~ A Harry Potter: Wizard’s Duel expansion ~

Lord Voldemort's campaign of hatred has cast a dark shadow over the Wizarding World. Innocent witches, wizards and muggles alike fall victim to his evil Death Eaters ~ even the worlds most renown and powerful magicians are scathed by their evil. Dark wizard and witches names' are spoken in fear as news of their acts of terror spread...

With the loss of Albus Dumbledore those who champion good seem without hope... But in the darkness there is light ~ many who will rise up and do what they must to prevent evil's strangle-hold on the world. There will be sacrifices, but the fate of the Wizarding World hangs in balance...

It is a time of legends. Will YOU become a legend of the Wizarding World?!

Welcome to Legends of the Wizarding World! The aim of this expansion is to provide Harry Potter: Wizard’s Duel players, new and old, with extra developmental potential for their characters by introducing new ranks, powers, additional customisation and more. These are all detailed in the sections below.

~

Wizard's Duel

Anyone wishing to participate in Harry Potter: Wizard's Duel and Legends of the Wizarding World should read the core rules in the Introduction & Discussion thread before playing. Those wishing to duel should follow the rules to create their character, posting in the Character Records thread. Duel's take place in the Dueling Club thread.

New Rank

Characters can now progress to a 6th rank! It takes 6 wins for an Auror / Death Eater to reach this rank: good characters attain the status of Grand Sorceror while evil charcaters become Dark Lords.

The rank table now looks like this:

  • Student - Possesses no additional spells or powers. 2 wins to next rank.
  • Practitioner - Player can choose 1 Spell. 3 wins to next rank.
  • Adept - Player can choose 1 extra Spell. 4 wins to next rank.
  • Magus - Player can choose 1 Mastery Power. 5 wins to next rank.
  • Auror / Death Eater - Player can choose 1 extra Mastery Power. 6 wins to next rank.
  • Grand Sorcerer / Dark Lord - Player can choose 1 extra Spell or Mastery Power.

Back to Hogwart's

Players can now change their character’s complete repertoire of spells and abilities and make new selections. But forsaking knowledge in this way comes at a price – the character must sacrifice 1 rank to do so and additionally loses the spell, mastery power or pet as donated by that rank. This represents the step back taken in coming to terms with their new spells and powers. The character must now progress through the normal number of duels to reach their original rank.

EXAMPLE: Ben wants to change his spells and sacrifices his rank of Death Eater to select entirely new spells. As he is now a Magus, he now has a choice of 2 spells and 1 mastery ability - where originally he had 2 spells and 2 mastery spells. This is the part of the sacrifice that must be made to change his repertoire.

In the interests of fair-play, players should always notify other players of their choice to do this.

Spell & Mastery Powers

NOTE: Asterisk (*) marked entries are amendments to established powers.

  • Episkey (Neutral Spell) - A healing spell, the wizard can use this to recover from minor wounds. Episkey can only be used once per duel but restores 1 health to the character. Blocks when used. Episkey can be defeated (or silenced) by Silencio.
  • Legilimens (Mastery Power)- The wizard can delve into the mind of their opponent, allowing them to see their memories and thoughts and gaining vital insight into their repertoire of spells and magical techniques. Armed with this knowledge, the wizard has a deadly advantage over their adversary.
Prior to the duel the player should post one of their opponent’s spells or powers. This power is cancelled and cannot be used by their opponent for the duration of the duel. Legilimens cannot be used once the duel has begun (so don’t forget!).
  • Silencio Maxima (Mastery Power) - So deft is this character’s use of the spell Silencio, they can use it against some of the most powerful spells known. The wizard’s Silencio spell defeats Stupefy and Crucio (it still reacts with other spells and powers in the same way).
  • Studious (Mastery Power)* – Studious characters can now choose their extra spell from any listed: good, neutral or evil.

~

Pets

Many wizards and witches have a familiar or animal companion with which they form an inseparable bond. A pet will often come to a character’s aid, defending their owner or aiding them in their fight against an opponent.

New to Harry Potter: Wizard’s Duel, a pet may be chosen in place of 1 spell or mastery power choice. A player should give their pet an appropriate name – no existing Harry Potter pets’ names can be used.

Pets provide several options. Every round a player add a pet command to the top of their Duel Sequence.

  • Pet Attack - Adds 1 damage to the first attack.
  • Pet Defend - Minuses 1 from the first damage received but wounds pet. A wounded pet can no longer be used in the current duel but recovers fully for the next.
  • Pet Counter - Distracts (cancels) opponents pet.

EXAMPLE: Jonas’s pet, Fluke, is a golden retriever. In his first round he sets he sends the following Duel Sequence:

Fluke Attack

HIGH

MID

LOW

Parry

Kick

Jona’s HIGH attack will inflict 2 damage if it hits as this is his first damaging attack.

Please feel free to ask any questions or give any feedback below. When I've got a moment, I'm hoping to an image or 2 to add extra flavour.

I hope you all enjoy playing Harry Potter: Wizard's Duel and Legends of the Wizarding World.

A. This looks fantastic. :cry_happy:

B. I don't fully understand Legilimens.

C. Can we call Master of Silence Silencios Silencio Maxima?

This looks pretty good. I've been meaning to join HP: Wizard's Duel for a while now, but am I allowed to?

B. I don't fully understand Legilimens.

The way I understand it, once you have found an opponent and an adjudicator, you state one move that your opponent possesses. For the duration of the game, they are not allowed to use this spell.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, pedro.

 That sounds good. Easier to distinguish who has the power and who doesn't.

Of course you are! Just make sure you've read the rules and some past duels and then sign up here. :classic:

OK, thank you! :sweet: I know it was a rather stupid question, but I noticed that it's been several months since anyone's posted in either the Character Records or the Introduction and Discussion, and I don't know what EB's policy on bumping threads is.

Sounds like an interest revitalization of the game. I might play more now, even if everyone is a vastly higher rank than I.

As longs as you have something worth while to post, then Eurobricks will never mind how long ago the last post was.

WOOOT WOOOT!! :cry_happy:

I've been hoping something like this would happen! Finally we can change our spells! And new spells?! Sweet!

Thanks for the Great update Pedro and ADHO!

  1. Legilimens works exactly like that.
  2. Silencio Maxima sounds great.
  3. Anyone can join in at any time! There are links in this thread that lead to the core rules, character records and dueling thread.

Thanks for the Great update Pedro and ADHO!

Thank pedro, not me. This is all his idea! :classic:

I'll add links to this page too.

Awesome, pedro! Now I have to decide whether I want to go down a rank and change my powers or just try to battle my way up one. Hmm.

  • 3 weeks later...

How did I miss this? This sounds great! It also explains the recent increase in activity in the Dueling Club. So, when LotWW start? Will there be a separate dueling thread for it? I think I'll stick to my current powers and keep striving for Grand Sorcerer! Do any successful duels we've had since we became Auror/Death Eater count toward our duel count for the next rank or will we have to win 6 new duels regardless? Since having a pet tiger would probably be cheating, I guess I'll go with a regular cat. Some very cool new powers too... Looking forward to this!

Legends is just an expansion of the current Wizards Duel wherein additional spells/abilities and pets are introduced. There is no separate duelling thread and I believe previous wins (before this was announced) count towards becoming Grand Sorcerer/Dark Lord. So those who continued to play (and win) even after attaining Auror/Death-Eater rank will reap the benefits earlier.

So keep on duelling guys! And keep an eye for more major announcements.

I see, thanks. So, if I want to exchange my Sectumsempra for a pet, I go back to being a magus, right? If so, do I loose only 5 wins or do I loose all wins that I have had since I became magus?

And don't worry, I intend to keep both of my eyes, unless someone pokes them out with a wand or basilisk fang.

Hmmm, that is indeed an interesting and valid question. I'm not so sure about this, and pedro can confirm if this is correct or not, but giving up a mastery ability will revert you back at the starting point of the previous rank. It might be a bit unfair especially if you rightfully earned your additional wins, but I guess that is the drawback one has to take to replace a current mastery ability.

Consider your wins as currency and you'll be on the right track. You 'spent' a total of 14 wins to get to your current rank and have won 1 more duel since then for a total of 15. If you decide to sacrifice a rank and drop to Magus you cannot get those 5 wins back as you already spent them to reach Auror. You will however be 1 win closer to regaining the Auror rank as you never spent that extra win.

Does that make sense?

As an alternative, you could always duel your way to Grand Sorceror to receive your pet!

Just to add some clarity on rank sacrifice - the character loses the spell or mastery ability as donated by that rank.

Hope that helps. I'll update the 1st post.
