Syn Posted July 16, 2011 Posted July 16, 2011 any updates? its amazing so see this from what you started with!
Zilcho Posted July 16, 2011 Posted July 16, 2011 This is simply amazing! It is so big but at the same time it is very detailed! You must have spent many days on this! I think it would be awesome if, when you finished it you had a massive battle across the whole area.
AwesomeStar Posted July 16, 2011 Posted July 16, 2011 I've been following this beauty since it's beginning but never commented - I've been too in-awe and inspired to even form a straight sentence about it! I figured it was about time I let you know, though, that your work on this is some of the most natural, authentic landscaping I've ever seen. You make great use of basic bricks coupled with more specialised elements and your colour choice is lovely. Everything, from the innovative tree designs to the spectacular minifig placement is spot-on. I tip my quiff to you, good sir (though that isn't actually possible... ). Your work on this has inspired me to attempt, for the first time in my life, a realistic project which makes use of "chapters" and is actually dependent on me purchasing bulk supplies of Lego, rather than my previous MOCs and mash-ups which have simply been half-heartedly constructed. I'm almost finished on the first chapter! You are an absolute credit to the community and a true inspiration, maydayartist, and I simply can't wait to see this completed, despite each update being like Christmas Day! -A.S.
maydayartist Posted July 18, 2011 Author Posted July 18, 2011 Everytime I read all this phenomenal feedback my cheeks blush. Hey it´s only a big amount of plastic OF COURSE NOT! This is a lot of love in it :) enough bla bla Yeah I have an update for you. My first building for this landscape. This is the first version of the watermill, but not for a miller. It will be a blacksmith with a big hammer driven by the water wheel. The missing parts on it (the wheel, an anvil and so on) will be done in the next days. Maybe as an update, maybe not I hope that my amount of work in business will be less in the next weeks (month) so I can do more on the next houses and the castle of course. the hole in the wall is for the wheel. But it is also possible that it will be located a few bricks from there, we will see. have a nice evening Phil
Brickdoctor Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 The SNOTed plates and tiles on the edges of the roof are what really make this building stand out.
Follows Closely Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 What is holding the tiles on the dormers? There can't be much...
maydayartist Posted July 18, 2011 Author Posted July 18, 2011 What is holding the tiles on the dormers? There can't be much... After a long time of testing different ways the simplest wins :) It´s only a 1 x 2 plate with arm and a 1 x 1 plate with clip clamped behind. Phil
de Gothia Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 so many details you manage to put in every single thing you do! i´m so impressed by it and the blacksmith is so perfect! love the dormers and the stair leading up to the house! de Gothia
Trent Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 Very clever technique; thanks for sharing it. The building as a whole is excellent.

icy brick Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 (edited) Let´s "just" say that the whole thing is just a one big phenomenom! Edited July 18, 2011 by icy brick
supersympa Posted July 19, 2011 Posted July 19, 2011 Simply fantastic! I have daily updates on that topic, and everytime i receive an email about it, i am so happy to visit this! well done!
maydayartist Posted July 21, 2011 Author Posted July 21, 2011 One short view on my clock says 'It´s ghost hour (in germany)!' *spooky* This is the right time to present you the blacksmith by night (with light). The forge outside the house has a light to glow up the coal too. It looks very heavy enlighted on the photo but that´s not. Btw, the water wheel and the big hammer inside are ready too and they work perfect, but this will be shown later. good night everyone Phil
Brickdoctor Posted July 21, 2011 Posted July 21, 2011 Very nice. Lights and motors always take MOCs to new heights. The inside of the building looks quite realistically lit. These are strings of christmas lights, right? Not PF/LEGO lights?

Hoboman Posted July 21, 2011 Posted July 21, 2011 Each time I come back to this thread I am impressed and I learn. Thanks for showing how you did the trim. The idea is simple and elegant. Oh and it looks wonderful too.
Erynion Posted July 24, 2011 Posted July 24, 2011 The tent is nice. And that pine tree is gorgeous ! I love the top Now, just for all of us, please make sure you create a complete building instruction of the whole landscape once you're done ! "Oh God, the page 19807 shows that I made a mistake at page 5609, I have to remove all those 20.567 bricks and restart from there" I laughed! There is a forestman shooting a deer from behind a tree... that is so awesome... The trees are absolutely stunning. I can't tell you how much I wish I had the skill to build trees that look so realistic (nevermind the rocks, water, tents, and everything else of course). As for the comments about LEGO and art, I would definitely say that LEGO is a medium of art, like painting or sculpture or w/e...
Vlad Posted July 24, 2011 Posted July 24, 2011 Five stars man... continues the good work! Hug from Portugal
Bram Posted July 24, 2011 Posted July 24, 2011 Looking extremely good. I'm amazed of the things you manage to put together. Keep it up! Can't wait for another update.
Muf-Muf Posted July 24, 2011 Posted July 24, 2011 After a good two hours of reading and admiring all the lovely sceneries, details, buildings and everything, I came to the end of this thread. :( I really, really hope to read and see more of this, it's absolutely awesome! :D
Captain Blackmoor Posted July 25, 2011 Posted July 25, 2011 The project is getting better and better everytime I peek in this great topic. That building is just awesome! I can't wait for more pictures, keep us posted!
maydayartist Posted July 26, 2011 Author Posted July 26, 2011 ... I can't wait for more pictures, keep us posted! First I have already to say thank you for all of your superb feedback, that´s my motivation for bricking on The Blacksmith is ready (outside) and in addition the little well next to the blacksmith too. Last details and minifigs will be add when chapter 5 (the village) is completely done. On one end the new water wheel is connected and drives a big hammer inside the building. The water inflow will be constructed later. It was my plan to add a wooden structure on the other end of the house for all the blacksmith things. An anvil, the forge, the water place and a grindstone. Unfortunately all of this is a little bit hide under the roof but that´s a little tribut for the realistic scene. Would you work under free sky if it´s rain? The first version from the roof wasn´t accepted by a workmate of mine, so the second version was done and hey, he was right. The new one looks very much better. the mechanism of the wheel and the hammer (a little bit easy, I know. Sorry for that ) The next building on my list is the tavern, but it can take a lot of time to give you new updates. Next week is another assembly on my work for 5 days. No bricking at that time We will see. have a nice evening Phil
Skipper Posted July 26, 2011 Posted July 26, 2011 Amazing! It looks even better in daylight, and it fits into the scenery very well. I like the idea of a dam. Cheers
mcbbvb Posted July 26, 2011 Posted July 26, 2011 I just found about this thread and I'm stunned. I's not only a big landscape but the detail you put in every single aspect of the landscape is stunning. It's..... I really don't know what to say. It's not just beautiful or something like that. As soon as I know a word to describe this I will. But for now I will just enjoy your posts.
streifen Posted July 27, 2011 Posted July 27, 2011 i have only browsed through some random pages and the things i have seen are really amazing!! not is the MOC huge (based on the baseplates on Page 1), it is also "thick" (based on the landscape in the last pic)! have you got an overall view of the whole MOC? that will be real
