Khorne Posted August 23, 2011 Posted August 23, 2011 (edited) This sounds interesting, but haven´t take a picture, have you? But this is like all others of my creations, they are all out of my head and not a replica of a real model. No, that's not what I meant . I know it's not a real building. What I was trying to say was, that it really, really looks like a real building (but it's not a real building). The reason why I said it looks like a real building is because the style you built it in really resembles the actual medieval building style of southern Germany . I hope I explained myself better this time . *EDIT* The new update looks great, as always ! The chimney is well-built and covers the "gap" at the back really well! Can't wait to see this building placed in your landscape . Edited August 23, 2011 by Khorne

And here are the last photos of the tavern. have a nice day Phil
Khorne Posted August 24, 2011 Posted August 24, 2011 I feel like I'm spamming the topic with this post, but really, all I can say is: ! It looks awesome!
MstrOfPppts Posted August 24, 2011 Posted August 24, 2011 Amazing! I Really love how the angled part fits into the dio not using too many flat tiles (or just hiding them well) so that the landscape has a cool study overall look.
The Blue Brick Posted August 24, 2011 Posted August 24, 2011 Amazing! I love all your techniques that you incorporated into your whole layout. This thing is a masterpiece. I think it might have to go to a museum of art.
Matn Posted August 24, 2011 Posted August 24, 2011 Amazingly beautiful! (and it's not even finished). In the beginning of your layout I was impressed by the size of it, but it seems you'll also impress us with the amount of details you are putting in it. The landscaping is just perfect and diverse, realistic for what can be done with LEGO. The houses are beautiful, especially the last one. Your layout inspires me to continue my own Hogsmeade project (a sort of medieval village set in the world of Harry Potter), it gives me a boost to build. The way you started with divided baseplates and then building up the landscape, is much nicer than just using baseplates like I did, thanks for the idea. I also have the urge to build my houses in a similar style like yours, but it would just be too big to built a multiple of them in that scale. Good luck and thanks for the building ideas.
kabel Posted August 25, 2011 Posted August 25, 2011 This summer I was in the south of Germany on holiday, and looking at your tavern I recognise the style immediately. I could swear I've seen it somewhere in a little medieval Bavarian town. Magnificent MOC! well, fortunately Germany doesn't only consist of Bavaria ... as for the moc, this is so awesome it really inspires me to push forward with my own medieaval project, thus consequently alienating myself from my wife
Ogre Posted September 3, 2011 Posted September 3, 2011 I have no ability to convey just how great this project looks. It's just fantastic. I really love how the tavern looks now that you changed the height. Simply STUNNING.
tbroyd Posted September 4, 2011 Posted September 4, 2011 Yet again brilliant What I especially like is that the building is not square, and it's not square on the landscape.
maydayartist Posted September 4, 2011 Author Posted September 4, 2011 Here we go again. I have done my next building in only three days. And I can't wait to present it to you. Last details likt the backside door and the chimney will be done later. And unfotunately one last brown arch is missing so I have to use a black one. It is a store for any type of wares. I think it will be finally vegetables and fruits. This building has 2 sale windows on the frontside to present the sales. The shutters and the boards can be closed and the door can be opened. the backside and the closed shutters and boards Next are details on this one and ... hm .. we will see. I can't say it in this moment. I think the place will pretend the type of building. Phil
The Blue Brick Posted September 4, 2011 Posted September 4, 2011 If only I was as good as you. This is just awesome. You put so much detail into everything that you make myself ashamed of my mocs.
supersympa Posted September 5, 2011 Posted September 5, 2011 Another stunning update! I am so happy everytime i get an email about update of the project ;) Even my colleagues at work (who are not usually any lego fan) told me, keep us posted with the updates! seriously, this is just fantastic!!! Thank you!
Rhynix Posted September 5, 2011 Posted September 5, 2011 Tjeez!!! fantastic build! This project will cost a fortune btw! Are they all lego? Or did you use cheaper parts too?

Last details likt the backside door and the chimney will be done later. And unfotunately one last brown arch is missing so I have to use a black one. It is a store for any type of wares. I think it will be finally vegetables and fruits. Just my opinion but...is too fancy a building for a fruit and veggie vendor. Besides, most of those types of sales were done in open-air markets. Your building (to me) looks more like something a fairly well-off merchant would have, so I'd be thinking more like a cooper, or rug merchant, furniture maker, or some such thing. Aside from that though, it's a nice-looking piece. Keep up the good work!
K-Nut Posted September 5, 2011 Posted September 5, 2011 Is that the QAR I see in the background? Beautiful work! I've been watching this since the beginning as a lurker. I love how you started and how many great techniques you fit in. I want more! Great work.
Angeli Posted September 5, 2011 Posted September 5, 2011 Nice, my friend I am thinking "sooner or later he will stay without bricks and he ill have to improvise something simpler", but it will never happen, will it? :)
Sirens-of-Titan Posted September 5, 2011 Posted September 5, 2011 Once again a very creative and original building! I am very curious to see this whole build once it's done. I can only imagine how much you have to sink into it as resources! This will be the MOC to top all MOC"s!
LandShark Posted September 5, 2011 Posted September 5, 2011 Wow! Just... wow! This is the kind of thing I've always wanted to do, but have never had enough bricks. And when this is finally finished, it will possibly be the greatest thing ever. Looking forward to the next update.
maydayartist Posted September 5, 2011 Author Posted September 5, 2011 Tjeez!!! fantastic build! This project will cost a fortune btw! Are they all lego? Or did you use cheaper parts too? Thank you, and yes that is all normal Lego. No other brands and no Duplo or something like that. Thanks man. Hm, you are right in one way. Only vegs where a little bit 'cheap' for suge a building. but that will be the problem. The salewindows are not a good solution for such a valuable thing like gems. Rug is a very good idea. This come into my mind by starting the third house, but the windows doesn´t completely fit to this type of ware. Weapons can be another option. this can be the store from the blacksmith. If you have another idea in this way, give it to me Is that the QAR I see in the background? Beautiful work! I've been watching this since the beginning as a lurker. I love how you started and how many great techniques you fit in. I want more! Great work. This is nice to hear and I will continue my work ;) Yes it is the QAR, she has wonderful parts and 104 dark grey 1x1 round plates :) but it wasn't my plan to buy it in the near future. The only problem was that I have get the chance to buy it for a phenomenal price, so I can't resist Nice, my friend I am thinking "sooner or later he will stay without bricks and he ill have to improvise something simpler", but it will never happen, will it? :) Thank you my dark elves friend. I hope not ;) As you can see in the last building, the shutters and the big brown arches are pieces from new sets or new for me sets. For example, I could get the complete 09 pirates wave for a good condition last week, and the arches are perfect for the woodwork on this roof. We will see how many things are still able to build. My biggest pleasure for now is, that my amount of new and old light gray, for the castle, is nearly untouched. I'm curious to see what is possible with this. Unluckily my amount of plants and leaves is nearby 0. Thank all for your comments. Phil
Abu Dun Posted September 6, 2011 Posted September 6, 2011 Once again a great addition to the landscape, although I agree that it's a bit unfitting for selling vegetables. Maybe it's the warehouse of that trader who sells all those expensive robes to the nobles in the castle or the storehouse of the village. This would also fit to the slightly rugged style of it, as it appears to be a tad bit battered for being owned by a fairly rich merchant, especially with the differently coloured slopes on the roof and that slightly shifted tile in the second picture. I really like that, btw., as it adds a used style to the house. As does the one black arc, which one may interpret as remains of something close having burned and the flames having caught onto this building before the villagers could extinguish the fire. Either way, I'm eagerly awaiting what your finishing touches upon this building will look like and what your next building will be.
Captain Blackmoor Posted September 7, 2011 Posted September 7, 2011 What an original and excellent building again! I only have one tiny nitpick; the 1x2 tiles above the windows and door on the lower floor, it doesn't really look medieval as it is architecture seen in the 19th century. The rest of the building is just gorgeous and it looks so cool! Especially the woodwork on the front. Keep it up!
Erynion Posted September 8, 2011 Posted September 8, 2011 I have one question though, isn't the scale a little big? It certainly adds to the impressive factor but it looks almost larger than Fabuland scale. But I'm just quibbling here, it's great, great work. You found something to quibble about. For some reason, I'm sort of impressed by that. 110% praise starts to... I dunno... lose its luster after a while, if you know what I mean? I kind of agree about the massiveness. The buildings are taller than some of the castles I've built - not that that's saying anything since I haven't built many impressive castles, but still - the roofs of the buildings just seem very big. Maybe they're accurate to medieval building styles, but to me they seem a little top-heavy. Still a great MOC though, and I want one.
maydayartist Posted September 9, 2011 Author Posted September 9, 2011 (edited) Here is the final version of my merchant house. I changed the construction to a modular structure, but the design is unchanged. Little details like the chimney and the planed now installed. have a nice evening Phil Edited September 9, 2011 by maydayartist
Ogre Posted September 9, 2011 Posted September 9, 2011 IMO, the stonework on the rear of the building is better than that of the front. For some reason, the front feels 'too busy'. Other than that, it looks mighty sweet.
