snefroe Posted June 25, 2006 Posted June 25, 2006 here's a find on Ebay.com; it's a promotional set for an American company. Nothing spectacular, thou, i just tought it 'd be nice to show the community... i've never seen it before, nor do i see a set number, which is weird 60 dollars already but it'll most likely be going up in the next 30 minutes... Governor Mister Phes Posted June 25, 2006 Governor Posted June 25, 2006 How old is this set? The packaging looks very alien to LEGO. Quote
snefroe Posted June 25, 2006 Author Posted June 25, 2006 How old is this set? The packaging looks very alien to LEGO. yep, you're right! based on the wheel parts i'd say somewhere between late 80's 'till early 90's or so? Quote
Starwars4J Posted June 25, 2006 Posted June 25, 2006 I can't say for sure, but it looks too "homebrewed" to be a real promo set. I'd wager this is a fake (the parts may be genuine LEGO, but that's all) Quote
gylman Posted June 25, 2006 Posted June 25, 2006 Agree that this looks like a phoney. I will put in a call to my "expert". Will update. Quote
Jipay Posted June 26, 2006 Posted June 26, 2006 Just for the record, some people are living by creating promotional lego sets for companies that aren't made by Lego ! I know of one french guy who is doing this with trucks. He is actually selling them in some similar boxes. So it could well be an american version of the same job ! Quote
gylman Posted June 26, 2006 Posted June 26, 2006 Word from my Promo expert is that this is almost certainly not real. Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted June 26, 2006 Governor Posted June 26, 2006 Word from my Promo expert is that this is almost certainly not real. How did this promo expert come to be a promo expert? Quote
natelite Posted June 26, 2006 Posted June 26, 2006 wow, sometimes people are so creative that it scares me. if someone uses dark green, green, tan, dark tan parts and make a "promotional" tank, i'm sure the "set" will sell for like 10-20x the cost of printing the custom box and buying the parts from bricklink. of course the return per effort for a simple white van and slapping on some carrier stickers is a lot higher than selling a customized tank. will someone make a pizza parlor and start selling promotional papa john's (or dominos or pizza hut) sets? gylman Posted June 26, 2006 Posted June 26, 2006 Word from my Promo expert is that this is almost certainly not real. How did this promo expert come to be a promo expert? He has an awesome collection of his own, and has been collecting them for many years. No official "promo expert" certification, I'm afraid, but he's never let me wrong, and seem to know a lot of people who collect rare Lego thingamabobs and whoozits. Quote

Lego didn't produce cars 6 studs wide untill last year, so i guess we would have known about this promo set if it were a real promo Quote
