Captain Roger Posted June 26, 2006 Posted June 26, 2006 Lego Space is my 2nd favourite Lego Theme(Mi 1st favourite is Pirates, you know) and i see in that forum there aren't discussion about Blacktron, Space Police, exploriens, etc... How about the old lego space? Let's talk about it Well, i think the first Lego space sets(Classic, futuron, blacktron 1 and 2,M-Tron, space police 1) looked terrible, and the reasons are I hate the classic smile of old lego minifigs, that smile looks really silly...but specially in Lego Space guys...why? In space sound doesn't exist because there aren't air...and without air sound can't exist in space...that's science. In any case...Blacktron 1's dessign is the coolest, in my opinion. Space Police 2 and exploriens are my favourite because they had a microphone near her mouth, and thats an advantage to the older space minifigs that couldn't communicate with the other astronauts. Ice Planet 2002 were good...they haven't wear microphone but i think if there are ice in their planet...it could exist air in their planet, but then...How about their air bottles? that's a mistake About Spyrius they were cool, they havent microphone but that minifings were supposed to be androids and they probably had a microphone incorporated. UFOS were cool but insectoids not. That's about the minifigs...now about the buildings and space ships: Blacktron's spatial bases were good, and some of his ships too...i prefer Blacktron 1's bases to the Blacktron 2 one. M-Tron ships are really ugly...Red is my favourite colour but red space ships are really ugly...and bizarre. Ah, other thing about M-tron...i have never understood his function in space...i'll explain it: blacktron-space pirates Space police-the name shows their function Exploriens-same as Space police, the name shows their function Spyrius-Evil space spies M-Tron- i totally ignore it. Space police ships were good but i don't understand the function of Solar Snooper...Galactic Mediator may be my favourite space set. Exploriens are the best ships but Explorien Starship is terriblement huge, and this is a problem when you are playing with it. Spyrius are original and great...the Robo-Guardian is a really good set...and original...a robot that can turn into a little ship...with a hidden ship too and a prison. The Saucer Centurion is good too because you can take things with the pliers and you can trought a little car. Ufo ships are good but not really original...i missed attack functions...and about Insectoids..their ships are really original but repetitive. What do you think about that? Quote
snefroe Posted June 26, 2006 Posted June 26, 2006 i hope to have some more discussions on these themes soon, but why not start right now, eh? ;-) i'd say in terms of minifigs, i lik the futuron the most. i never tried to replace the heads with newer ones, but the torso looks great, and i've got some nice memories of these figs :-$ Blacktron 1 was great also... i think it mostly went wrong with insectoid , unitron, roboforce, ufo and spyrius. they were all pretty bad. as if lego didn't want to leave one mm Quote
natelite Posted June 26, 2006 Posted June 26, 2006 to be honest, i'm quite glad i was in my dark ages then. the spacecraft were too colorful, the figures were either too colorful or covered in too many prints like you said. i think exoforce is in the right step by staying with one color code or at most two (both machine and minifigs) and with only torso prints. Jipay Posted June 27, 2006 Posted June 27, 2006 Well you complain about M torn being nothing, but they were standard merchants who were regulary attacked by the blacktron. If some people don't get it... Now I'm not wandering anymore why lego will never release any civilian again... Quote
snefroe Posted June 27, 2006 Posted June 27, 2006 i don't think it sucked because of a civilian space theme, but simply because the sets were not good at all. Look at the number of space freighters these days... Quote
Norro Posted June 27, 2006 Posted June 27, 2006 While space is well down my fav theme list... I do llike some of the lines, especially Ice Planet and M-Tron. I just got the Mega Core Magnetizer and it is one of the best things Lego ever made (and as a Castle fan it hurts me to say that!) Blacktron 2 was also nice, I don't have any of the older stuff so I can't comment. But then space took a nose dive (like just about everything else) with exploriens, UFO, insectoids, etc... My pet theory is that the decent designers went to work on the new (and brilliant) aquazone theme... God Bless, Nathan Oh and BTW the reason there is not more space discussion here is that (like everything else) it has its own sites..and EB is more general. Quote
Asuka Posted June 29, 2006 Posted June 29, 2006 I remember still well the day my parents gave me my first Lego preclassic space set. It was 367 and i loved it. Looking at this you can imagine how much impressed i was by the famous and streamlined 918. It was indeed the beginning of a great adventure. Influenced by star trek (the originals) i wished myself to explore the universe and i was starting to create some large starships and extraterrestrial bases. Maybe it was this affection which made me lose contact with the later appeared sets.... I didn Quote
snefroe Posted June 29, 2006 Posted June 29, 2006 Unfortunatly only a small and old moc remained from this time.... It is based on the 1978 comic yoko tsuno: les 3 soleils de vinea by Roger Leloup. Then i was growing up and other things became more important, and so i left my Lego on the attic. But the Lego star wars and life on mars sets let me overcome my dark age.... and once again i began to sail those dephts of space.... yeah... i also tried to build those space ships from the people of Vinea. I'm still hoping to build several of them when lego produces the parts to do it... Quote
Captain Roger Posted June 30, 2006 Author Posted June 30, 2006 I thought Magnetron was Blacktron II's ally. Magnetron? Sorry man i think magnetron doesn't exist in Lego space...can you explain what is magnetron? ah, thanks to all to your replies, is nice to see people posting about the space theme Quote

I am aware that several countries used to refer to blacktron 1 as "Black Star" and the Canadians refered to Futuron as "Futureworld", so it's not impossible to have one country talking about Magnetron... Clone comander Nodra 999 Posted July 4, 2006 Posted July 4, 2006 Instead of talking about how great the old sets were i think we should start bouncing around ideas for new space themes. Maybee something like armagedon or deep impact. There could be a main shuttle and some sweet drilling macines. Or maybee we could ask for a mission to mars theme. Instead of being like life on mars with those dumb aliens it could be based on the real missions to mars or even the proposed manned mission to mars. Or maybee lego will answere are prayers and just make a new space with sets and themes based on the old space. They could redisign all the old sets with new parts and styles. For instansce the old spyrius robots could be made into new exoforce robots. And instead of the old jaged window pieces the tlc could use the new smooth pieces. Quote
Darth_Ewok Posted July 4, 2006 Posted July 4, 2006 Yay! My FAVORITE themes! *sweet* The space themes were great! I don't like the original classic space so much but blacktron 1 and 2 are my favorites. I am very sad that lego ran out of ideas for space. Ice planet was creative and gave us some good minifigs and a few good sets. The alien theme was awesome (I love the flying saucers *wub* ) Clone Commander Nodra 999 has a good point. If I could create a new space theme it would have an "old space" feel to it but with new pieces, minfigs, and sets that were more complex than the old ones. It would involve the crew of a starship caught up in an interstellar war between two nations (one good and one evil.) They would join with the good guys to help beat the bad guys in the quest for some important power crystals (or something like that.) The sets would mix space ships with a few ground vehicles and a big base/battle scene playset, and the heroes ship of course... I wish :-/ Quote

Quote
Captain Roger Posted July 4, 2006 Author Posted July 4, 2006 Darth Ewok has good preferences ;-) I think the new space sets should be like Blacktron 1 but with a better head...and planet 2002 guys without air bottles...about the minifigs. About the sets...I think they should release an improved version of Explorien Starship...this is a huge space ship but more playable. And i Think Lego should release new version of this sets...that were great...in my opinion the best space sets Spyrius Robo-Guardian Blacktron 1 Message Intercept Base Space Police 2 Galactic Mediator Ice Planet 2002 Ice Station Odyssey Ice Planet 2002 Deep Freeze Defender And I think LEgo shoul release Robo Force and Unitron in Europe, because they were released only in USA. Hey, he asked what I wanted Lego's next space theme to be! :-D Although what I want and what Lego will do are two very different things X-D It depends on Lego DOING a space theme. The way they're going, it doesn't look like they will. Anyway, the theme would revolve around these two warring factions that would be different colors and all that stuff but would allow for some nice large sets... Small ground vehicle (1 for bad guys and one for good) with a soldier or two Medium spacecraft (good) Large spacecraft (bad) Medium walker (good) with a small enemy turret thing Heroes ship (good) a good freighter ship for out heroes Base battle (bad) one big base, an evil vehicle and some good guys attacking it Wave 2 would be similar Small space vehicle (1 for bad guys and one for good) with a soldier or two base playset (Medium structure with some soldiers and a small walker) Large tank (bad) medium spacecraft (bad) medium transport shuttle (good) ground battle (big set) a few ground vehicles for each side with some structure in the middle The minifigs would have different colors for the two armies and would NOT be generic smiley faces. Individual characters (heroes and villans) would be more unique (obviously.) The heroes would each have a specialty (like dino attack or alpha team) and be part of a team. and minifig packs will be fine ;-) Quote
Clone comander Nodra 999 Posted July 5, 2006 Posted July 5, 2006 No way im not looking for a theme with only hero figs. I d rather they all be the same wich is better for building armies Quote
