Hi all. I have a several lego train sets that really only comes out at Christmas time. I was rather lazy in cleaning it up this year, which eventually ended up leading me to this forum. Not being overly creative, I was wondering if one of you folks might have some ideas as to where I should put track down for my own layout. Here are the track pieces I have to work with.

11 – 4520 (88 total curves)

4 – 4515 (32 straight) + 6 additional straights from random starter kits (38 total)

2 – 4519 (cross over)

2 – 4531 (including the two curves that came in the box)

1 – 5439

1 – 4555

I have a couple other sets, but those are all of the sets that include 9v track. The stations I have are 4554, 4556, and 4557, and the trains I have are 4563 and 4561. So the question is, if you were limited to the pieces above, how can I design my layout? Physical space really is not an issue. Feel free to use Matthew Bates’ track designer and share the file here!!!! I’d really like to know what people come up with.

Do it on your spare spots, best a table in a unused or small room if not somewhere open. The layout should be completely your design or where is the joy!

Can you please show your designs from the track designer?

Well, If you plan to put the layout around a tree (or if you want to sit in the middle of it)... I'll give it a go

I suggest you place the stations (with some mods) next to each other, with tracks on both sides (place the 4557 at the end for the 4563).

Then bring the tracks together with the 4531, and put a 4519 on either side. With the remaining tracks you can create a loop from each cross section to the other leacing you with a somewhat "upside-down mickey-mouse" figure.

I do not have any program for this, so I made a sketch below: ()

(Connect C with C, U with U and X with X)

Be creative and put some curved tracks between 4519 and 4531!
