So I have spent the majority of my day making a spread sheet of the pieces I need for a small build of some mini sets I want to make after making them in LDD.

I have been going thru Bricklink and getting average prices of the pieces I need, so I can see what the total cost in parts will be.

However Im noticing that I will have to buy from probably 20+ different vendors. Is this usually the case?

Also for a long list of parts is there a faster way to upload a spreadsheet and have the parts auto buy haha?

rather than going line by line and ordering the individual types of pieces? There must be a faster way.

Thanks

First you need to make a 'Wanted List' in BrickLink that contains all the parts (in the correct quantities) that you will need. I have always done this manually by using superkalles LDD Manager Program, but perhaps the wantedbricks program will do this automatically for you (although I have never used it).

Once you have all the bricks in your 'Wanted List' you need to select 'By Shop' in the BrickLink 'Wanted' tab, this will put the shop that has the most lots at the top of the list (although of course they may not be the cheapest). It is worth browsing the first five or so shops to get the best value. Your main aim now is to get the majority of your 'Wanted List' crossed off. It is very unlikely you will manage to get all your items in one shop (especially if you need specialty/ rare elements), and you have to balance postage charges also (sometimes it is worth paying more per element for a specific item if it saves you having to place another order in a different shop). BrickLink does not automatically delete items from your list once you have bought them, so you need to edit the list after your purchases.

It will definitely consume both your Time and your Money though!

Ok, so I had to change the title. I just can't stand "legos".

I think we all have to live with how awkward, vexing and downright unfriendly to use Bricklink is, there is no decent alternative out there. I think making a wanted list is the easiest way, then finding a few stores with the best prices and seeing what they have in total of your list.

Thanks to both of you. I havent spent that much time with bricklink save to use it as merely a research aid. I did not know about the wanted list. That helps a bunch!!!

Sure, Bricklink looks ugly and takes time to get used to but I think it works very well and I love using it.

It's basis is simple so sometimes you do have to put in a bit of work to get what you want out of it. The upside to a simple website, I assume, is that it requires less maintenance, less cost and it's free from adverts!

Yeah there is a bit of a learning curve. I managed to finally upload a mass list by generating a XML file. I thought I had to make an old excel file haha.

I placed and order with a store for some pieces for my MOC tumbler and is there a way to check off the parts I bought from my wanted list? Other than going through my order and manually deleting each item from my want list? Is there an auto function?

That's one reason why I am willing to pay the premium for complete sets when I want them.

I know it's not your exact situation, my only suggestion is pick a brick, if your lucky you can usually get some good buys.

With LDD I have heard of n option to submit a design to LEGO and they will part it out for you.

How does this usually cost out compared to Briklink?

Thx

Andy
