Dr Rod Posted July 12, 2011 Posted July 12, 2011 Great find! I'm posting the picture for reference. 2276 pieces for $199.99 regular price, pre-release end August -- expensive but it looks like there's a boatload of dark red in there! That looks very nice, dark red is a great colour for Architecture. Oleg Quote
fred67 Posted July 12, 2011 Posted July 12, 2011 Uuuhhggg... it's beautiful, and the price/piece is the best in the architecture line so far - better than a lot of other sets, but I need to start thinking about stopping buying this line if they start topping $200... I mean, that's more on the order of an Eiffel Tower or London Bridge than an architecture set. Quote
tafkatb Posted July 12, 2011 Posted July 12, 2011 Oh my gosh, that's gorgeous! I'd been hoping for this one to come out, and I'm really impressed with the detail, all the dark red, and price per piece (especially for a FLW-licensed Architecture set). Time to start saving up... Quote
Darkdragon Posted July 12, 2011 Posted July 12, 2011 I had no previous interest in the architecture sets, but this one is beautiful! That is exactly what i was going to type (honestly). Wow there goes another $200, i should get busy building some of the sets i've already bought. Quote
the enigma that is badger Posted July 12, 2011 Posted July 12, 2011 Not too bad! I live about three blocks away from the Robie house, and it's easily one of my favorite Wright designs. Still, it should be surrounded snappily-dressed microfigs praising Milton Friedman to represent Booth School of Business students for spot-on accuracy ;) Quote
Mirandir Posted July 12, 2011 Posted July 12, 2011 Yeah that's a genuine Lego Architecture set. The setnumber is 21010. BTW don't know if this is known already but there's also a Brandenburg Tor coming out with setnumber 21011... Quote
tafkatb Posted July 12, 2011 Posted July 12, 2011 BTW don't know if this is known already but there's also a Brandenburg Tor coming out with setnumber 21011... Are you able to divulge your source for this? Quote
Mirandir Posted July 12, 2011 Posted July 12, 2011 Are you able to divulge your source for this? Not more than it's from whitin Lego. Brandenburger Tor has 362 pieces and a lot of sand green cheese wedges. Quote
tafkatb Posted July 12, 2011 Posted July 12, 2011 a lot of sand green cheese wedges. *drools* So at 362 pieces, I'm guessing size and price would be comparable to the Rockefeller Center or Guggenheim? Quote
Rufus Posted July 12, 2011 Posted July 12, 2011 Updated page 1! with a better picture Thanks grohl for saving me a job! Quote
Churchill Posted July 12, 2011 Posted July 12, 2011 Brandenburg Tor! Now that's an architecture set I can get excited about. The most recent ones just weren't very inspiring, in my opinion. I can't wait to see how this is designed. Quote
prateek Posted July 12, 2011 Posted July 12, 2011 Looking at the "high res" pic on the first post, I see that most of the 2000 or so pieces is going to be 1x2 dark red tiles. And how did they make that 3-pane window on the top floor? Quote

And how did they make that 3-pane window on the top floor? Looks like a 4-wide space, so it could possibly be done with 1x1 plates in SNOT: One red, two clears, one red, two clears, one red, two clears, one red. It could turn out to be something simpler, though. Quote

tafkatb Posted July 13, 2011 Posted July 13, 2011 I'm totally fine with the bulk of the piece count being 1x2 dark red plates; it captures the brickwork of the real thing quite nicely. Kind of like all the white tiles in the Farnsworth House - that sort of detailing is essential to the spirit of the actual design. I do hope that the Dark Stone Grey plates of the base are just a preliminary render and that the final product will have Earth Green though. Quote
Mirandir Posted July 13, 2011 Posted July 13, 2011 It would be great if it looked like this one: Brandenburger Tor by Brickshelf user: sheep The design is quite similar but actually a bit simpler. The color scheme is as follows: ground and statues on the roof is light bley, roof is sand green and all the rest is in tan. Quote
Rob Klingberg Posted July 13, 2011 Posted July 13, 2011 Hmm I think I will definitely need to add this set to my list of coveted items! I used to work in this house (the University of Chicago had alumni offices in the house for a time in the 1990s, if you can believe it), so I've spent quite a bit of time inside. Would love to have the model as a reminder! Quote

tafkatb Posted July 13, 2011 Posted July 13, 2011 I wonder if it will be available in the U.S. market? Undoubtedly. Adam Reed Tucker, the designer of the Architecture sets, is based in Chicago and has his own various distribution channels as well as those provided by TLG. Though admittedly, it probably won't sell nearly as well in the U.S. as in Germany (unless maybe they put a picture of John F. Kennedy visiting the gate on the back of the box). Quote

ie10421 Posted July 14, 2011 Posted July 14, 2011 (edited) Thanks guys! I've put a better pic on the Frontpage. It's hard to tell from the picture, but behind the chimney is a new part, a 33 degree double concave slope. There should be 2 in the set, in dark red. Also note that the base is 3 plates thick. This is to provide for the sunk-in area in the front that leads to the lower level. Edited July 14, 2011 by ie10421 Quote

I really hope that part will eventually show up in other colors and in more affordable sets, because it's perfect for Prairie style roofs. Would this be the first entirely new part to make its debut in an Architecture set? Quote
SilentMode Posted July 14, 2011 Posted July 14, 2011 Parts or not, that building looks nice still. It might be worth putting my VIP points towards this! Quote
