legolijntje Posted March 30, 2011 Posted March 30, 2011 Hello, I'm making a building instruction, so I want parts lists for each step. But how do I get them? EDIT: I use sr3d builder Quote
DLuders Posted March 30, 2011 Posted March 30, 2011 If you are using LDD 4.0, I would make an overall parts list for your .lxf file by using LDD Manager. Then, when you look at each step of your model in LDD's "Building Guide Mode", you will recognize the Bricklink Part Number and color of each part you see. Quote

I forget to say I'm using sr3d builder Quote
Superkalle Posted March 30, 2011 Posted March 30, 2011 I added a SR3D to your topic title - should make it a bit more clear. Quote
legolijntje Posted March 30, 2011 Author Posted March 30, 2011 I added a SR3D to your topic title - should make it a bit more clear. I don't think so, because now it's looks like if I need a parts list in sr3d, but I don't need that. The file is made in sr3d, but I don't need a parts list in sr3d. Quote

xSergio74 Posted March 31, 2011 Posted March 31, 2011 Hello, I'm making a building instruction, so I want parts lists for each step. But how do I get them? EDIT: I use sr3d builder Hi, using Instruction miner functionality you can easily navigate your model parts. It lists all parts used and shows the "Pause" line that identify the steps you've inserted while building your model. Unfortunately this function do not allow image generation of parts needed in steps: it only shows their names. It is anyway useful for reordering the way your model is build, add additional build steps and generate "visual instructions" for your model, but you need the application and a computer to display them. If you want to create paper instructions then you need to use an external tool. There are many and probably the best can be found here: http://lpub.sourceforge.net/ Byes Sergio Quote
legolijntje Posted March 31, 2011 Author Posted March 31, 2011 Thanks, but I don't want parts list in sr3d. I just want parts list in any program. And I tried Lpub, but I can't export the parts lists as images. Quote
Splat Posted March 31, 2011 Posted March 31, 2011 You can use LDView to open *.LDR, *.DAT, or *.MPD files. (I believe that you can just rename a *.LP3 file to a *.MPD file - Sergio, can you confirm this?) In LDView, load your *.MPD file, then go to the Tools menu and select Parts List. Choose the settings you want, click OK, and a HTML file of the parts will be created. The HTML file uses images from Peeron. Perhaps this is what you are after? I'm not sure how you would get the parts for a specific step though. You could try deleting all other parts in SR3D and save the file (as a copy - don't overwrite your complete model file), then follow the above steps in LDView. But then you would have to repeat this for each step, and if you have lots of steps this could take a while. I hope that this helps...? Quote
legolijntje Posted March 31, 2011 Author Posted March 31, 2011 Thanks, but maybe I'm not clear enough. I want parts list for each step separate. And yes, you can rename l3b to ldr/mpd Quote

Just a little correction in filename extension Anyway I think that .L3B files are more similar to .DAT than .MPD so rename to .DAT before give them to lDview. I never tried that functionality of lDView so I can't confirm it works with my model files... Sergio Quote
Philo Posted March 31, 2011 Posted March 31, 2011 (edited) Anyway I think that .L3B files are more similar to .DAT than .MPD so rename to .DAT before give them to lDview.Better to use .LDR (.DAT are reserved for parts files, and .MPD are container files that encapsulate several LDraw files) I never tried that functionality of lDView so I can't confirm it works with my model files...It does work perfectly with SR3D files... But this doesn't provide per step parts list. The only Application I know that creates them (in graphic form only) is LPub. Edited March 31, 2011 by Philo Quote
Splat Posted April 2, 2011 Posted April 2, 2011 Just thinking outside the box... I don't know what your skill are like with programming/scripting/string manipulation, but the *.L3B, *.MPD, *.LDR, and even the *.DAT files are all just simple text files. This means that you can read the files in a programming language fairly easily, and extract the information that you need. In the 'LDraw/Images_L' directory, there are images for every part which you could use, and then you could create a custom HTML file with the information that you are after. Even if you don't know any programming, you can just open the file in Notepad (or similar), and manually filter through the file to get the information that you need. You will be able to see every '0 STEP' command, and between them will be all of the references to the parts (*.DAT files). Quote
