I'm pretty sure there's now not a single person here who can say he hates all LULs.

After years of searching for batteries small enough to fit inside a minifig scale Lightsaber hilt, I gave up. The world just doesn't have an industry standard commercially available battery small enough to fit in a 3mm space.

That's exactly why I paid mucho grande to have our manufacturer MAKE a battery that would fit! And the resulting LEDsaber you see before your very eyes is the first recipient of our new battery technology. No more wires! We've managed to squeeze 4 of these batteries in the hilt and have enough room for the LED and components for turning it on and off. To turn the LEDsaber on, simply insert the desired color saber blade into the end of the hilt!

More minifig scale scale utensils and weapons to follow using our new battery technology. Stay tuned!

EDIT: FBTB adds,

Rob says that the batteries should last anywhere between 8-12 months depending on usage. No word on cost yet as that has yet to be determined.

Amazing,

This is the exact thing TLC should have done many years ago, I can expect that these lightsbers will be very popular amongst us AFOL's. It is astounding how much they managed to fit into the lightsber hilt.

This is Amazing news! Finally a battery small enough to make a lightsaber lit. :cry_happy:

Wow, very cool.

I can imagine many applications beyond lightsabers too.

Self contained street lights, traffic lights, headlights, signs, fireplaces, .... .....

Will they be allowed to sell this? The guy who made a powered railway switch solution using Lego parts received a "cease and desist".

I considered, that, but the fact that LifeLites does sound like the kind which could pull this off and that this was the only thing on FBTB today had me pretty sure it was true. Then again, I could be wrong. I'm going to go punch something if I am.

I think the good doctor is an April Fool !

Those are watch batteries, their smallest size is 5mm !

Unless they have contacts at a major battery maker.....I still feel this is an April Fools joke.

But they might just have invented new batteries! *oh2*

I seriously hope this is true, since these self-contained LULs are lovely.

So , is it suposed to have a buton to turn on and off , or will it be on until the batery runs out ( all these supposing that it isn't fake ) ?

The article said it turns on when a blade is inserted, so assuming this isn't fake it has an on/off button where the blade is inserted.

Seriously, if a battery company could just invent batteries that small they wouldn't be putting them in LEGO accessories as their first implementation. This is the kind of thing manufacturing companies invest years of R&D on, not something that gets developed on the whim of a guy that wants sparkly lightsabers for his toy Jedi.
