ghoulrealm Posted July 2, 2006 Author Posted July 2, 2006 I have seen the old and new pics and the only difference I see is the Flag...what's the other changes? They were very minor changes. The first alteration was simply the removal of the main mast, and second was to lengthen the ship. I personaly like the original version best, although I'll admit it is a bit "crowded." I'm working on a way to increase the hull height of the extended version to try and gain back the original morphology while allowing for ample mast spacing. Quote
Dreamweb Posted July 2, 2006 Posted July 2, 2006 Great job! I think both new versions are definitely better than the original. I prefer the one with 3 masts and longer hull myself, only because if you have a bigger and a smaller version of the same ship, the bigger ship usually looks better, just because it's bigger. And it's not only about your ship, but almost any ship. But the 2 mast version is also great. The original ship was really out of proportion. Quote

I have some tweaking to do yet but here is the latest version. Edited July 24, 2007 by ghoulrealm Quote
Berry Syedow Posted July 9, 2006 Posted July 9, 2006 Once again, fantastic work. I enjoy the gloomy feeling of the ship (weird, eh?), and the tattered sails compliment the look. The color scheme is right on the money. The ship's inhabitants actually look like individuals. A difficult feat considering this is a crew of skellies. The tweaking is definately paying off. The ship looks a lot "cleaner". Quote
Sean Posted July 10, 2006 Posted July 10, 2006 It is looking very good, you don't see many ghost ships but this is definitely a good one. Quote
ghoulrealm Posted July 30, 2006 Author Posted July 30, 2006 here is a a teaser pic of a work in progress the POTC's Flyin' Ducthman I fealt this was the best place to post it until it's finished. Quote
ghoulrealm Posted July 31, 2006 Author Posted July 31, 2006 (edited) A progress update of the Flying Ducthman since I'm taking a break from it for a short while. I don't have enough peices to finish or even really start the starboard side, and I'm broke for now, so I can't bricklink for a while either. :-( I should be able to finish the bow soon and complete deckplates and masts without a full starboard hull I also will try to work on the bley and dark grey integration or replacement. I need a good picture of the main deck as well. If anyone finds one give me the heads up *y* Edited July 24, 2007 by ghoulrealm Quote
El Bucanero Posted July 31, 2006 Posted July 31, 2006 Wow looks great! Love the stern, can't wait to see the final outcome! Quote
oo7 Posted July 31, 2006 Posted July 31, 2006 I like the mix of the old and new grey, it makes a more natural, weathered appearance. Never thought I'd see greeblies in the pirate theme. :-P Quote
El Bucanero Posted July 31, 2006 Posted July 31, 2006 Suggestion: maybe a bit difficult but she should be longer, the flying dutchman is longer she is really huge!! I am currently tryin' too build a flying dutchman on a brick-build, gray hull, the old gray looks more ''greener'' and thats the best colour bah the dutchman is huge, fortunatly my amount of gray pieces is quite huge too :-/ , but your'e ship is great as it is now, don't partly destroy it because of my comment! about the main deck: I don't have a pic of it but there is a thing too summon the kraken, do you already have a Davy Jones minifig? if yes could you post it? Arrr Mr Tiber Quote
Evil Willy Posted July 31, 2006 Posted July 31, 2006 Wow sorry I have not commented on this thread yet, But I must say I'm a huge fan Mr. Ghostrealm. Your ships are absolutely wonderfully brialliant. I love every version of your ghost ship, and Davy jones's ship THe flying dutchman is looks WOW. You are an insperation to us all, thank you...I envy your skill in small, elegant ship design. Quote

I can't make her longer even if I wanted to. I'm out of slope bricks for now. Speaking of green I plan on adding some sort of seaweed detail. do you already have a Davy Jones minifig? if yes could you post it? I have given it a little thought, but don't have anything in the works for now. (maybe a brick built minfig head with minifig hands or viking horns for the tentacle beard) just a idea I had!? Quote

Why thankyou, and thanks to everyone for their praise and suggestions. It has been a great motivational drive to create more and improve mocs. Also keep in mind my style is not for everyone. A lot of times I sacrafice stability for shape and form. It means that sometimes my models are extremely fragile. I try my best for a sturdy model but not at the expence of morphology. It is very hard for me to limit myself to a TLC style of building, not that they don't have some excellent designs! For instance they would probably never use disassembled minifig parts as I did for this creature's eyes He'll be in a viking hunting moc at some point. Quote
Evil Willy Posted July 31, 2006 Posted July 31, 2006 Aha I see yes...It didn't seem sturdy but I thought maybe you found a way to keep it sturdy...My builds on the other hand, get stronger the harder u push down on them :D Well your's look great though. Quote
Berry Syedow Posted August 1, 2006 Posted August 1, 2006 I positively love your Flying Dutchman, ghoulrealm! My eyes are bleeding from its glorious beauty! I really hope you can get some more dough to finish the project. The walrus looks good. The head is the weakest part (in my opinion), but there probably isn't much room for improvement. It'll still be a great addition to the viking moc. I struggle a lot with stability over aesthetic. On one hand many "nice looking" creations can be made using unorthodox methods of building. But, I always feel so much more satisfied when I can get a nice look using a stable method. Thus MOCing can be time consuming depending on what I'm doing because I'll try anything under the sun before I do something crazy. Quote
ghoulrealm Posted August 3, 2006 Author Posted August 3, 2006 (edited) I wanted to reiterrate the reference site of POTC ship pics In case you'ld like to make comparisons to the model. and show the reaper figurehead before it's obscured by to much other details. Enjoy! Edited July 24, 2007 by ghoulrealm Quote

Here are some of the junks I've already built, if you haven't seen them yet. did you guys know that the dutchman ca eat other ships? No! Did that happen in the movie? Quote
SkaForHire Posted August 17, 2006 Posted August 17, 2006 are you sure the empress is being used in POTC 3? Wouldn't it then become Pirates of the Far East? lol ... not that there are not junks in my pirate world, but i am under the impression POTC is trying to keep some sort of geography reality.... but then again i wondered why it was the "east india company" involved in the west indies... though there was no west india company in england, i thought the movie had made a mistake... i am pretty sure the EIC did not have much to do with the west indies... but i could be wrong. ghoulrealm Posted August 18, 2006 Author Posted August 18, 2006 You don't see many junks around, so I'll take whatever I can get. Even if it turns out to be a bad plot, I'm always more interested in the settings and soundtracks anyway. Quote
