I want to clean my second hand 8868'anyone got any good ideas for cleaning bricks and getting White bricks that are gone yellow back clean,

Anyone ever try the washing machine,u could put parts in a pillow case at 30 degrees?

I have the same dilemma for at least three years now. I was able to acquire around 8-10 big technic sets that are grimmy and dusty. Will the result be 'almost' the same if I don't disassemble the sets and just brush (using a toothbrush) the grime away and then submerge the sets for a period of time in water and oxyclean? I'm afraid of breaking the sets apart since I do not have the instruction booklets.

Has anyone tried this method of cleaning before? Any input is appreciated.

Despite the cleaning ability, I read that the bricks may also get brittle. I would be careful on bushes and gears. I've had many Technic bushes that split in two over time..wouldn't this make parts from older sets even more brittle? Idk..just a thought.

Regarding the dust, also heavy dust on plates, I sort the parts by size and then soak them in warm water and soap. I soak them for about 15-30 minutes, then rinse them with warm water, finally cold. This gave me very good results. I had some very dusty 8 x 16 plates which are not easy to be cleaned. I rinse them multiple times as some used Lego may be in a good condition but stored in woolbags etc, leaving hairballs etc. around...

Alternatively for lots of parts I put them in a net and this one in a cushion-cover. The qhole assembly into the washing machine.

Also quite good

I put all my dirty lego in a pillow case and then in the washing machine, 40 degree wash with a slow spin, then leave to air dry on a towel, works fine and does not remove print or stickers.

i will try that oxyclean stuff though looks like it works well.

maybe i should try cleaning my bricks but then again i like them dulled aswell

Since we have been having clear, blue sky days for the past week (sorry UK people) I will be cleaning with Vanish (Oxi, Colour powder) and Hydrogen Peroxide. Hopefully this will work, because finding strange brands in Switzerland (like Oxyclean) is tough.

it should be fine, as long as you don't scrub too hard, or use any kind of solvents.
