The other day in wall mart I saw that megablocks started making a collectible minifigure collection based on marvel superheroes. They had a couple spidermans, venomm, green goblin, iron man and war machine.

argh! I was hoping lego would do this!

It makes me want to scream MEGABLOCKS the way captain Kirk Screams KAHN!!!

Well, Mega Bloks still has the Marvel license. If that expires, LEGO might get it (since they have licensing rights with Disney, who owns Marvel, and LEGO's Disney licenses seem to have been moderately successful). But currently, I don't see what the problem is-- it's just a natural extension of what Mega Bloks has been doing with their already-existing Marvel themes. Plus, it proves that LEGO's collectible minifigure theme is working well enough for Mega Bloks to imitate it.

If Mega Bloks had gotten a new license that you had hoped for LEGO to acquire, I could see the reason for frustration and disappointment. But really, until their Marvel license expires (assuming it will) there's no reason to be upset about Mega Bloks releasing products based on that license, no matter what form those products take.

They shall lose the license soon, and they were doing such a poor job with that license that I wouldn't be shocked if TLG gets it once it expires. And yeah, Disney.

Mega got my daughters favorite, Yo Gabba Gabba so we grabbed a box. It was heartbreaking. The figures were well-done but those bricks! INFURIATING!!! Having 90% of your pieces fit right may sound okay but everything we build collapses because of a few weak links. Never again.

Can't Megablocks come up with anything original? :hmpf: "Marvel Micro Action Figures - Series 1". :hmpf:

That same question can be applied to Lego as well. They didn't invent collectibles, nor collectible figures or even patented the words "series 1".

Granted LEGO didn't invent collectible Figures but still it seem a little advantageous of MB to copy the marketing format so closely, I mean a silhouetted figure with a ? on it, really? MB couldn't mix it up a bit and at least look original?

I think they look fugly anyway .

I wonder how many people buy these by the box?

No, they did not invent collectibles, collectible figures, or the words "Series 1". However, it's rather obvious that MegaBlocks is copying LEGO (although they're doing it more legally than Enlighten), and it can't be a coincidence that they decided to use almost the exact packaging and general idea as LEGO.

I don't see why people are raising such a stink about this. Nobody is forcing you to buy them. It's called competition, every company does it. Look at fast food chains, for example..company A comes out with say, a wrap...company B sees they're selling well and figures, "hey, we can order tortillas and do the same thing." MegaBloks, I'm sure saw that CMFs are selling well, seeing as they're up to 5(soon to be)series'. Anyways, don't like them, don't buy them.

Perhaps you don't get out so much (sigh). There have been the most dreadful disasters around the world with thousands suddenly having their lives cut short in cataclysmic natural events and here you are worrying about Mega Bloks having collectible figures.

I hear where you are coming from "White Nun" but this is a LEGO forum and not a current events forum. If we were all to stop posting out of respect for those suffering hardship the forum would not exist,

Yes there have been some dreadful disasters around the world and it's very sad, but I'm not sure this is the place to discuss it.

I hope you understand what I'm saying and don't take it the wrong way.

It's sort of like saying "what are you doing playing with LEGO when the world is in such a state?"

I feel I'm ranting now so I'll stop.

Peace.

It's obviously a response to the success of the CMFs, which I guess was inevitable to some extent. It speaks volumes for the iconic status of the LEGO minifig though, since TLG can sellthem with entirely generic characters wheras Megablocks have had to go down the licensed route as they'd never sell with things like 'skater dude' or 'fisherman.'

Lets see, they are on series 2 of Halo figures already, displayed right next to the Series 4 figures in my local supermarket. Click Brick have Swap 'ems and are on series 2 which is subtitled Li'l People (Two figures in a bag!!) series 1 was a small model, sometimes with a figure sometimes not. Cobi have been selling three figures in a clear windowed card for a while across all their themes. I have all the FF Trading Arts figures (some made before TLG even started thier series 1 design) and when I was younger there were even more trading figures and things I bothered with.

Really, it isn't a massive leap for MB and they are fairly competing. If you don't like it, don't buy it. It's not like they have LEGO SUCKS!!111!!!! on the bag is it? I could run around wailing that I like DC not Marvel, but meh, it really isn't important.

It will be a long long time before any of the other companies might be able to topple TLG. Chill out.

Yeah, Megablock figures are really nice  , but I would never switch over just for the figs, it's all about the bricks!

I hate MegaBloks figures! They have big, chunky bodies, but they have tiny heads. And they are over-detailed, with their moulded heads and such.

Anyway, I don't care about these new figures. As others have already said, MB have been copying LEGO for ages, and it's never had any effect on TLG. So why should these be any different?
