ShaydDeGrai Posted July 16, 2013 Posted July 16, 2013 Lack of space is probably the bigger issue I am facing. :-/ You know you have a problem when you're seriously considering digging a multi-story sub-basement / bunker/ fallout shelter under your house to store the overflow... Quote
dvsntt Posted July 16, 2013 Posted July 16, 2013 You know you have a problem when you're seriously considering digging a multi-story sub-basement / bunker/ fallout shelter under your house to store the overflow... I think you would have realized you had a problem long before that. At that point, you've faced it, and decided it will just go ahead and consume you (or a small hollow of earth under your house). gryffindorcommonroom Posted July 18, 2013 Posted July 18, 2013 I'm at 250.000 parts now, give or take. And my room is really small - so small the number of pieces to square footage ratio can indeed be considered critical. :D Quote
natesroom Posted July 18, 2013 Posted July 18, 2013 I dont even know how i could count. I have about 500 minifigures alone (70 or so space and town i would love to get rid of for castle) I have 4 of the 20 pull out drawers full and 4 heavy duty carrying cases 4 or 5 planos and 3 big plastic containers of unsorted. It seems like i'll never get those sorted. Quote
happymark Posted July 18, 2013 Posted July 18, 2013 I feel I am getting close.. haven't sorted several boxes loose pieces which I just bought a couple of months ago. and seems that I am running out of space already (for storage). I guess I have to sell something .. Don't mention the sets I am still buying (when it is on sale). but I do not think I want to open any of them for now. Quote
Tariq j Posted July 25, 2013 Posted July 25, 2013 The trouble I find is not that the LEGO has reached Critical Mass, but the space available to store it has reached it instead! I really should not be buying right now as I have recently finished a large MOC, now sat on display in one corner of the living room. But I feel that for my next one I shall need lots of DBG, LBG, Tan and Dark Tan, so am ordering a few at a time from Bricklink as time goes buy. Small packages don't seem like much once a week and the wife will not complain about that. However I have reached the stage of sorting and storage where my storage containers have reached critical mass. I like to stick to one brand for my containers and sometimes i think i spend as much on them as I do on my actual LEGO! That's exactly the same story for me lots of Lego but not enough space! Quote
legotrainfan Posted July 26, 2013 Posted July 26, 2013 Mine has now reached critical mass, but this is mainly due to limit space, a problem others share and have also pointed out. I'm packing away several sets after washing them. I want to get rid of the dust that has gathered on them over the years. I need to do that to have more space for other sets, but most of the sets I buy remain in their boxes anyway. My Maersk Train set, for instance, has never been opened. The same is true of my Town Plan set. I've no idea where to put them, and the track layout for trains uses up a lot of space too. However, I'm glad to say that I've found a niche for the Palace Cinema - I set I'd like to purchase in the near future - ...at least I can put it somewhere as soon as I've packed away a house. According to Brickset, I own more than 72,000 pieces, but it does not count all the pieces I've bought on Bricklink. So I've no idea how big my collection actually is, and I don't want to count all the bricks that didn't come in a set. It'd be a wearisome business. I only know that the room where I have and store my LEGO has become too small. If I didn't know it any better, I'd claim it has shrunk! Quote
Andy D Posted July 28, 2013 Posted July 28, 2013 I think ShaydDeGrai has the only reasonable solution! In order th have enough room for all the LEGO we collect we each need a "LEGO room TARDIS". Nothing else can contain our collections. The LEGO collection for each of us will reach critical mass at some time. Start saving up for your LEGO room TARDIS, start saving today, that's what I'm doing! I figure my collection is probably going to grow at the rate of 12,000 to 15,000 pieces per year even if I am conservative with my purchases. Thanks to ShaydDeGrai for the wonderful idea/suggestion!
