October 13, 201212 yr Author @ Blakbird: I wish I had been able to attend Brickcon 2012 last weekend to see RoscoPC's nine F1 cars. How well does the "LEGO Ferrari 126C2 with with Power Functions" model drive and "handle"? From RoscoPC's Flickr photoset: Edited October 13, 201212 yr by DLuders
October 13, 201212 yr How well does the "LEGO Ferrari 126C2 with with Power Functions" model drive and "handle"? Well, you need to pay some attention while steering to make it go straight, but with some practice... it's ok. The model itself is quite heavy, and the tyres have a lot of grip, so the differential gears are stressed while steering and during the starting phase, under the torque pick of the XL motor.
October 14, 201212 yr I had the pleasure of seeing these race cars on display at BrickCon last weekend. The detail is amazing, and I especially liked the sway bars on the cars. I think the dark green car was my favorite, although they are all fantastic. Really nice creations there.
December 10, 201212 yr Well, BrickCon has now come and gone and I was able to display all these cars. I even got all the stickers on. You can see the final display here. You may have also read in another thread that instructions are complete for all 9 of these cars and will soon be available. I used the instructions to build my copies as a test. They average about 110 pages each, and about 1500 parts. Any word on the instructions? I'm interested on building a couple of these.

December 11, 201212 yr Author @ Blakbird: Great news! Thanks for all of your work in making the Building Instructions -- do you have a favorite among the RoscoPC models you built yourself?
December 11, 201212 yr @ Blakbird: Great news! Thanks for all of your work in making the Building Instructions -- do you have a favorite among the RoscoPC models you built yourself? I'm not sure I could choose one. I have different favorites for different reasons. My favorite among the real cars is the Lotus 43, so that model is special to me. I really like the Brabham BT52 because of how unique it is. The fan car of course is really cool. Mechanically, I love the Tyrrell front suspension and steering. I like the McLaren for how smooth he was able to make it and the two-tone colors. Your best bet is to build them all!
December 11, 201212 yr Out of curiosity, what did it approx. cost to build each of these. I would probably be the best to comment on this. At the moment the 9 cars have an avg value of 2200 total. Each car is between 200 and 300 on the 6 month rolling avg on BL. Most cars are in the 200 range with only the Ferrari 126c and the 66' Lotus up around 300. Keep in mind though that some parts will be more expensive becuase you need them in bulk (the 3x1 slopes on the 66 Lotus for example).. There are SOME very rare parts but most can be color substituted and be just fine. Because Eric is a tyrant when it comes to "faithfull recreations" of peoples MOC's it was time consuming getting every last part in the original colors as designed by RoscoPC! Now, the irony is that I havn't even seen what the cars look like becuase they were only in my possession as a sorted mound of 15,000 parts! Best of luck to you on the build(s) and hope to have MOCplans up and running soon for all to enjoy!
December 11, 201212 yr Rosco, your F1 cars are AMAZING. My favourites are the Lotus 43, the fan car (as I like the cars in real life) and I like the McLaren for its incredibly smooth lines. Quick question, which ones are motorised?

Bricklink or through other means? Edited December 11, 201212 yr by DaveStruve
December 11, 201212 yr I sourced the parts primarily from Bricklink. It was 63 orders I think. I also sourced some of the parts from my personal collection but as time went on it proved easier to just order everything possible then try to pick parts by hand. Unfortuenently with 15k parts you are bound to make mistakes... so there were moments where additional orders had to be made as the build process progressed.
December 11, 201212 yr Rosco, your F1 cars are AMAZING. My favourites are the Lotus 43, the fan car (as I like the cars in real life) and I like the McLaren for its incredibly smooth lines. Quick question, which ones are motorised? 2 of the 9 are motorized: Brabham BT52 and Ferrari 126C2. Both use the Li-Po rechargeable battery and a single IR receiver.
December 12, 201212 yr 2 of the 9 are motorized: Brabham BT52 and Ferrari 126C2. Both use the Li-Po rechargeable battery and a single IR receiver. Out of the two I prefer the Brabham... How do they perform?
December 12, 201212 yr Rosco, your F1 cars are AMAZING. My favourites are the Lotus 43, the fan car (as I like the cars in real life) and I like the McLaren for its incredibly smooth lines. Thanks a lot! I can tell you that a new one (not motorized) is at a good stage, with the suspensions and chassis already finalized and some aesthetic detail to be defined... It's mainly in dark blue, but we all like additional challenges isn't?

December 12, 201212 yr It's mainly in dark blue, but we all like additional challenges isn't? ... Thats just dandy.... and here I was making a yellow reccomendation trying to make it easier!!
December 12, 201212 yr Out of the two I prefer the Brabham... How do they perform? They are both big, heavy cars running on a single XL motor, so they really only work on smooth level surfaces. So at a LEGO fan event they work great. Like anything with motorized steering, it is hard to make them go straight. If they could be retrofit with the new servo motor that issue would be solved.
December 16, 201212 yr Author I don't believe that RoscoPC's McLaren MP4-20 (a 2005 Formula 1 racer) has been shown on this forum yet. The 2005 black/gray version is a bit different from his red/white McLaren MP4-20. I don't think Blakbird has built it with real bricks (yet?):
December 19, 201212 yr We actually chose to pass on building these two beauties. We didn't feel like they were finished in the same manner as the other 9 so it was better to not include them in the "set". Furthermore, when I spoke to Rosco originally and discussed his models he didn't refer to these as part of the "set" either. They are still great models though!...and certainly looking forward to the next one (and the 20 after that!)

They were indeed my first attempt to make a MOC out of the Technic F1 sets (8461 and 8458): the F2005 was slightly more than a MOD, while the McLaren was completely new and then I started working with MLcad... refining my design procedure
January 15, 201312 yr Thanks a lot! I can tell you that a new one (not motorized) is at a good stage, with the suspensions and chassis already finalized and some aesthetic detail to be defined... It's mainly in dark blue, but we all like additional challenges isn't? How did this slip past David?!? http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=519344 I am sure that Rosco is working on getting pictures of the built version on his Brickshelf but I felt that everyone needed to see the new member of the family!! I personally am in love with this design not only because its the only US built F1 car ever but because its similar (but not even remotely the same) to the 66 lotus which we all like as well. Plus, the Dk blue is just sexy.
January 16, 201312 yr How did this slip past David?!? That's a good question Maybe he was so amazed by the car that he forgot to post it here on EuroBricks? It really is an amazing good looking model. I hope Blakbird will build one too, so we can see all RosoPC's cars next to each other. Maybe one day, I'll build them all too... I hope Keep up the good work
February 3, 201312 yr Author Besides RoscoPC's Brickshelf Gallery of his LEGO Eagle Weslake Mk1 1967 Formula 1 car (which was already pointed out by NYChase above), there is this Flickr photoset by RoscoPC. The model has "working suspension - steering wheels - stabilizer bar - V12 -- [and is now] Finished with few stickers": He revealed some of his techniques used, such as the "half pins and cones are not strong enough to keep in position the 3 ribbed hoses, so I have to move to the most reliable solution with the palm tree top part ": -(
