Well... I probably should have made a blog post over at the MOCplans splash page but I will be trying out demo's of the working site this week. If all goes well I will be placing these cars and a few others up available for purchase until the site is opened up to a larger "beta" group. Considering this is full on e-commerce I really want the site to work properly before I open the floodgates.

The large delay was due to a complete rework of the back-end when we realized that the commerce platform we were using would not have let us deal with the plans and associated copyright protections the way we wanted to have them dealt with in the long-run. Essentially months of progress down the drain but a necessary evil to make sure that what actually launches is a quality product.

I want this running just as much as everyone else.

EDIT: I updated the MOCplans blog...as its been far too long.

HI,

Was wondering if you sell your instructions to build these F1 cars?

Thanks

Yes, Instructions have already been created by Blakbird for the first 9 cars (the 10th car "Eagle Weslake" is in process). These instruction files will be available for purchase with the launch of MOCplans.com.

Hello all,

Just joined - having stumbled across this thread a few weeks ago.

Though I played with Lego as through the 70s and 80s as a kid (The original, "classic" Space Lego!!!), I've reengaged with LEGO now that I have young kids of my own (translation - my daughters play with their Lego Friends stuff, while I model in Technics!). In particular, I really have a passion for the 60s era Formula 1 - yet was not interested in doing scale plastic models. Instead, I am stoked to take on the challenge of attempting something along the lines of what has been shown in this thread.

The Weslake Eagle is just gorgeous (although that's only to say I find it more gorgeous than the other gorgeous F1 machines here! :). and I'd like to attempt it, once the MOCplans are available. As a "scratch-build" idea, I'm also thinking about a Ferrari 158 or 312, though that's way in the future.

In the meantime, I've been tinkering with a "mule" - figuring out how to create realistic-looking suspension AND steering, diffs, engines, etc. I've got a few sets (9393 tractor, 9392 quad, the 8386 Ferrari on order) that will be donors, plus a pile of miscelleneous "lot" Technic items (gears, axels, arms, connectors, etc.), and that's atop the 30-40 Legoland/Space/etc sets from my childhood days. So I have a decent starting point - but one quick (at least unti the MOC plans are available):

  • If I was to invest a few dollars (30$?) on front steering/suspension parts, what are the most critical part numbes? Looking at the renders, there's a few configurations between the Lotus Climax and the Eagle), so I'd like to get some of the core steering hubs, arms, links, etc?

Again, the focus would be for mid-60s F1 cars, modelled in similar scale (1:10ish) to what is shown here.

If there is a better place to ask this question, I apologize - please feel free to move.

Thanks,

C

Hi Canadius, in this range of scale (about 1:8) you can easily create working steering and suspensions with a fairly realistic shape and geometry (this is my main goal indeed).

I always try to use in a creative way the newest technic parts made available by TLG every year, but in absence of any "ball holder connector" I think the new hub is useless.

Among the existing parts I would suggest 92907 and 33299 for the front suspension, and all the beams and liftarms you may need.

Grazie tanto, Rosco!!!

I believe I have a few 33299s, but no 92907s - so that's a great starting point. I'll undoubtedly have lots more questions - but in the meantime, I hope MOCPLans comes to life, and I'm sure that'll help enormously.

Have a great weekend,

C

I forgot to mention this yesterday on this thread but these FANTASTIC moc's are now available on MOCplans.com.

ENJOY!

Oh...you can expect full instructions for the Eagle Weslake by the end of the year and knowing RoscoPC I am sure we will see another model coming out by that time!

Wow, it's amazing! How did he get the hole in the yellow stripe?

I recommend buying the instructions to find out!

Seriously though, he is one of the best and most innovative hybrid (SNOT, SOT, Technic Studded and Beams) builders you will ever witness. Truly complex and amazing builds!

LOL: thanks for the definition Chase... I'm a hybrid builder

@TwentyLeggedHen :wink:

3659.GIF but the most interesting thing is the technique used to keep them together

Just an update that I am finally working on the instructions for the Eagle Weslake now. The CAD file is done and is getting prepped for instructions. Here is the first render to whet your appetite.
