Blakbird Posted March 30, 2015 Posted March 30, 2015 For any of you who had been considering building the beautiful Lotus 43 but couldn't find the rare dark green slopes, I'm happy to report that I built the new Slave I UCS set this weekend and it comes with a whole pile of them. This means these parts will be available in quantity from LEGO. Quote
Meatman Posted March 30, 2015 Posted March 30, 2015 For any of you who had been considering building the beautiful Lotus 43 but couldn't find the rare dark green slopes, I'm happy to report that I built the new Slave I UCS set this weekend and it comes with a whole pile of them. This means these parts will be available in quantity from LEGO. This is great news, I have always wanted to build this but never did because of the rarity of some of those parts. Quote
Porter7887 Posted August 19, 2015 Posted August 19, 2015 Hi all, I'm a newbie and returning fan of Lego, so I thought I'd get back into it by collecting parts to build the lotus 43. Up to yet I have 33% of the parts, only started yesterday! I'm trying to use as many parts from my collection as possible. Do you guys have any hints or tips to help me out on this build? Also does anyone know where I can order the stickers? Thanks Quote
RoscoPC Posted August 19, 2015 Posted August 19, 2015 Also does anyone know where I can order the stickers? Thanks Hi Porter7887, for the stickers just send me an email or a PM Quote
Porter7887 Posted August 19, 2015 Posted August 19, 2015 That's brill, it'll have to be email as I'm still under the required post amount for pm's Quote
Block_Smarts Lego Technic Posted August 22, 2015 Posted August 22, 2015 They look so cool! I had to look up the one with 6 wheels to see if it was real! Quote
Technic Jim Posted August 24, 2015 Posted August 24, 2015 They look so cool! I had to look up the one with 6 wheels to see if it was real! Ditto. It turns out it is real. I was wondering though what the benefits of having 6 wheels are? Surely it would just increase friction against the wheels and the road? Quote
Rijkvv Posted August 24, 2015 Posted August 24, 2015 Spinning wheels generate drag. This can be avoided if the wheels are much smaller and thus can be integrated into a streamlined body. To compensate the reduced contact patch another pair of wheels were added, and so the P34 was born. It wasn't a big success however. It won the 1976 Swedish GP, but Good Year didn't like to spend much effort in developing small wheels for only one team. Besides of that, the brake disks have to be small and as a result will overheat sooner than traditional disks. After Project 34, Tyrrell never got near their successes in the early seventies. Quote

If I understand correctly, the current owner of at least one of the surviving cars has been campaigning it quite successfully in vintage racing events nowadays, managed to get a tyre manufacturer to develop proper rubber for the fronts (which was one of the main problems in the day). Trawler Man Posted August 25, 2015 Posted August 25, 2015 Albeit not my personal flavor, I think these are spectacular. Do we know what Rosco is currently working on? Would love to see a Mika Häkkinen era McLaren Mercedes. Quote
Seasider Posted August 25, 2015 Posted August 25, 2015 Still thinking about doing these. Would be the Williams and the MP4 for me. If he could do a Lotus 97T too that would be the perfect trio for me. A couple of q's Do the parts for the models cost a lot ? How do you get stickers for them ? Quote
RoscoPC Posted August 25, 2015 Posted August 25, 2015 Do the parts for the models cost a lot ? How do you get stickers for them ? Hi Seasider, unfortunately some parts are getting hard to find and expensive on Bricklink: I think we are now in the range of 300 € (average, depending on various models...) For the stickers, whoever would like to complete its own model can send me an email or a PM Quote
leksivalen Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 Rosco already has a new model. I saw it but will I not say what model it is. I will let Rosco reveal it.. Honestly, I've been waiting for Rosco to release the instruction :-) Albeit not my personal flavor, I think these are spectacular. Do we know what Rosco is currently working on? For the stickers, whoever would like to complete its own model can send me an email or a PM Ouch, do you normally have a budget, so to speak you base your designs on? Do your new designs start out cheaper in terms of part-cost, and then go up? Id love one of these cars (probably the 312T), but 300 euros will take some saving up (and putting other projects on hold) Quote

Id love one of these cars (probably the 312T), but 300 euros will take some saving up (and putting other projects on hold) Well, at the beginning (almost 9 years ago) my models were intended only for my personal satisfaction, so I didn't consider any budget cap or limitation on rare parts, but simply feasibility. In my latest creation I consider a little bit more the parts availability on Bricklink, also for some other replica (in case someone else would like to build one), but for instance rear wheels and tires are always there, and this is unavoidable... Then, my answer considered mainly new parts: if you are comfortable with used parts you can save a lot Quote

Im fine with using used parts, so i might be able to save some money there. Again, kudos for the models, and for what its worth, id prefer a more accurate model with rare parts and some extra cost over a "not quite it" model just for the sake of saving some bucks, these things look really good, and compromising on that would be a shame. legolijntje Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 I've never seen that one... But again... A beautiful model. I really like the colorscheme too. I'd love to build all your models and put them on display somwhere, but it costs a fortune to build them all (not your fault of course ) Quote
