June 12, 201113 yr I keep all my instructions stored in plastic sleeves in ring binders. I havent had any problems with fitting technic instructions in the plastic sleeves, even the old style single book instructions. I've started a more organized storage system myself. I pretty much saw your method and notenoughbricks' method and started storing. So far I only have my City and Creator instructions stored. Classic Town and 9V Trains will come next... http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/typo04/Inventory/inventory13d.jpg Edited June 30, 201113 yr by typo
June 12, 201113 yr Fantastic thread, I had the same question. I really like the idea of filing the instructions in a file box. Thanks for sharing!
June 13, 201113 yr Do your sleeves slouch since our Lego instructions are quite heavy! There is some slouch...I am thinking of dividing them into 1 inch or 1-1/2 inch binders...
July 29, 201113 yr I am wondering what type of storage people are using for all of the various instructions and catalogs that have been produced over the years. I have put mine in plastic sleeves that go into three ring binders. I am not satisfied with this because the heavy used for the documents tends to pull the sleeves out of shape and the documents then fall out. I like to reference these items for building ideas so I want to have easy access. I think there must be a better solution out there but so far I have not found one I like. What do other addicts do?
July 29, 201113 yr I have just filed all mine in a cabinet in manila folders because I keep all my instructions in PDF form accessed on an iPad or laptop and build using that so I don't have to search for individual paper copies...just search through a database for models by picture or by part number for inspiration on how to use certain things (e.g. cockpits and or odd shaped things) and pull up the corresponding PDF instructions. I thought at one point of printing the instructions but I have more electronic than paper, and I want either all paper or all electronic...so it was easier, faster and cheaper to go the latter route.
July 29, 201113 yr You may use 4 ring binders instead of 2 and better sleeves, like the ones used by banknote collectors.
July 30, 201113 yr I used to use a 3 ring binder, but I had to graduate up to a file folder system. I use hanging file folders in a container box similar to this.
July 30, 201113 yr I use hanging file folders in a container box similar to this. I'm using something like that, except mine has open sides and no lid. It work really well, even though its getting a little full Edited July 30, 201113 yr by Ratshot
July 30, 201113 yr I think we do have a topic for it, but I might be wrong. This topic. I tend to keep interesting instructions in a few box files, the other 75% I file in the blue recycling bin.
September 19, 201113 yr I store them in bags, and then put those bags in a plastic box that has a lot of paper stuff that I store away (letters, childhood drawings...). Works for the amount of instructions and catalogs I have.
September 20, 201113 yr Author Just a small reminder for admins; the subtitle is still wrong, somewhere in the first posts I asked if it can be "repaired". It needs to be "I own to many now :)" (I'm the topic starter )
September 22, 201113 yr I used to use a 3 ring binder, but I had to graduate up to a file folder system. I use hanging file folders in a container box similar to this. That box is a really good idea. I also like the doctors idea of downloading digital copies as well. I currently have my soreted in ring binders and draws like masked builers dose. Edited September 22, 201113 yr by wokajablocka
September 22, 201113 yr Some really good ideas in this thread, I am going to look at the binder method. Paul
September 23, 201113 yr I took the most obvious route...add a second box :D I mean it's not like I use them a lot, so why have a system anyway. In that rare case I need one I don't mind taking the time to dig it up from the bottom of the stack.
