Are their any pieces or minifigs that you can get exclusive to a particular Legoland?

Im debating going to the one in California. Is their pick a brick selection larger? Do they offer parts not available online?

thanks

Since no one's responded yet. I've only been to the Chicago LEGOLand Discovery Center, which I believe is owned/operated by the same people who do the real Legoland. Anyway, the pick-a-brick wall there was really paltry in comparison to our regular Lego store here in Ohio. And I don't believe there were any exclusive parts, etc., other than the free commemorative brick from the "Factory tour." Also, as you may know, you won't earn and cannot redeem VIP points at the Legoland stores.

That's unfortunate. Does anyone know whether this will change in the future?

I doubt it, considering LEGOLAND stores aren't owned by TLG.

I think the new standard is that you get a 5% discount if you show them the card.

That how it works at the Schaumburg (Chicago) Discovery Center, you show them the card, they take 5% off your purchase, no points, but it is at least something.

Thanks for the info!

I do know some of the passes offer various discounts, though I'm not sure on what. I'm currently planning on going to LEGOLAND Florida on opening day (woohoo!), and recently ordered a Plus Pass. On the passes page are these options, which mention various discounts (which I've italicized):

PREVIEW STANDARD PASS

Annual Pass benefits include:

Unlimited admission to LEGOLAND Florida for fall 2011 and 2012

Special discounts and invitations to events

LEGOLAND newsletter

PREVIEW PLUS PASS

Annual Pass benefits include:

Free parking

Unlimited admission to LEGOLAND Florida for fall 2011 and 2012

Special discounts and invitations to events

LEGOLAND newsletter

Dining and retail discounts

AMBASSADOR PASS

Annual Pass benefits include:

Free PREFERRED parking

Unlimited admission to LEGOLAND® Florida for LIFE!

Special discounts and invitations to events

LEGOLAND newsletter

Dining and retail discounts

Exclusive Model Builder session

I assume some of those discounts are for things like postcards and t-shirts, but what about LEGO sets? The fact that the descriptions of two of the three tiers mention discounts twice while the standard pass one mentions them just once suggests to me that there are additional discounts for the former; I'm guessing they include at least a few actual sets and whatnot, though I'm sure someone familiar with the one in California can say for sure. Anyone? And if so, I imagine this is a bit much to hope for, but can one combine the Plus Pass / Ambassador Pass discounts with this LEGO VIP card discount mentioned by Polish Guy?

All passes offer 10%-off merchandise and 20% off food.

Thanks for the info! But does "merchandise" here include actual LEGO sets, or just things like shirts, hats, postcards and so on?

In the Uk it includes everything appart from the exclusive sets such as Grand Emporium (10***)

In the US it includes everything except already discounted merchandise.

Excellent! Thanks to you both for the additional information.

Oh, one more thing I should have asked earlier - what are the prices like to begin with? Are LEGO sets priced at their standard MSRP within the parks? Typically higher? Typically lower?

Higher, if there's any change. Usually by a dollar or two, and mostly on smaller items.

California's LEGOLAND is much bigger than Chicago's LDC , it also has several stores in the park if I am not mistaken.

It does. There's the Big Shop and a smaller shop who's name escapes me at the entrance, a licensed theme shop between Duplo Land and Fairytale Brook, the LEGO Clubhouse with store near Driving School, the Brick Bros. Trading Co. store across from Funtown Fire Academy, King's Marketplace next to the Dragon Coaster, and smaller stores at the Land of Adventure and Technic Coaster rides, plus other restaurants vendors scattered throughout the park selling other stuff. (mostly not bricks)

Ah, Ok. Not entirely unexpected given the usual pricing at theme parks, but I'd hoped for price parity with LEGO stores, given the close association between the parks and LEGO, but of course it's not as close as if TLG itself were actually operating them (Merlin Entertainment, I know). At least it sounds as though the 10% discount for Plus Passholders will still save me money compared to paying MSRP, at least on larger sets.

Thanks for the info! I'm looking forward to going to LEGOLAND Florida when it opens October 15. :classic:

Though if you go to LLC, remember that very nearly just means you don't pay tax. (8.75%, I believe, in Carlsbad)

I've not seen a price difference between LEGO Stores and LEGOland CA (LLC) but there are some models that you may not find at LLC and a few smaller items that I've seen at LLC not at LEGO stores.

I pay the same sales tax both places. Actually with the 10% Discount at LLC is better than at the LEGO stores with the VIP points.

I like to look for sales and discounts anywhere and I try to avoid paying full list price whenever possible (get more that way).
