Fuzzylegobricks Posted May 11, 2011 Posted May 11, 2011 Wow I have not entered the Mannum world for quite a while , The truck is very cool LT, the garage is a work in progress like you said but that hoist for the car, I didn't see that coming (its perfect). Now must I guess the mega project? Quote
lightningtiger Posted May 11, 2011 Author Posted May 11, 2011 Thanks for the feedback 'Fuzzy' and 'LGG', I'll leave the hoist as is for now as I must finish tiling the workshop floor, some more tools and custom figures. Oh, and my Mega-MOC I left a clue in TOWN - New Mannum...etc., topic of course only part of it will be. Okay, a clue....hmm, made up of more than one, many different things and space to park many cars. Can you now guess ? Oh, quick update. Yep, a fancy tyre and mag wheel.....mag wheel you may ask ? Yes, a spare from Holly Shiftwell ! (I forgot to say that in those reviews, you end up with spare parts) Now you might have seen this shot before, yes....no, you haven't the ute is still on the hoist, but this shot is taken at an angle so you can not see said hoist ! Keep those comments comming and keep on watching ! Quote
lightningtiger Posted May 11, 2011 Author Posted May 11, 2011 I'm currently trying to work on a worm drive set up to raise and lower the hoist rails, trying out ideas tomorrow....9.30+GMT that is ! Keep on watching ! Quote
Legoless Posted May 11, 2011 Posted May 11, 2011 (edited) I agree you've hit the bullseye on the hoist LT. Also like the magwheel- its details like this that really lifts the model- as with your other MOCs adding just the right amount of 'eye candy' means that the viewer believes in it- it would be all too easy to add too much stuff and clutter for the available space by trying to represent every concievable function of a MOC building and overwhelming the viewer- actually detracting from the realism. I wouldn't be inclined to add ramps to the hoist itself- as that type doesn't really need them as it supports the vehicle from the jacking points. You could add cheese grater pieces but I don't think it really needs it. Edited May 11, 2011 by Legoless Quote
lightningtiger Posted May 11, 2011 Author Posted May 11, 2011 Thanks for the comments 'Legoless', well the ramps are going on the baseplate and have yet to be made.....I hope today I can do that. I might also get time start work on the Mega-MOC which might get to 5 or 6 32x32 wide ! Keep on watching ! Quote
Ricecracker Posted May 11, 2011 Posted May 11, 2011 That hoist looks really nice, LT! This is really one of your best MOCs so far, so nicely done. Might I suggest using these for the windshield on the truck, though? Quote
lightningtiger Posted May 11, 2011 Author Posted May 11, 2011 That hoist looks really nice, LT! This is really one of your best MOCs so far, so nicely done. Might I suggest using these for the windshield on the truck, though? Thanks 'ricecracker' for those comments, I did consider that part but since the van that come with the small rocket was broken up thanks to Train Show 2011....(dam, kids ! ) I use it's windscreen. In any case I feel the larger windscreen suits for the Ranger better and with 2x2 panels in the same trans-colour is like windows fully wound up like in a real dealership. Keep on watching ! Quote
lightningtiger Posted May 12, 2011 Author Posted May 12, 2011 Bad news on the hoist front , it will have to be semi-static that means if I want to have a vehicle lifted up I will have to prop it up with say something like a brick-built oil collection pan on a stand which goes under the sump of a var on said hoist. Tomorrow I need to find more tiles to finish the floor in the workshop. More tomorrow, including fresh photos. Keep on watching ! Quote
lightningtiger Posted May 13, 2011 Author Posted May 13, 2011 Just a quick update, I actually have not given up on a operational hoist and might have solved my problem - a few more parts and I can see if it will work just right. Keep watching ! Quote
lightningtiger Posted May 13, 2011 Author Posted May 13, 2011 It works, down..... Now for up......... Still more to be done, comments welcome and keep on watching ! Quote
AussieJimbo Posted May 13, 2011 Posted May 13, 2011 Well done finding a way to make it work. Looks great. :classic: Quote
lightningtiger Posted May 13, 2011 Author Posted May 13, 2011 Well done finding a way to make it work. Looks great. :classic: Thanks 'AJ', the redesign happen by chance and it's gear on both sides with both said gears must be driven up and down at the same time. Now flooring still to be down plus parts shelves and custom figures, but it should be all done by the end of next week. Footnote - small pieces of the Mega-MOC have also been started ! Keep on watching everyone ! Quote
lightningtiger Posted May 13, 2011 Author Posted May 13, 2011 Some of the next gear on the drawing board for the workshop will be...... Suggestions.....feel free to say what should be made out of that photo. Quote
Legoless Posted May 13, 2011 Posted May 13, 2011 (edited) A trolley jack would be essential as a minimum, and axle stands too if you can work out a good way to make them without being too chunky. Don't forget a centrefeed wallmounted blue paper dispenser- these are usually found in garages. Edited May 13, 2011 by Legoless Quote
lightningtiger Posted May 13, 2011 Author Posted May 13, 2011 Axle stands shouldn't be a worry, trolley jack static yes, dynamic a little tricky ! Paper towel dispenser.....sounds good to me. Keep watching ! Quote
Tazmaniac Posted May 13, 2011 Posted May 13, 2011 A Ford dealer what is this?? Where's the Holden dealer Just kidding I'm not one of those. A great start LT (korny) but I'll stick with John Deere for all my tractor needs. Quote
lightningtiger Posted May 14, 2011 Author Posted May 14, 2011 We'll see 'Taz' about this Holden dealer and John Deere it is then ! Keep watching over the next week for stacks of updates. Quote
dr_spock Posted May 14, 2011 Posted May 14, 2011 Nice job on the lift. Tool chest and engine lift. Quote
lightningtiger Posted May 14, 2011 Author Posted May 14, 2011 Thanks 'spock', tool chest is really easy and I have done them before. Engine lift - I'll look into it early this week comming......any other ideas keep them comming ! Quote
Legoless Posted May 14, 2011 Posted May 14, 2011 How about a battery charger with battery being charged? Could use non-Lego thin guage wire for the cable (speaker cable or stripped from a non-functioning small electonic item). Quote
lightningtiger Posted May 14, 2011 Author Posted May 14, 2011 How about a battery charger with battery being charged? Could use non-Lego thin guage wire for the cable (speaker cable or stripped from a non-functioning small electonic item). Thanks for the suggestion, I was thinking along the lines of a large battery changer and your idea of using thin red/black hook-up wire is a sound one ! Keep on watching ! Quote
lightningtiger Posted May 15, 2011 Author Posted May 15, 2011 G'day everyone, I need some different advice on this MOC now.....what staff do I need here...numbers and who ? At the moment I know I need a spare parts person and at least one mechanic....but who else ? Once the workshops and figures are done, then the tractor sales yard gets done at the same time as Mega-MOC gets off the ground - fingers crossed I actually get a serious start on some of it's buildings tomorrow ! Quote
Man with a hat Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 That's some great progress you're showing. I like the way your car turned out. But most of all I like the hoist you made. That looks great. I don't think I have seen something like that this good. And apart from the spare parts person and mechanic I think you need at least one salesman, in a nice suit of course, and maybe a secretary to do all the paper work? Quote
lightningtiger Posted May 15, 2011 Author Posted May 15, 2011 Well, thanks 'Man With A Hat' for your kind words and your staffing suggestions, logically you are right at least 4 staff are required....man, now it's time to customize ! Keep watching this topic - changes are happening ! Quote
Redcross Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 Looking good as always LT, my suggestion would be to grease it up a bit, oil pool on the floor and on the mechanic uniforms. Look for the story or angle to give you inspiration. For example the shocked face in the customer as he looks at the bill and hands over the $100 dollar notes. Keep up the good work. Quote
