Posted April 28, 201113 yr I finally present you my heavy haulage transport MOC in real bricks. After a month of LDD-in’, Bricklinkin’, smokin’, drinkin’, cursin’ and f--- no wait, shouldn’t say it, kids might be reading this too LOL.. Mission: Make something really long, that looks like an official Lego set, such as the 7747 (since I couldn’t get my hands on it)..while keeping everything simple. Seeing Mega Moves episodes on Discovery urged me even more to do this MOC The prime mover: Some of you had probably seen my previous MOC, the Scania T-series inspired prime mover.. I did a slight mod to it. Here it is again now. I converted it to typical heavier duty 8x4 prime mover. Retrofitted with additional axle in the back, shortened wheelbase. Shortened cab to make space for the heavy haulage ‘tower’, which is a direct copy of the 7747. This ‘tower’ houses a cooling system, additional diesel tanks, air tanks, and tool boxes on the real thing. My reference, the 8x4 Scania T series. I applied small amount of stickers, with large visible non-stylized fonts and logo..so it looks like an official Lego set. No tiny unreadable fonts that 6 y/o kids can’t read or understand. I made stickers of a fictious company called “Brick Transports” (clearly I’m running out of ideas for names). The logo is typical road service chevron and “Brick” letterings encased inside a black 3 stud brick. Horsepower?? That’s an understatement. This thing is packing Elephant Power under the bonnet!! In a typical Lego manner, the 1x2x1 bricks is usually stickered indicating the role of the vehicle. A very famous Dutch heavy haulage company Mammoet, also uses a mammoth as their logo. Elephants define pulling strength, hence their utilization in Ancient Times to haul heavy loads. Now they’re replaced by huge V8 turbo-diesels running Allison auto-transmission..I made a cutesy version of the elephant for a more childish appeal.. My daughter doesn’t know what a heavy haulage truck is..but seeing Jumbo the elephant there, she knows it’s something big, powerful, and can momentarily halt planet Earth’s rotation and in Lego’s perspective, the role of this vehicle is clear: haulin’ butt with brute force ahahaha... To top it off an “insignia” of a set’s designer. I decided to go with my daughter’s initial, and her birthdate for the numbering.. The trailer : Inspired by Nooteboom Euro low loaders ,with 4 axle bogie. I designed an extendable feature so it could cater different load lengths. By utilizing some Technic parts and bricks the loader can be shortened or lengthened. Fully extended, 3221 next to it for comparo... The loader is 8 wide, currently the load is an official 7631 Dumptrucks. I finally found a real use of the wheelchokes from the 3180. I decided to keep the floor studded (as opposed to the almost studless prime mover), to give me liberty when attaching anchor points for differing loads. Tires are wide small slicks to give an impression of a duallie, but the spares are narrow, indicating singles. So have I accomplished my mission yet? Err Idk, you guys are my panel judges of honor. Comments are welcome. I’ll leave you with a short comic..thanks for looking guys! Cheers... Edited April 30, 201113 yr by Out of Sight
April 28, 201113 yr Very impressive, I love the details here, esp the comic :) One question, how do that heavy load gets off the trailer?
April 28, 201113 yr Author Very impressive, I love the details here, esp the comic :) One question, how do that heavy load gets off the trailer? Ah yes..on the real trailer, it has a detachable gooseneck, so the trailer can be disconnected right behind the fifth wheel, forming a nice ramp for the load to drive on to. please click this link: http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.freepatentsonline.com/7156591-0-large.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.freepatentsonline.com/7156591.html&usg=__JWjU8cD1_wWTG7OfKHOiMkZ6hQ4=&h=722&w=2769&sz=253&hl=en&start=17&zoom=1&itbs=1&tbnid=fSmTlG2MTIzOvM:&tbnh=39&tbnw=150&prev=/images%3Fq%3Ddetachable%2Bgooseneck%26hl%3Den%26safe%3Doff%26sout%3D1%26biw%3D1280%26bih%3D834%26tbm%3Disch&ei=pCy5Ta3zNoH5rQf7raTdBA
April 28, 201113 yr Very well done Prime Mover truck with trailer OoS! It sure does look like it's up to the huge task of carrying heavy equipment. Great job!
April 28, 201113 yr Prety Nice !! Me too I use "Brick" in all my fictional companies :) And what's your paper please? (Brand or model)
April 28, 201113 yr Nicely done. Fits perfect as a LEGO creation into LEGO designed vehicles/universe so it doesn't appear as a MOC but something official.
April 28, 201113 yr That's one awesome truck you've got there 'Out of Sight' It's certainly much better than the ones lego has released in previous years. Before you compared it to the Lego truck I thought it was going to be much bigger but you have gotten the size just right P.S I like the little comic at the end
April 28, 201113 yr AWESOME 6 wide prime mover and trailer 'Out of Sight'....also a great comic too - the last shot is beyond AWESOME with the lights flashing - very clever indeed ! K.O.B. 'Out of Sight' !
April 28, 201113 yr Very cool! I love the truck it really does look like a true lego set. How did you make the lights in the end animation?
April 28, 201113 yr That's a great MOC indeed! I love how it looks like an official set - I'd say that you've managed to stick to your credo well, it's something Lego could have offered, nice and simple, but still really good-looking. And those decals are great. Very impressive!
April 29, 201113 yr Author @All Thanks for the comments guys! I'm pretty much a noob when it comes to MOC-ing a minifig scale model (been into Technic previously), it took me few official sets and countless instruction downloads to understand how an official sets are constructed. I'm very honored that you guys like this creation. Thanks again! Prety Nice !! Me too I use "Brick" in all my fictional companies :) And what's your paper please? (Brand or model) Idk the exact brand of the paper. I had it laser printed at a local specialized printing service. It's called a 'Cromo'..it could be of Cannon. I selected this as it's very thin. It's basically a 180dpi sticker photo paper, with adhesive on the back. I had it clear film coated after that to protect the print before cutting the designs out. It's actually very cheap, costs IDR 20.000 (USD 2.25) for a huge A4 size. Very cool! I love the truck it really does look like a true lego set. How did you make the lights in the end animation? I used Adobe photoshop and ImageReady. You simply make the background (main photo),and create seperate layers for each lights. Add each sequence of flashing lights to the animation 'reel', then edit/export the file to ImageReady. You can adjust the delay time of each sequence so you get the right intermitent timing. Once you're happy with it, simply "save optimized as" > select .gif format. Voila! Just google it up, there are loads of infos on making simple animated .gif files!
April 30, 201113 yr Author Anytime man! Animation makes for a great presentation of any MOC, especially when it comes to flashing lights. Speaking of flashing lights, I 've watched some vid on the 'Tube on actual European heavy haulage services in action. I made slight alterations on the sequences, now with a faster, brighter flashes and additional flashes on the headlights. You can scroll up to my edited first post..or don't bother, here it is
May 1, 201113 yr Great heavy hauler 'OoS' Fantastic job on this build. Love the triple axle design. Been wanting to MOC of one of those, or at least adding a third to the truck from the construction site or wind turbine transport. Anyway fantastic job, keep it up
May 2, 201113 yr Horsepower?? That’s an understatement. This thing is packing Elephant Power under the bonnet!! Nice, but the elephant looks familiar to me
May 2, 201113 yr Author Nice, but the elephant looks familiar to me You've got a keen eye! Yes I've always thought an elephant fits the bill as a heavy duty puller, I guess Mammoet had the same idea. I took, well actually stole some characteristics of many famous European heavy haulage companies. The red white scheme of this MOC is taken from West of Scotland haulage company. I thought red would make a nice contrast to the yellow construction machinery..and it's a standard brick color so obtainability and price can be kept to a minimum
