natelite Posted August 10, 2006 Posted August 10, 2006 well, just the other day when i was scouring the local target stores to clean out their batcave sets i noticed something different. the lego aisle expanded. the sets now occupy the entire aisle. playmo reduced to 1/3 aisle; megabloks 1/4 (in the same aisle as john deere, weird!). lego sets must be selling well for target to give them more space. when i was there the soccer stadium set was sold out, all 2005 sets sold out (probably due to the massive discounts in july to clear them), batcave sold out (but we know why ;-) ) and what's different is now they have tons of $80-$100 large sets for sale; much more than before. this means target is expecting them to sell well. i think lego should start redesigning their boxes. it's simple too large. they can save on shipping cost and on packaging cost by not shipping empty air. it's expensive shipping large half-empty boxes. and maybe if they cut cost this way they dont have to move their packing production to mexico. :-P anyway, back to topic...judging by the aisle only mattel and hasbro are doing better. mattel has lots of new superhero figurines...the new batman, superman series looked awesome. hasbro and its star wars figurines also occupy an entire aisle. WhiteHexagon Posted August 21, 2006 Posted August 21, 2006 I bought set 7020 just for the cool viking minifigs :) and very happy with them, but also nicely surprised with the whole set. Although there are some wierd 'bricks' in there. The mechanics of the firing mechanism is really quite clever. Who on earth, and how on earth, did someone come up with this design. Well done TLG and thanks for the nice minifigs :) Peter Quote
jof Posted August 21, 2006 Posted August 21, 2006 I think that you are correct. Kids don't want multiple copies of one set. And us? Well I think that we are now overcompensating for our childhood days, when Lego was so expensive and never in the sales. Now we have disposable income, we have collections that allow us to MOC on a grand scale & we find sets on sale (sometimes at bargin prices), we see the cost of sets on eBay & wish we had bought the whole stock. Admit it, how many of you have purchaced multiple sets in the sale with the intention of ebaying all but one of them, only to be overcome by temptation & add the lot to your collection. I know I have - at least it was only 6976 - a shop was selling excess stock from christmas at Quote

Yes I guess thats very true :) but as a child I did once buy 3 sets of the classic space 6 minifig pack . Just to have 6 of each color. And I bought a few duplicates of the train track ;) But in general I wanted new different sets, but could never afford them. And now that I can, they are no longer available :( Wouldn't it be great if TLG decided to do a classic revival... dreams on. Peter Quote
Martin255 Posted August 23, 2006 Posted August 23, 2006 what happened, sne ;-) Of course we're not talking about children anymore, we're talking about AFOLs. Children never would acquire huge armies, that's what the older collectors do. Hey!if you adults would give us better pay cheques we would buy legions of mini minions to conquer the earth but nooo...Only you adults get to have all the fun...Now..back on topic - *godly voice* Doueth wishes have been fufiledeth - Clicky X-D when i was a young child i never bought two of the same set, at that time i thought it was a silly thing to do. I think most kids are the same way, rather than having 2 of those viking army sets, they will go out and buy 1 as well as 1 of the new viking catapults. Then if they still have some money left, maybe an exoforce striking venom and sentai fortress becuase they saw them in the commercial. I dont think kids generally buy alot of the same thing because they are young and dont see the possible benefits in doing so. They think variety is always better. Again...You under estemate us kids...The reason why we dont do so is because we dont have the money to do so... (Trust me i buy 2-3 sets annualy fom my money so not couning gifts..) Quote
