I dunno. From what I see at my local TRU, Walmarts, and Targets there are lots of CMF series left over. Which means those stores are not buying more until they deplete their existing stock. They might trim production back as demand is not as high. I think they are over producing. Which will hurt the line in the long run.

I keep seeing people make this point. ^

LEGO is meeting the demand now as opposed to CMF series 1 and 2 when supply was too short and they were nearly impossible to find in stores. There is supposed to be enough supply so that the product is available on the store shelves. That way, there is enough to outlast the rabid fans who buy them up like crazy allowing the casual consumer to happen accross them in the store and make an impulse buy, possibly creating even more fans in the process. It's not good for LEGO if the shelves are empty and they are missing possible sales. I think they were caught off guard by the success of the first 2 series and have since increased production. Like I said before, I always see Star Wars sets on the shelves but no one questions their popularity. I even got the very popular sand crawler on a clearance price but I doubt the set was considered a failure in any way.

Same in my case. Our closet and second walmart got series 5 and they didn't move that much. The target we went to with series 5 didn't look like they're selling. Even the Lego store in houston had a bundle that when i went and it looked like NO ONE was interested in them.

I think Series 5 was produced in much greater quantities than any other series, maybe to meet perceived Holiday demand that didn't materialize. Series 5 is the one I see warming the peghooks everywhere. With Series 6 not so much. It isn't just at Wal Mart and TRU, I was at a small local reseller last night, and they had 3-4x more Series 5 left than Series 6. They hadn't gotten in their Series 7 yet.

I think the idea may have worked had the retailers merchandised the sets properly. Instead of sticking them on random endcaps elsewhere in the toy section or even in some cases outside of the toy section, they really need to put these in the LEGO aisle. Another option would be to put these in the register lines to encourage impulse shopping. Instead they put the same 2-3 polybags in the checkout aisles, and once you've bought them you typically won't keep buying more. I pick up collectible minifigs all the time on impulse, so I think it would be great to have them available while I'm waiting in line to checkout.

Hopefully LEGO has hit the right balance of supply/demand now. With Series 5 clearly they went overboard on supply.

I agree completely about series 5. Every store after Christmas had tons of series 5 left and it wasn't until almost March before we got series 6. Maybe it was a regional release thing, or maybe it was store back-stock and they wanted to wait before putting out series 6. I only recently found series 7 and it was picked clean, so I think the series itself is still selling well and in appropriate released quantities. I think series 5 was them trying to cash in on the holidays and it didn't happen the way it could/should have. It would help tremendously if they were put with the other lego items or check out lines as meyerc13 stated. When I did finally find series 7, it was with some random action figures and they were on hooks. They didn't even have the CMF tell-tale box showcasing the series, so I probably walked by it before without realizing it. I'm sure they will continue to make these for a long time, even if it just goes on a hiatus and returns full-force. I could picture CMF being a more evergreen type of idea for the company since minifigures was the key to separating this company from a lot of the others.

I don't think the Team GB series has anything to do with it, but depending on how successful the Beach pack ends up being, there might be more like that in the future for the other CMF "sub-themes," like the space figs, musicians, or circus performers.

Well, it's kinda a rumour, because we HAVE had this upcoming Olympics subtheme and Beach pack.

I'd call it speculation.

Either way, I'd like to see more of the 'Beach Set' type of deal. But with a better model to build. The beach one isn't all too exciting, in my opinion. If they did theme sets I'd certainly buy them, as I haven't been keeping up with CMFs since S2. I'd definitely like to see a Gorilla, Lizard and Bunny suit set. I don't know what build able model would come with it...

i found this in page 65 of issue 14 of brickjournal:

... And yes the designs are well underway! We are currently working on Series 6, 7 and 8 and all characters are locked on those collections. Series 6 is completed from a design perspective and we are cracking on the elements and decos for Series 7 as we speak. So to illustrate how far ahead we are, we are working on Series 7 as Series 3 is just hitting retail shelves (January 2011)...

which means that we are getting at least 3 more series if not more so they aren't stopping at 5 series

Looking back at this, I can't help but consider that if they've kept working on these at the same rate, it suggests they're right now already planning Series 11 and actively working on Series 10, or thereabouts (!).

TLG really wants me to take a second job, I think...

It's a shame Lego don't use the biggest fan sites (who lest we forget, race to post press releases on their behalf) & tease the series - release a really vague bio, or a shillouette, or give each site a pic of an accessory & let the speculation fly.

Mattel did it with a DC action figure line.

Is it okay to post wishlist type stuff in this thread?

I could've sworn there was a separate "Collectable Minifigures: What's On Your Wishlist?" sort of thread but I can't find one..

If there isn't, maybe there ought to be one? Just to keep the wishlists and people's own ideas separate from discussion about actual news/rumours.

There's a thread like that in the Embassy.

That's not quite what I'm thinking about though.. That just seems very official, and there's no discussion going on. I'm thinking of a more casual thread where people can post their ideas for minifigures, their wishlists (no matter how far-fetched) and so on. People have already been doing that in the Series 8 rumours thread, but it may be more appropriate for a general thread that isn't tied to a particular series.

Apparently at Bricks Cascade (a LEGO convention in the western United States), Kevin Hinkle, TLG's Community Coordinator for North America, revealed that the collectible minifigures will continue for at least six more waves! :oh3:

So we don't have to worry about this theme ending anytime soon unless plans change dramatically.

I also heard that but I heard about them doing 16 series of 16 minifigures for a total of 256 different ones.

What I yet don't know is if they will mantain this pace, slow them down, or taking them to 4 series per year.

If my voice was to reach up to TLC, I would propose a "best of", a re-edition with GOLD bags, in which you could find the best minifigures for all series voted on TLC's site. You'd take one minifigure from each serie and make a final serie. I would put Zombie, Spartan, Elf, Musketeer, Evil Dwarf, Roman and Space Marine in this one.

We just got a review of Series 13 earlier today. You know that, right? These could provide for some neat figures. A headless horseman figure could be really cool. That's a neat looking helmet too. Not sure if the Hairpiece will be used for CMF's though. So far it's only appeared on two figs in licensed themes (Aquaman and Green Arrow). Personally, I think it would look odd on a yellow fig.
