Another thing to consider is that a themed series is going to "use up" a lot of ideas for its theme at once, making them less viable for future series. So anyone who is a fan of the theme but misses that series for whatever reason, is likely to have much less to interest them for a long time afterward.

Yes and no, I'd say. The Harry Potter series used a lot of variants of the main cast in outfits very similar to what was already/previously available. And some other themes, like Fortnite or Animal Crossing, have a lot of characters they could use without feeling too redundant. Though I do agree with the idea that "if you're not a fan of the license, it's a total miss."

I was referring more to unlicensed themed CMFs like the recent Space, rather than licensed ones.

I wonder if they will omit any Space-themed minifig for some time, or the complete opposite: have a minifig as a tie-in?

An obligatory animal costume figure, that's for sure

Yes!!!

Unlikely. They omitted a Space/sci-fi Minifig in Series 25 since the next series was going to be all Space, but the January series (if it is even unlicensed) should be back to normal. If anything, I would expect Castle to be omitted, since Series 27 (if it does release in January) would be coming right after DnD.

Hmm, so what themes might be in it? Pirate? Viking?

I don’t see why – there are plenty of Castle-y archetypes that don’t fit the hero/villain format of the D&D series. Case in point, the goatherd we got in the last non-themed series. For that matter, castle style characters could be even more popular because the people who just picked up the D&D series want to flesh out their world with townsfolk or a princess to rescue. I wouldn’t expect a sorcerer or wizard of any sort, but I wouldn’t take anything else off the table.

There is a difference between a themed a licensed series though and whle they would have to come up with 13 minifigures for Space then, for D&D they only had to choose between classes and some named characters, that isn´t really taking away any idea related to a castle related minifigure.

Also, if we look back at past themes we had at least 2 Historic/Fantasy Minifigures each wave, with up to 5. So there are so many ideas and stuff they can make and if they would really make no Castle (and as D&D is fantasy, they would have to skip that too) they still have western, pirates, vikings, romans, egypt, greece etc.

  • Vampire Knight, Goatherd, Barbarian, Harpy and Mushroom Sprite in Series 25
  • Falconer and Orc and Rococo Arstocrat in Series 24
  • Yellow Castle Knight and Green Dragon Costumes in Series 23
  • Troubadour, Snow Guardian, Night Protector and Forest Elf in Series 22
  • Centaur and Ancient Warrior in Series 21
  • Tournament Knight, Pirate Girl and Viking in Series 20
  • Fright Knight, Mummy Queen and Monkey King in Series 19
  • Dragon Suit, Cowboy Costume and Unicorn Guy in Series 18
  • Roman Gladiator, Elf Maiden and Battle Dwarf in Series 17
  • Ice Queen, Desert Warrior, Scallywag Pirate, Rogue in Series 16
  • Frightening Knight, Tribal Women, Flying Warrior, Faun and Queen in Series 15

If they really wouldn´t. But as mentioned above I would expect at least one Castle/Fantasy-Minifigures regardless. As @Accio Lego mentioned above, it doesn´t need to be a Knight, there are so many civilians they could make, or a wolfpack bandit with updated torso, leg printing and shield.

All of this of course will only matter if the next series is even a normal one, could just aswell be another licensed ;).

I really hope that we get 1-2 new Pirates figures, and I especially hope that we get a new soldier Minifig (Bluecoat variant, Redcoat, Armada (not very likely), a new coat colour, something).

Fair points - I could see us getting a medieval tradesperson, a noble, an armoured knight, maybe a variant Wolfpack/Forestman, or something else that does not directly repeat one of the DnD ‘figs.

If it is a Castle-themed CMF Series, I would imagine my ideal series:

1.) Seafaring Knight (if it’s not winning for Prize Minifigure Machine)

2.) Noblewoman (with a new headdress)

3.) Dragon Tamer

4.) Knight Costume Baby (a baby dressed in knight Armour paired with a parent in a wizard costume)

5.) Queen Fairy (wiht a baby figure as a fairy)

6.) Lion King

7.) Wolfpack Knight

8.) Farmer Girl (with a goat kid)

9.) Goat Costume Boy

10.) Zombie Knight

11.) Medieval Witch

12.) Merchant or Trader

However, with D&D sereis, Castle series is at its low chance.

I still only see a low chance for a Castle CMF and if we get it I don´t think it would be the next, since they probably would want to see first how good the space one sells.

However, if they would release one, I would hope for some usefull civilians alongside the obvious knights related to past Lego themes. And please no costumes, they can save those ideas for their next costume series, but for a Castle Series I want usefull figures.

Yes, Roman/ Greek mythology and Egypt have not had any attention for quite some time!

And of course, the Rococo aristocrat needs a companion!

Yes, perhaps a medieval civilian to go with the recent village release...

It would also be cool if they continued the 'forest friends' series or whatever you call it (Acorn boy, mushroom girl). That boy with the antlers on the DnD CMF made me think he is friends with the former two. LOL

Come to think of it, which classic space themes have they not re-done?

Classic

Aliens

Space Police

Blacktron

M-Tron

City/ Space Exploration

@hikouki Add to that list of things they've done:

Galaxy Squad insectoid

Ice Planet 2002

Alien Conquest

Space Police III (aliens as well as officers)

I'm still waiting for UFO / Insectoid aliens, Life on Mars figs of any kind, and remixes of Biff and Sandy Astrobot!

Also, where's my FACTORY space figs? I've wanted some printed Space Skulls torsos for over 15 years!

To be honest I wouldn't necessarily expect Life on Mars inspired figs in a minifigure series any time soon. The astronauts were not the most memorable/notable faction (except for the blue chrome which is unlikely to reappear), and the aliens weren't traditional figs at all.

I wasn't that much of a fan of the UFO and Insectoids figures either, to be honest. I'd sooner be interested in a Spyrius throwback—especially one based on the classic droid, which with its metallic printing and detailed leg prints felt very much ahead of its time!

I'm not holding my breath on any of the ones mentioned either. I was being a little silly, trying to imply how little is left of space to redo... sorry it didn't come across right!

LOL Missed that one! Come to think of it, Orion probably could be in this group as well.

Was hoping for another god or demi-god.

I endorse this! We could have:

  • Flower Fairy
  • Water Sprite
  • Rock/Crystal Gnome
  • Bird Fairy
  • Neighbor Mouse (basically a "civilized mouse" a la Beatrix Potter)
  • Dryad

Lots of possibilities there!

Honeslty, I want a rock monster baby that refers to Rock Raider theme…

The recent rock monster from Power Miner is quite cute but doens’t scream anything about Rock Raider to me.

Futuron, Blacktron 1 (a true remake similar to SP1 or M:Tron), Space Police 2, Blacktron 2* (non-mutated), Spyrius, Unitron, Exploriens, UFO, Insectoids, RoboForce (not happening, as the original theme barely happened!).

I would love some updated Zotaxians - Modern design standards and moulding techniques would really make them stand out!

A rock monster of some sort would make a cool CMF. I was envisioning something gnomish to fit in with the little forest sprite creatures.
