I really hope they do. I actually like themed CMFs (and yes, licensed sets as well :p). We already got Halloween, and as a fan of Christmas, I'd love to see them tackle that. There's a lot of cute possibilities like a snowman, guy in reindeer costume, santa, elf, etc

Agreed. I loved the monsters, both in series 14 and the ones scattered through CMFs. There are already subthemes as we all recognised. Others like space, warrior, costumed or historical figures.

Think there are a few possibilities for 'themed' series that might work well. Christmas/holidays is one, sports is another (there haven't been many in recent CMF series), historical figures could be huge, mythology, or even 'people of the world'.

Ultimately it's all a out how well designed and appealing the seris has as a whole.

I'm kind of surprised we haven't gotten at least one Christmas-themed figure lately. We got the Elf and Ginger Bread Man way back in S.11, then nothing. I agree that there's quite a bit of material to work with doing a Christmas/Winter Holiday theme, but they've got to time it better in the States than they did S.14. Lots of places didn't get those until long after Halloween had passed. I can still find that series, too.

At any rate, it won't be this year, and very likely not next year.

Considering that the original order was Series 15- Disney - Ninjago - Batman - Series 16 - Series 17, I 'd say Series 17 could have a Christmas minifigure

From what I heard Series 17 was in the catalog but the person who saw it forgot the color.. :shrug_oh_well:

o_o

But it looked like a regular series?

I wouldn't be opposed to a few Christmas related minifigures (or winter for that matter, like the current set with a Penguin Suit, small Penguin, and Ice Queen). I wouldn't like a whole series of them, though. I don't think the Monsters series was very successful, and the idea bothered me at the time. But at least it was a generic Monsters series rather than a Halloween series.

I just don't like a whole series to be focused on one theme like that. Normal series usually cover a wide variety of themes, like Space, Castle, City, Western, and more. This is much harder to achieve with a themed series. It didn't work well with Monsters, and I doubt it would work well with Christmas.

Now, if they were to do a Castle themed series, I'd be all for it. I wouldn't even mind if the next series was Space, and the next after that was Western.

I'd probably feel a lot differently if there was actually a worthy Castle theme on the shelves.

I don't follow this logic... Unless you're just saying the only themes that are legitimate 'themes' are those with an official Lego history?

I like the variety in a normal series, but I would be open to the idea of a Holiday/Winter/Christmas series would be very interesting if it happened. Ugly Christmas sweater uyg or woman would be my pick for an upcoming minifigure. Maybe S17?

But how many figures could they do for Christmas they haven't done? They've done Santa, an elf, a yeti, a gingerbread man... what else could there possibly be? A snowman and Mrs. Clause are the only things that come to mind.

I have these for a winter/holiday themed series

I love Holiday Minifigures but sorted on regular series, as I wouldn't like more themed series

That being said, your suggestions are really good. I added some to complete the 16 spots.

1. Mrs. Claus

2. Snowman (LEGO needs this ASAP)

3. Toy Maker

4. Nutcracker

5. Gingerbread Woman

6. Jack Frost

6. Candy Cane Suit Guy

8. Ice Skater Guy

9. Caroler

10. Sled Rider (?) (Little boy with a sled)

11. Holiday Elf Girl

12. Reindeer Suit Guy

13. Holiday Hater

14. Snow Woman

15. Caroler Girl

16. Tree Ornament (Angel with a candle)

That's not what I'm saying. I'm saying that I'm a fan of the Castle theme. I wouldn't want a series like Christmas because it would be unlikely to feature Castle minifigures. If they did a whole series of Castle minifigures, I'd be happy because that's 16 minifigures rather than the 2-4 we get in any other normal series. So I wouldn't mind if other themes got their turn afterwards, because I'd likely spend enough on the Castle series that I would have exhausted my budget for minifigures for the year on a single series. Also, others would have the same chance with their favorite theme. So, I guess a Christmas theme would be alright (although I'd prefer the generic Holiday theme that doesn't cater to any one religion), so long as I get a whole series for my theme of choice as well.

Well, your list didn't show, but it's right up there. ANYWAY, I wouldn't care for a Christmas-themed CMF line, but I definitely agree that LEGO needs a proper Snowman ASAP. I'd love to see that in a future series.

That's how I interpreted that, but then I'm exceedingly aware of your Castle-love, so I read your comment in that context. The point is, sure, we'd all (theoretically) like a themed series devoted to our personal fave, but what about everyone else? Best to mix it up all the time so everyone can get in on the fun.

As for licensed series, I think they're cool, and I'm totally okay with them, but not at the complete expense of the traditional series. I'm not really as down with general-themed waves, like the Monsters (even though there were some really cool figs) or Christmas (even though there would undoubtedly be at least one fig I liked.) I'm not a completionist, so I like being able to pick up whatever strikes my fancy without being overloaded by sameness.

Definitely best to mix it up. That's the preferred strategy, everyone gets something they like in each series.

I agree with all of this.

Great list and I 100% agree that a Christmas theme needs to happen. Compared to Christmas, TLC has almost always been neglectful of Halloween and 2015 saw the biggest year for Halloween sets and promotions forever for TLC (and honestly I don't think sales were all that great). Whereas Christmas sets have been offered by TLC for decades (to be fair, TLC didn't offer a general-avail Halloween set until 2000 whereas I remember collecting tons of Christmas sets throughout the '80s and '90s and if I'm not mistaken there might have even been something before this, but it doesn't matter what I am saying is Christmas has 20 years+ on Halloween in the Lego world). You could try to count the 1997 Fright Knights and 1998 Halloween Bucket but that bucket was a Target exclusive and the FK was a fright-filled castle theme.

To exemplify why 2015 was the year of Halloween for TLC (2012 and 2002 were popular before that):

* Halloween web campaign

* Scooby Doo Halloween campaign

* CMF based on monsters

* Scooby Doo line with a Halloween emphasis

* A crappy seasonal vignette

We hadn't even had a Lego Halloween site since about 2000 when the Pumpkin set debuted and then TLC kept it alive for a couple years. Before that Lego Club magazine, if we were lucky, mentioned Halloween and maybe gave us a build.

Pizza Suit Guy is inevitable. He won't be denied.

Do a series combining all three of the major holidays that come in the back half of the year, at least here in the States. 3-4 trick-or-treaters and monsters, a couple of pilgrims, indians and suits (turkey, flint/indian corn suit), then a few from Christmas (any suggested earlier, a Santa patterned on Sinterklaas or Ded Moroz, hell, even a softened Krampus). If they do the designs correctly, they should be able to work something suitable for Space and Castle collectors in there.

Loving this idea.

So.... they just released a little kid dressed as the devil.

The devil.... a character who appears in the Bible (I know the devil is a fallen angel in the bible and not a horned imp, but it's based on the same character/entity)

Do you think this opens the door for other minifigures like a medieval monk or a nun?

I think the medieval monk can happen under a silly name, like "Grandma Visitor", but I don't know about the nun...

What do you think?

(I know this is a controversial topic but I needed to ask)

I mean, heck...I guess a Nun could visit her grandma if she also lived in or near the Nunnery.

I suppose it's possible. I'd fully support a nun minifigure, though I imagine TLG would cook up some fairly weak story about the thematic differences between a nun minifigure and a minifigure of child in an imp costume, and why one was doable, but not the other.

I would be disappointed if they did as to non united states resident type people thanksgiving is really insignificant and should definitely not get multiple figs in one series (it would be as odd as a Canada day mini-fig series) and in general mixed series have something for every one so I think the only non mixed series should be the licensed ones.

I mean I'd love a historical , mythological or napoleonic series but its best for everyone if its mixed.

I tend to agree, I was just throwing the thought out there. It was hard seeing nothing but Simpsons II while awaiting for the next regular series, so I like to keep licensed and themes to a minimum, even though I personally think there will be stuff for me in the Batman and Ninjago waves. Different strokes and all that.

I wish they would/could come out with a monk and call him "Forest Man's Friend" or something like that to allude to Friar Tuck from the Robin Hood mythos. But I am sure even that much would be considered problematic.

Maybe they could sneak it in as "beverage maker". :tongue:
