Fives Posted May 10, 2011 Posted May 10, 2011 They were already working on eight... six and seven sounded like done deals. It really seems silly to think they should stop sooner than later so people won't be disappointed... which disappointment would be greater, really? LEGO will milk this theme is dry. This is probably making so much money for them, because there are so many idiots like us who just never stop buying them! And they will never run out of ideas. There is so much they could do. Like really, if they are doing garden gnomes now, who knows what we will get in series 8! Quote
legomaniac83 Posted May 11, 2011 Posted May 11, 2011 This is great news for me the hobbyist but bad news for me the penny pincher I wouldn't mind a nice break after Series 5 to get some other items on my wanted list. I only have some much I can spend on this hobby! I assume S6 will be Jan. 2012? Can't wait to see some prelim photos! Quote
Blondie-Wan Posted May 11, 2011 Posted May 11, 2011 I half-wonder whether there isn't enough interest in the Minifigures theme to give it its own forum here... Quote
Angeli Posted May 18, 2011 Posted May 18, 2011 (edited) So, if I am reading right, you are saying: "Dear TLG, please don't make more series because I want to spend money on something else, because, if you DO make them, I will by them all" :) and TLG will say, no problem, we do not need profit ;) And you are saying: "Please stop making anymore series because you will run out of ideas" - well, what is the worst thing that will happen if they run out of ideas (which will NEVER happen, it is only 48 minifigs PER YEAR, I bet they can design 100 minifigs new and wonderful in 10 days, I bet the designers are sad that not all of their great ideas are going to be published during this and next year:) :); anyhow, the worst thing that will happen if they use all ideas is that they will stop making collectible, series (and that is exactly what you are proposing I hope that collectible minifigs will end only when the make something even more interesting, and faster supplying (once a month 20 minifigs:); If I do not like minifig - I will not buy it (the quality is questionable), and if I do not have enough money, I will buy it later, via bricklink, or trade :) it is important that it exists, (like Savage horns:) and it waits for better days (more money:) I really do not know what are those people complaining about. They are just too spoiled by the kindness that Lego showed us in last few years :) (I know I am, I WANT BATTLE ANGLES:)) Edited May 18, 2011 by Angeli Quote
AFOL SF Posted May 18, 2011 Posted May 18, 2011 Well this is great and irritating at the same time, I'm in love with these collectable fig's, but I've already sunk over $500 on these primarily because when I decide to collect something, I go all out. So I guess I need to start finding more money to throw at TLG. All my feelings on this described in the smilies above. I sympathize with you Big Cam because I do the same. I feel your pain. Funds that is suppose to go on new sets are being diverted to the minifigs... we all need a second job. Quote
Jargo Posted May 18, 2011 Posted May 18, 2011 Look at it this way, you can still find Lego sets and parts from decades ago. None of this stuff is vanishing anytime soon. New stuff will be floating around for decades to come. Everything is obtainable. Quote
Mr. McDuck Posted May 18, 2011 Posted May 18, 2011 I don't mind more series. The real question is what will they do when they run out of ideas. Well maybe they make SW collectable minifigures? Quote
Brickdoctor Posted May 18, 2011 Posted May 18, 2011 I don't mind more series. The real question is what will they do when they run out of ideas. Well maybe they make SW collectable minifigures? As has been said many times before, it's unlikely they'll run out of ideas. Quote
Fives Posted May 18, 2011 Posted May 18, 2011 I could imagine that if they run out of enough ideas for 16 unique figs per series, they could start releasing less figs each series, but each series will have it's own theme. So say, there are like 7 or 8 figs per series, and they are all History based, or Sci-Fi based, or something like that. It would be a neat idea. Quote
Aanchir Posted May 18, 2011 Posted May 18, 2011 I don't mind more series. The real question is what will they do when they run out of ideas. Well maybe they make SW collectable minifigures? They probably wouldn't be allowed to make Star Wars collectible minifigures, for the same reason that they were forced to discontinue the minifigure collection line in 2000 and the same reason they now have to glue magnet packs. Hasbro owns the right to make action figures for the Star Wars franchise, and anything that's more of an "articulated figure" than it is a building toy qualifies as such. This is also the reason why Star Wars "battle packs" have more structural parts than the extended-line "battle packs" for non-licensed themes. Also, let me reiterate my previous statement that ideas are, for all intents and purposes, an inexhaustible resource. They don't "run out" unless you're being very, very narrow-minded about what ideas are considered acceptable. Think about every possible career in real life, every fictional character archetype, and every possible historical costume. Every one of these, besides a few that would not be kid-friendly, is an idea that could be used for a collectible minifigure. And I don't foresee that abundance of ideas running out any time soon. Meanwhile, I doubt the collectible minifigures would become theme-specific at any point, because one of their main selling points is that they appeal to people of diverse interests. If TLG made a series that was just sci-fi figs, then only sci-fi fans would buy it. By having a diverse bunch of minifigures, anyone can potentially find something that interests them in each series. Solitary Dark Posted May 18, 2011 Posted May 18, 2011 Personaly I hope the line continues forever. I never wanted to get every one in the set - I just pick up the one's I like, and so do my kids. What I would like to see is more characters that complement one another across some of the different sub-themes within the different series - The Musketeer is fantastic - How about some other characters to go with him - A red variant with a different face, or a member of the Court, or a Queen Anne? Just a way of putting a few characters together. This seems to have been done with the Circus and Horror-Monster sub-sets - But the Spartan, Gladiator, Musketeer figures dont have any friends! Plenty of others too that seem lonely - Haz-mat guy, Detective (Sherlock), That's where I would welcome some repetition - these guys need some additional characters to create some new themes - It's not called the 1 musketeer - I know you could buy 3 and change the heads, but why not create some additional diversity with the figures and accessories? I'd love to make some 3 Musketeers MOC's - But I guess I'll have to customise.... And there is now way they would ever run out of ideas. easily 10 more series! Quote
Mrlegoninja Posted May 18, 2011 Posted May 18, 2011 I'm sure it will continue for a long time. I could think of a 100 figs and 5 variations of each one. 5*100 equals 500/16= about in the 30-33 range. Though I doubt they would, they could possibly make 30 more series. And second, Collectible figures have sold very well, bringing in more money to Lego. I'm pretty sure that 10% of their total revenue. Also, I'm pretty sure that they wouldn't make all figs to one theme. Like Aanchir said, Lego woukld like to keep series diverse. I hate when people tie certain figs to themes that could be made. For example: "Now that there's a chief, hunter, and mexican they are gonna make a Wild West theme! I believe that could not happen. It probably complete coincedence or the repetative minds of Lego Designers that caused three Wild-west figures. Quote
Big Cam Posted May 18, 2011 Posted May 18, 2011 Personaly I hope the line continues forever. I never wanted to get every one in the set - I just pick up the one's I like. Now, lets not get carried away. I on the other hand must have at least one complete set form each series, and it's becoming rather expensive. I'm all for series 5 and maybe 1 or 2 more, but honestly I kind of hope it stops before it gets out of control. Then again, these are the best variety of minifigures we have ever seen, Chinese plastic or not. Quote
Ogre Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 i found this in page 65 of issue 14 of brickjournal: which means that we are getting at least 3 more series if not more so they aren't stopping at 5 series I really need to scan ALL the topics more often! WOOHOO! I was hoping for at least 8 series! *doing happy dance* It seems pointless for TLG to use a standard fig in the collectable fig's line. Pirates are available in PotC sets, Firemen are readily available in the Town theme, and the robber is also currently available in the City sets. True but, the traffic cop was a nice variant, just as a firefighter in tan bunker gear would be and another (DIFFERENT) pirate captain would be a nice addition to the mix, IMO. The robber...well, yeah, I'm kinda sick of seeing those. Quote
Peanuts Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 I love those collectibles and I like the fact they are being continued. There's still plenty of good figs that are missing so far, so I'm not concerned they'll run out of ideas and let the quality of the motives decrease heavily (not talking about the quality of the plastic, that's something I can hardly judge). I don't collect them, but pick the ones I need/like, so my affords for the figs keep manageable, but feel with you collectors. BUt I'm no way against further lines of those figs. Quote

I would like to see one or two new series per year, instead of the recent 'crush' of series that we got. But, I'm not hoping for an END. I'm loving the variety...especially since we're now getting figs that I've wanted for a loooooooong time (elf, Spartan, clowns, better monsters, etc., etc.). Quote
muscleman Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 i found this in page 65 of issue 14 of brickjournal: ... And yes the designs are well underway! We are currently working on Series 6, 7 and 8 and all characters are locked on those collections. Series 6 is completed from a design perspective and we are cracking on the elements and decos for Series 7 as we speak. So to illustrate how far ahead we are, we are working on Series 7 as Series 3 is just hitting retail shelves (January 2011)... which means that we are getting at least 3 more series if not more so they aren't stopping at 5 series wow! great thanks to that news! really amazing, I relly like the minifig series!!! Can't wait to more new and more set of this special sereies!!! thanks again! Quote
Lego Otaku Posted May 24, 2011 Posted May 24, 2011 Know what would be really nice? If LEGO decided to make one series all SW minifig as there's lots of alien in SW universe. Quote
Santhor Posted May 24, 2011 Posted May 24, 2011 How about this IDEA: 2 Series's of series's ( ) 1 series of series is still the normal one (random group of 'figs, like we have now) and another is from different themes, but not chinese plastic (i.e. Series 1 of that series would be Star Wars, then Kingdoms, then POTC, then Alien Conquest, etc.) This one might only be 8-12 'figs per series. THAT I would like. -Santhor Quote
fred67 Posted May 24, 2011 Posted May 24, 2011 Know what would be really nice? If LEGO decided to make one series all SW minifig as there's lots of alien in SW universe. No... I don't want SW CMFs; it's not that I don't want you to get SW, just not usurping CMFs... nor do I think Pirates, Castle, or any other themes should "take over" CMFs, even for one series. It's also not that I don't like the idea of sets of specific minifigures (something more than battle packs). It should be well known by now why they don't do it with SW, and they are probably hamstrung for doing other licensed themes as well, but I wish they could and I certainly would love to see a series of pirates or castle figures - just not as CMFs. Quote
vexorian Posted May 24, 2011 Posted May 24, 2011 Last thing we need is more SW minifigs. LEGO are not allowed to sell individual SW minifigs because then Hasbro become paranoid and begin to believe that LEGO are threatening their valuable SW action figure monopoly. Quote
Brickdoctor Posted May 24, 2011 Posted May 24, 2011 There are so many legal issues that could arise around this one action figure thing that it'd be best if TLG for the CMFs stuck to their own themes. I wouldn't mind TLG-created theme-specific CMFs, but I think they've got it right this way: minifigs that are very recognizable, playable, and fit into other themes without being part of a theme themselves. If they were from themes, it'd be more like buying a third of a BP instead of getting an individual minifig that can be played with as a standalone minifig. (which is not to say that they don't become that much more fun when integrated into other themes) Quote
WhiteFang Posted May 24, 2011 Posted May 24, 2011 Know what would be really nice? If LEGO decided to make one series all SW minifig as there's lots of alien in SW universe. No, I don't wish for that. It will completely defeat and destroy the purpose of having the unique variety of Collectable Minifigures. Quote
Donut Posted May 24, 2011 Posted May 24, 2011 I think it would be very cool for LEGO to rerelease the popular figs from each series and call the entire batch "CMF all stars". Quote
Mrlegoninja Posted May 24, 2011 Posted May 24, 2011 I think it would be very cool for LEGO to rerelease the popular figs from each series and call the entire batch "CMF all stars". But with a little twist. For people that already have all series, the same fig wouldn't do much good. For example: Clown from series 1. Instead of rereleasing the whole figure you could change the uniform to make him an acrobat, but with the same expression. Of course that would make it a different fig, but at least in wouldn't be the exact same. Quote
