Who? I still hope it is false :sceptic:

I really hope not! I have a few old figs on my wanted list, but would rather have completely new figs than to get them as a best of series or similar.. If I was desperate I can just buy the old figs with the inflated prices there are plenty on the marked.. This series 20 is getting me worried, because I know Lego will do something special with it and it is probably bad or worse from my perspective
If it is a female gold in a total of 5000 or one per box I do not mind since I only buy the figs with useful parts. If it is some kind of themed series like 18 or one fig from each former series that would be bad! Series 19 has set a record with new animal moulds and if it something to special with series 20, I have to wait to 21 before I can hope to get a similar series again :hmpf:

Hey @Roebuck you know I share some of your likes, especially when it comes to animals, but I really can’t get my head around being negative about any themed or licensed series in this way. Especially ahead of seeing what we are getting! To my mind, there’s usually *something* we wouldn’t get otherwise, and quite often some nice surprises (dolphin in TLBM CMF2, the awesome mouse in series 18, and Toto in TLM2, for example). I guess I view the figures as much as parts providers as I do the complete figure. I never realised for example, how much I *needed* the trousers with the printed check shirt tied around that’s in s19 until I saw the programmer figure - a figure which, if i’d just heard the name of, I could have dismissed. Yet she comes with those legs, great new face prints, *and* an easy way to get that new hair piece.

Thanks for doing the extensive listing, it’s interesting to see these in the round, and it does show how some themes are less or better represented than we often think!

I’ll be commiserating with you when we get a themed series that just gives us a new ‘space kitty’ mould, though of course. ?

It is raining the hole day here so decided to sort the CMF in different groups  Several figs can go different groups, but I ended up with these and probably a lot of you do not agree with every fig in every group, but I think it was interesting to categorize them so we know what we have, maybe it is easier to see what we will get in the future :shrug_oh_well:

Dude, someone really oughta index all that hard work of yours into a pinned reference topic here...  :distressed:

Personally, I hope Lego further expands what I see to be an Adventurers/Pulp-Inspired CMF subtheme slowly coming to be, but that's likely just me. :shrug_oh_well:

  • S2 Explorer
  • S3 Pilot
  • S3 Mummy
  • S5 Gangster
  • S7 Jungle Boy
  • S8 Diver
  • S12 Dino Tracker
  • S13 Paleontologist
  • S17 Retro Spaceman
  • S19 Jungle Explorer
  • S19 Mummy Queen

The little toy soldier is a special mould or did i get something wrong? I thought we don't get new moulds with books or did i miss something?

Nope, all his parts were preexisting!

@Roebuck what a great post, I read through it and was rather insightful to see rather than just by recall. Where are all the pirate figs? We could use a female pirate, or female swashbuckler, captain’s wife, or a pirate prisoner or other low ranked scoundrel. A castaway or pirate that comes with a bottle o rum would be fun as well :pir_laugh2:

Id say Video Game Guy, Video Game Champ and Ballerina are not sports. They are City

Well 3 weeks ago a 16 old gamer from Norway won the world-championship in "Fortnite" with his team-mate and they both got over 1 mill Euro each *huh* So the lines for what is sport is getting more and more blurry. They could definitely be in "city", but since they could also be Esport and I do not like them I put them with "sports" The ballerina is a difficult one to place, but since they train a lot I put her there also :shrug_oh_well:

Highwayman is not a warrior, but a Historic character

Yes could be, but I decided to put the historic characters with guns in the warrior group since they are good for army-building :shrug_oh_well:

Swashbuckler is a pirate, not part of an army or anything

Probably, but he is so different from any classic pirates fig so I would not group him with them.. He could also be in The Three Musketeers :shrug_oh_well: If you have several it is an army

Mythology should be its own subtheme I think.

I was considering it, but was hard to differentiate between "monsters" and "fantasy" sometimes so I thought a 3 group would complicate matters further..

Canonically speaking, S.14's Tiger Woman was turned into a tiger-human hybrid by means of an artifact. She is NOT a costumed character. That aside, I do much appreciate those lists!

Was unsure about here since she do not have a separate head piece with a mask, so she should probably go with the rest of the "monsters" in series 14 :shrug_oh_well:

You are probably right, even if he belongs in China he have never existed there except in fantasy

Well it is usually something new in the licensed series that I can use like the lobster, but it is so much more in a normal series. So they are usually a hit or miss for me, I do not have a single licensed fig except from WW where I have the hole series  Since we only get one series per year that is normal, I think the figs get too similar in a themed series, but both 14 and 18 had some great figs, but prefer the normal ones.. Off course if we get a themed series where every fig have animals I would love it  You are right I should probably not take the sorrows before series 20 gets here, it may very well be fantastic

You are welcome :classic: Yes the number of figs in the "sports" group got me shocked, I do not like them so I forget them soon after I see them, but did not know they where so many *huh*

Yes I do not understand either, and the kids love pirates as well  Female islander, any number of high- and lowranking blue- and redcoat's etc

Not to mention basically the whole Spaniard faction. We got like 4 Spaniards in the Armada flag ship set and that's been that. Let's flesh them out as a faction a bit. They got the conquistador but there is room for improvement of the line. Arguably the Aztec warrior could use some company too.

Fleshing out the revolutionary war with more companions for the single figure we have. We have two Roman legionaries and they got a Julius Ceasar. Where are King George III and/or General Washington? Paul Revere and his horse? Historically accurate Redcoats, Hessians, French troops. More Indian auxillaries would probably be welcomed by those who enjoy the western theme as well.

They could to a whole group dedicated to historical civilians a la City. Those could be fit into both castle, pirates and a Renaissance fair City sub theme. We have lots of blacksmiths already but no cobblers, glassblowers, Carpenters, Miller's or brewers. Baker's, tailors, traders, farriers or wheelwrights and shipwrights. Show the trades and proletariat some love.

As far as further CMFs based upon American history go, I'd hope to soon see some settler archetypes such as Mayflower Pilgrims, Davy Crockett/Daniel Boone-inspired Frontiersmen, and Midwestern Prairie Pioneers. :classic:

I'm not big on Western theme myself but depending on how they design them they could see applications across a number of themes. I'm all about kitbashing and Army building. The more people find a particular CMF of use the more popular it and by extension the series becomes. Drives more $$$, which gives us more Series' and more opportunities to release something to please everyone.

Also I too want a purist plague doctor... with leeches. And some old timey Zombies.

Monster; Not my favourite group, but I sometimes buy them. Series 14 had a lot after that not so common, but fine by me

Misc.; Chase figs or other odd ones. Will probably see more chase figs in the future

While we can't agree about how welcome monsters are (I love them) I was pleased to see you list several of series 14 as costume figures, which is what they were. Since I love monsters the inclusion of costumed figures in series 14 was a disappointment.

Also, if we're counting Chase figures as 2 or less per box, I think you're missing a few (Scarecrow comes to mind), and I'm not sure Crash Dummy was at 2 per (my memory is bad, but I don't remember these being hard to find). AND, let's NEVER infer that there may be more chase figures. Chase figures are super obnoxious and should only be met and talked about with maximum disdain.

My only ask here is that historical figures be fleshies, as per (recent?) Lego convention. This might be a weird thing to get stuck on, but I'm always annoyed looking at Abe Lincoln with a yellow head. George Washington (who wasn't officially called that) to a lesser extent.

As far as particular historical figures go, I somewhat see where you're coming from, though I personally wouldn't wish the same for non-particular historical archetypes. For instance, I'd specifically wish to see a yellow-toned Frontiersman CMF, not necessarily an outright figure of Davy Crockett or Daniel Boone.

LEGO does in Flesh only characters coming from IPs owned by others. (Ninjago are all yellow).
This occurs because of Lando Calrissian, it was racist to have a brown minifigure compared to yellow ones, so it was clearly correct to migrate to fleshie tones.
On the other hand, I see a wrong move putting flesh in "general" archetypes of minifigures as it would bring the discussion of "Why don't we make this one brown then?" (like the Tiki warrior, who is yellow but it should really have been a brown toned minifigure)

Those Abe Lincoln and William Shakespeare are the only exception and let's pray they remain, in order to have LEGO being a neutral toy.
Yellow is not flesh. Yellow is neutral.

I was unsure where to put scarecrow, but decided on "city" because you can find them standing in a farmers fields in the same size as people or in this case minifigs. The Lawn Gnome are small in reality, but this one is as big as a minifig so I put it in "Misc." instead of "city".. The Demolition Dummy is so odd (not because it is a chase fig) and I have never seen one except in videos so I put it in "Misc." instead of "City".. Several figs go in several gropes, but if a chase fig of two in a box like the Fisherman (?) could go in a different group I put it there instead :classic:

I'm not sure we should. Mr. Gold was a true chase figure, as were the Classic Police Officer and Percival Graves, though slightly less egregious in execution. 2-per-case figures seems more like LEGO not doing the case pack correctly, and I don't think the 2-per waves were malicious, just incorrectly gauging figure popularity. They seem to have settled on there being three sets in a case, thankfully.

Although I prefer fleshies, I'm glad Shakespeare and Lincoln were yellow, and I'd hope that all CMFs in non-licensed sets were yellow, just to tie in with the past ones such as the Pharaoh, Egyptian Queen, Spartan, Romans, etc.

However, if they can arrange that the torsos do not have yellow skin printed on them where possible, then all the better for reuse. It is easy enough to stick a fleshie head and hands on Shakespeare (and the similar actor) to convert him.

But Abe Lincoln and Shakespeare were real people. Just like the women of NASA and every other real person they've done, they should be fleshies. This convention is made for a reason. Yellow is for generic, racially agnostic figures, real people should be done in a reasonable equivalent of their actual skin tone.

If you do a Martin Luther King or Billy D Williams figure*, will it look OK as a yellow figure? Trust me, it won't look right, and people will have a not great reaction to it no matter how much Lego claims yellow is racially agnostic. In fact, I can pretty much guarantee it would be a public relations nightmare. Also Lego would be in serious jeopardy of giving the impression that yellow figures represent white people. That's an even bigger PR nightmare.

The convention makes sense, and they need to stick with it. Abe Lincoln and Shakespeare being yellow was just lazy, and designers not understanding why things were done the way they were done.

(*it is not a coincidence all IPs switched to fleshies after the original cloud city set. You simply cannot imply that Yellow figures are white people. I'm sure there are a lot of people at Lego who regret that set got produced with one fleshie figure and the rest yellow.)

PS, and I do agree torsos should not be produced with yellow or flesh tones when possible (to avoid)

According to Paul Seeley over on Instagram, the CMS following the upcoming DC Universe-themed Series (71026) will be a "Classic" Series (71027). :classic:

What does classic mean? Regular?
