Sir Norman Ray Posted May 1, 2011 Posted May 1, 2011 Ahoy mates, it's me, Sir Norman Ray. Now, I know it's been a long old while since I posted here. But, I'm hoping to get back into the old pirate game again. But I need some help. Inspired by the Hornblower TV movie series, I used my recent pirates line soldiers and the brand new London Escape set to finish off a detatchment of Imperial marines to defend my ship from Pirates, Armada and Imperial Guard. (Apologies if thats wrong, I'm still a little rusty getting back here) (with thanks to Brickarms for the excellent muskets!) Now I realise I have a problem. My Imperial officer and his sergeant have the man power, but no ship to actually deploy upon, and thats where I need help What should I do? My main option is to go up to the loft and rebuild the Carribian Clipper I have up there, whilst adjusting it to help the Redcoats. It would cost no money, just my manhood of going up super high, thin ladders to get my old, unused Lego down. My second option is to buy the recent Imperial Flagship. It would give me more Marines, a bigger ship to play with, but it's far from cheap. The other advantage is, I really want that ship! My other options are to make something more original from the Carribian Clipper hull, or order one of the older ships off of Bricklink or eBay, like the original Redcoat Imperial Flagship. As you guys are better at this then me, I thought I'd ask the experts on the best advice. Bare in mind, I'm not after a triple decker "HMS Sir Norman Ray's Mutha Fluffing Pimp Hand" I'm after something that would be smaller, more agile, but still pose a threat under the name like "HMS Sanguinius" Please help an old Lobster like me. -Sir Norman " " Ray. TheCrimsonTrooper Posted May 1, 2011 Posted May 1, 2011 The is quite the problem you have there. I might not be one of the "experts" around here, thought I can say I have the Imperial Flagship. It would seem to me that you have at least 10 Marines there, and I can honestly say you would be hard pressed to get them all on the Imperial Flagships main deck. Hope that info proves to be of some use. Quote
Captain Becker Posted May 1, 2011 Posted May 1, 2011 (edited) Well its always glad to have you back Sir Norman. I think you should buy some parts from bricklink and try to do your own ship for you small Redcoat army. If you dont want to buy the new IFS (Wichi would buy either, too expensive) And dont want to dig up your old Legos, or build Caribbean Clipper again (Wich i wouldnt do again, the colours are wrong IMO) then the only option would be that. Take a look at Admiral Croissant`s Vesta and Perfectionist`s Achille for some inspiration. There has many new Lego ships made over there while you were gone. You also sayed at you dont like 3 decker ships like HMS Vistory, what about 2 decker then? I personally dont like 3 decker`s either very much and im more into 1 decker ships, and 2 deckers are max in my fleet (Wich i dont have yet) Im planning to make my own ship next autumm if i have some money to start the project or instrest. Anyway, i wish you and your army good luck whit choising wich path you go. PS: How many redcoats you have in that army? I am too lazy to count them And sorry about this long post wich surely didnt help at all. Captain Becker Edited May 1, 2011 by Captain Becker Quote
Sir Norman Ray Posted May 1, 2011 Author Posted May 1, 2011 Thank you for your advice both of you :) I do need to take a serious look around here, I admit. Captain Becker, my main redcoat army is something like 300 men strong. The Marines though, that need a ship to guard, only 14 so far, and that includes officer and nco. I think with that size, it would be a one deck ship! And your post did help, thank you! -Sir Norman "Next time, be even more helpful..." Ray. Quote

I though at you only had those 14 new redcoats in your army. Mine is only less than 30 id say... -Sir Norman "Next time, be even more helpful..." Ray. And whats that supposed to mean? Horry Posted May 1, 2011 Posted May 1, 2011 300, that's an impressive number(and an impressive picture)! What you are lookin' for is a ship "en flute" if i am not mistaken. That is the name for ships from frigates up to ships of the line where all cannons have been removed in order to be light enough and to have enough space to carry vast numbers of soldiers and/or equipment to set up a beachhead. In the times of the redcoats there were no designated troop transport vessels. A ship "en flute" would be accompanied by at least a squadron of ships o' war (normally a ship of the line, at least two frigates and a brig, better three frigates). So you're lookin' for a frigate refitted to serve transport duties. Quote

My 3 companies remain my pride, joy, and emergency funds. And it means I always demand pervection ;) 300, that's an impressive number(and an impressive picture)! I see what you mean, but my main focus is my 14 Marines right now.I got these men, they need a tub to protect and I'd like a ship. I;ve been doing pirates technically for 20 odd years, and yet, I have no ship to pull into port. But thank you anyway! -Sir Norman "All ships, sink the Montana, I repeat, sink the Montana" Ray. Quote
Captain Becker Posted May 1, 2011 Posted May 1, 2011 Do you have any idea wich class ship you would like to make? A sloop or a brig maby? And does it have any cannons, if so, how many? These could help a bit when you are looking for an offical Lego ship or your own made ship into your troops. I think a ship like this i found on MOCpages could be a pefect sze for yours, only a bit more armin if you want to. Captain Becker Quote

As per the discussion of the ship, I believe that 14 Marines sounds sufficient for a 2 deck ship. Quote
Sir Norman Ray Posted May 2, 2011 Author Posted May 2, 2011 Well, once again, thanks for the comments. I'd say I'm looking for a fairly decent sized ship, that combines firepower with speed. I like the idea of the two decker, I may buy and Imp Flagship, as its high on my want list outside of the next CafeCorner series set, and most likely see how I can add another deck on. Got the parts, got more then enough cannons! -Sir Norman "More guns then a redneck" Ray. Quote
