BUT...even a couple of the old 'tree stump' pieces to represent the 'clearing of the land'.

The tree stump piece... It would add a lot of playablity to this set! Kid or soldier could hide there! I would love to get cow,l because they are very rare animals in new sets, but I think this set have enough animals as it has now.

While I agree that this set was simplistic in its design, I have to say that it was meant to be. This is for kids while the Medieval Market was for adults.

Having said that, I totally bought an extra copy of this because I know I will use every single piece in there for my own MOCs... well, except maybe the yellow bricks... I really would have preferred them to use tan, but oh well.

I know if I ever see this set really discounted, I'll be buying another copy. I love the peasants (new female!!!) and new animals. And, like I said, almost all of the building pieces can be used in the medieval MOCs my husband and I make.

Great review, thank you.

Could you tell me the mechanism of the windmill, and could you see it being motorized by a LEGO battery operated motor?

The mechanism is a hand crank, but I can't speak as to whether it can be motorized as I've never done that before.

'What is the point of a windmill' lmao. You funny guy. Quite essential back in those days. Nice set, to be honest, if I wanted a mill I would build my own(which I am), so this set is all about the new pieces, and in that respect it's a great set. Great for afols as a source of intereting parts. I will deffinitly be buying a few of these.

This set is garbage. What is the point of the windmill? What is the point of the empty barn? The minifigures are lame. Are they supposed to be updates to MMV? Good review. I'm really not going to waste any money on this.

What is it milling? Air? Dust? I think it's both.

That's megabloks of you to make fun of me when you clearly read my post wrong. Megabloks, I tell you.

Good Job Captain BeerBeard way to take over the review of someone who diligently reviewed and took his time to take pictures when all you did was throw your opinions around. You took his hard work and threw it in his face with a few comments to his hours spent building the review. You should feel proud. You should have started your own review or post instead you decided to spit in the face of someone else and you still continue to pull up controversy. I was willing to talk to you like an adult before but now you are just acting juvenile. Start another post or are you not man enough to be on your own topic that you have to stand on others backs for your own amusement. I understand we do have differing opinions then express your opinions on a separate topic not one that is already set forward with a good review of the item.

Skimmed through the thread and I didn't see anything, but could someone show me a picture of the Mill Village Raid and the Medieval Market near each other? I'm curious as to how well they blend together...

They don't. Historically they shouldn't. They should be seperated.

I'm not making fun of you Beerbeard, everyone is entitled to their own opinions. But I do think you were a little harsh on this set, after all, we have been crying out for civilian sets for ages and it's nice that Lego has listened and is putting more out there. I know it's not as good as design as MMV but it does come with some great parts including new animals which are a great addition for mic building. Plus we can never have enough cvilian figs!

]'m sorry to e everyone. I'm coming out of my dark age at 29. Derfel, your mocs are the best stuff I've ever seen in in my life. Thats why I'm here. This is a nice set for the animals. I'm gonna get it. The truth remain's though. This set lacks in detail. I never was hostile to anyone, so respect me. I respect everyone that posted in response to my posts.

I got around to putting this set together over the weekend. It was really a delight!

The new animals are really great to have in my collection. I didn't realize until it passed through my hands just how small the goats and chickens are.

The little boy is a really cute little minifigure; I really love his face printing. The woman is nice too. I suppose I could have lived without the soldiers in this set, or one of them could have had a unique accessory or torso printing, but that's a minor complaint.

The play features of the mill and barn are neat. I didn't realize until I put the set together that you rotate the chicken (wind vane?) on the roof to crank the hook/lift. I guess a Lego person has to get way up on the top of the barn to work it? I think it's interesting that we have the old brick-built chicken in this set serving a mechanical function - it's kind of like a passing of the torch to the new chicken mold.

I had fun building this. I think it fits in pretty well with the Medieval Market Village. It is a bit less detailed than MMV, but you can always add some tiling to the roof to make it fit in better. The minifigures fit in with MMV with no problem at all, as do all the animals.

I really hope TLG designs more sets like this going forward.

I saw this set at TRU and was in awe. I'm getting back into legos so I was blown away by this set. I didn't buy it yet, but it is on my list! I love the non-castle castle theme!

I have just finished building this set and I feel it's the best Kingdom's set in the last two years, the mill is just fantastic with it's working mill stone and the weather-vein operates the winch - totally AWESOME !

Brick On !

First of all, nice review! Cant wait to get this set in combination with Blacksmith's attack, it will fit perfect.

My Blacksmith Attack is arriving tomorrow, and I'm looking forward to seeing how they look together. :classic:

I do hope we get sets like these in the next Kingdoms wave, whenever that may be...

Lucky you, I must wait 2 weeks :classic: I forgot to tell opinions of this great set. Lets see, if u ask me this is the best lego set ever made. I like MMV but I like better country themes. Like someone mentioned before me, MMV and this set cant be compared in aspect of pieces cause MMV has almost 1000 pieces more so its natural it will be more detailed. But on the other side, its normal that barn and mill have less details than house where poeple lives :classic: Great job LEGO, keep making this great sets and dont repeat motives from MMV and Village Mill Raid cause they are so unique.

This was an excellent review of a really lovely set. As soon as I saw this set for sale, I knew I needed to own it.

We bought one and at the last minute modified it just slightly for a display that was running that had a small gap. We ran the windmill off a power function medium motor, which is why we changed it around a little.

Oh and I especially love the goats and chickens, I nearly bought another set to get some more

For the price of a set vs price of those individual animals on bricklink, you probably could buy another set and make use of those extra pieces plus the animals. I like the way you think!

Just ordered this set on Bricklink-really excited to build it. For some reason I thought it came with 4 goats, but I was wrong. Probably going to combine this with Blacksmith attack.

Also, I noticed that on Bricklink some people have broken the set down into either the windmill or the barn. I might grab an extra windmill or two so I can flesh out the windmill that comes in the box, as it is a bit small. Shoot, I may just start construction of a whole rural medieval village! :D

This was the undoubtedly the best set of this years Kingdoms line. Like many castle fans i've been wanting Lego to explore the civilian aspect of the castle theme in more detail for years. Between this and the MMV Lego has delivered! Both the barn and the mill look very authentic and the inclusion of rare/unique pieces such as the pitchfork and animals adds to the value of the set. If Kingdoms is to come to an end next January it will be remembered fondly due to sets like this!
