Sheepo Posted May 7, 2011 Author Posted May 7, 2011 this is truly awesome the additional explanation and modelling of the functions really helps in appreciating the scope and attention to detail involved in building a model of this scale i see looking at the underbody shot that there are some small half bevel gears just rear of the front axle and just forward of the rear axle after trying to track back their function for a while i can only guess that they're there to prevent the axles they are on rotating? so that you could use long axles as the pivot for the lower suspension arms? the back ones i'm still not sure Thanks for write!!! These gears are to actuate disc brakes ;) You will can to see it in action in the video, I am working in it... Quote
Brickend Posted May 7, 2011 Posted May 7, 2011 You have done extremely well to get so much in with the constraints of Lego whilst following the technical aspects of the real machine. Have you considered attempting a true PDK gearbox? Do you think it would be possible with Lego? I think if it was, the clutches would be too large in scale terms to match the scale of any Lego wheeled car, but it would be an interesting, stand alone, engineering study. Quote
Sheepo Posted May 7, 2011 Author Posted May 7, 2011 I didn't understand you :( The car has a real dual clutch gearbox, two gearboxes joint(odd and even) and 2 clutches with alternative selection... or what do you mean?? Quote
Brickend Posted May 7, 2011 Posted May 7, 2011 (edited) The PDK gearbox has the clutches and gearboxes inline, not side by side. Much more compact and integrated in real life but obviously much harder to realise in Lego and the result would not be that compact. I was querying if such a gearbox could actually be built, maybe only in function and not in form, as they are a very interesting design. Edited May 7, 2011 by Brickend Quote
Sheepo Posted May 7, 2011 Author Posted May 7, 2011 Ahhhhh, ok, ok... I tried that but I falied :( Is very very complicated to built two concentic clutches. Maybe in the future I will try again ;) Quote
Meatman Posted May 7, 2011 Posted May 7, 2011 Sheepo, this may seem like a stupid question, but can this model actually move? I know that it is carrying a good bit of weight and I know that weight + dozens of plastic Lego gears don't get along too well. Quote
grohl Posted May 7, 2011 Posted May 7, 2011 Still waiting for the video, but I could not help myself to leave this creation without commenting. I love the number of functions and some details as the convertible rooftop and the front lights modelled out of pneumatic tubing. Probably the best Porsche. Quote
LEGO Train 12 Volts Posted May 7, 2011 Posted May 7, 2011 Super creation! Too complex for me... I like that big tires, and this beautiful shape Quote
Enilder Posted May 8, 2011 Posted May 8, 2011 Wow! One of best MOCs that I've seen recently! Any possibility of sharing your cad model (.mpd) files? Quote

The car can move, not fast but it can, more or less as my previous Veyron. Quote
Sheepo Posted May 9, 2011 Author Posted May 9, 2011 (edited) Sorry for the wait :(, but video is arrived!!! I hope you like it!!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZnGj4wxsNZY Edited May 10, 2011 by Sheepo Quote
Milan Posted May 9, 2011 Posted May 9, 2011 I knew this was something special! The best technic Supercar car. IMO it would be perfect if built in bricks, but studless here is really awesome, too. Quote
garson Posted May 9, 2011 Posted May 9, 2011 Sorry for the wait :(, but video is arrived!!! I hope you like it!!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZnGj4wxsNZY i have just seen the video and can attest this model is amazing i especially like the working disc brakes though the transmission still confuses me maybe an extra model to show us how it works? lastly the flat 6 engine seems dwarfed by the size of the model perhaps its time to move to the old 2 by 2 studded pistons? Quote
DLuders Posted May 9, 2011 Posted May 9, 2011 WOW, Sheepo, your Porsche is fantastic!  Your YouTube video shows all of its functions very well. Thanks for the Chassis and Axle Instructions too! Please tell us that you will never dismantle this masterpiece! The only thing missing are two of these fellows sitting in the Porsche, with big smiles on their faces: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZnGj4wxsNZY Quote
legolijntje Posted May 10, 2011 Posted May 10, 2011 I just watched the video I was like this; ( ) How can you get so much functions in a lego car of that size? I think this is the best lego technic car I've ever seen Quote
Sheepo Posted May 10, 2011 Author Posted May 10, 2011 [...] Please tell us that you will never dismantle this masterpiece! [..] I tell you, I will never dismantle this car!!! This car and the Veyron are my kids LOL Quote
Blakbird Posted May 10, 2011 Posted May 10, 2011 I tell you, I will never dismantle this car!!! This car and the Veyron are my kids LOL Those two cars are a couple of my favorite Technic MOCs ever. I am very pleased to hear that you are considering making a CAD file of the 911, because I will certainly build one. It needs to be on my shelf next to the other Supercar MOCS. Now if only you would do the same to the Veyron....... (at least it is possible since it still assembled). Quote

I also emailed you just because I am looking forward to the possibility of CAD files. I have recently started piggy-backing on some of Blakbirds work and both of your cars are at the Very top of the list. Ok, I lied, currently Grazi's Tow truck and Big Foot are higher although that is only because of the work Blakbird put in. Cheers to you! Edited May 10, 2011 by nychase Quote
nychase Posted May 20, 2011 Posted May 20, 2011 To avoid Siegfried calling me out for shamelessly bumping this fantastic MOC I actually have a legitimate question for Sheepo. I know that you are using the RC buggy motors which I have been researching a bit and I was wondering what kind of speed can the car actually get up to? They certainly have the power, so with the sequential gearbox I have to imagine you could get the thing moving pretty quick. I ask because I saw someone else's F1 Moc and it actually went pretty quick with that motor(I realize he wasn't dragging around another 3400 parts, 7 motors and two lithium batteries). Just thought I would ask if it hits 190mph...since you said the car was very much like the original Quote
Sheepo Posted May 24, 2011 Author Posted May 24, 2011 Sorry for the wait  Tha car move slow beacuse the weight is very high and the transmision is very complex, it move around 2-3 km/h. Quote
trekman Posted May 25, 2011 Posted May 25, 2011 Sheepo, I must applaud you for your excellent model. It is brilliant to see such features working so well within the realms of lego Technic. I can fully understand the limits of its actual speed given its weight, and plastic gears! A well presented video and other information. Well done. Quote
Duke Posted May 26, 2011 Posted May 26, 2011 I don't normally look in the technic forum at all and just thought i'd have a browse to see what sort of things people made. Watched your video and wow. Jaw droppingly good. Quote
Paul Boratko Posted May 26, 2011 Posted May 26, 2011 This is a really really really awesome model Sheepo... You certainly did A LOT of things right... Quote
Shasat Spacerider Posted June 4, 2011 Posted June 4, 2011 Sheepo, sir, could you show us how the brake system works? I'm very curious since I never would have thought it possible with Technic. Quote
ms09 Posted June 4, 2011 Posted June 4, 2011 Sheepo, I think it is time for you to send your C.V to Lego TLG. Quote
