Splat Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 The instructions for A and B model, are available on German Lego site. HERE. I have downloaded the instructions for the A Model, and compared it to my 'reverse engineered' attempt. It looks like I have about 51 differences (not including stickers)! I knew that the front and back were a bit off, and most of the other differences are things like me using 3L blue pins with friction, where the official instructions used 2L black pins with friction, etc. Obviously these pieces are buried deep in the model, so it was hard for me to work out from the few photos I had to work from. Overall, I still think that I did a good job. In fact, I think some of my differences are actually improvements! If you're interested, you can view a list of my differences here. Now I just need to find some time (and good weather) to take some video of my PF powered 8081. Hopefully soon... Quote
efferman Posted May 15, 2011 Author Posted May 15, 2011 i think that you are too hard in your self critic. you had definitely made a good job. Quote
Plastic Nurak Posted June 9, 2011 Posted June 9, 2011 (edited) Not so impressive, exactly as I expected. But is, of course, a good source of useful pieces. Edited June 9, 2011 by Plastic Nurak Quote

DLuders Posted September 5, 2011 Posted September 5, 2011 On his Brickshelf gallery, slfroden posted 24 pictures of his "Reverse Engineered [motorized Lego Technic] 8081 with PF". One could probably upgrade your set with these.... Quote
Paul Boratko Posted September 5, 2011 Posted September 5, 2011 I bought this for my wife a few weeks ago and she decided that she didn't like it, so she tore it down and brought all of the parts to me to add to my inventory and I couldn't help but notice that the 16 tooth gears were the older type... Does anyone have any idea how old this set really is? I know it just came out a few months ago, but considering the fact that the sets all switched to the new 16 tooth gear type(starting with the excavator last year), it was making me wonder if in fact this set was something that was possibly supposed to be released last year and that perhaps Lego was sitting on it waiting for time to pass... Has anyone else got the set with the new gears? Quote

mind storm Posted September 5, 2011 Posted September 5, 2011 Mine were old , and the 16 with clutch was old to , not the new smooth style ! Because they are 8110, and higher. Quote
mescalinum Posted September 6, 2011 Posted September 6, 2011 (edited) but considering the fact that the sets all switched to the new 16 tooth gear type(starting with the excavator last year) I own the 8043 excavator, and it has old 16t and 16t-clutch gears. I also bought 8070 supercar recently, and it has new 16t / 16t-clutch gears. maybe it is all about *when* they come out of the factory, not just the set number Edited September 6, 2011 by mescalinum Quote
Paul Boratko Posted September 6, 2011 Posted September 6, 2011 I am not talking about the new 16t clutch gears, I know that they are the newest upgraded part, just the regular 16t gears... They started showing up in the 8043 sets last year... I ordered 100 16t gears from Lego at the beginning of this year and the ones that I got were the new style... Just seems a little odd to see the old style in a set that was just recently released... Quote

Siegfried Posted September 11, 2011 Posted September 11, 2011 I missed this review... Anyway, I love your engine upgrade. It looked really weird with just a 4. It seems the 8081 should with this engine better called a "City SUV". Quote

DLuders Posted January 29, 2012 Posted January 29, 2012 (edited) thirdwigg/ thirdwig posted this -- "My latest model is a modification to the 8081 Lego set. After what Efferman has done by adding a V-8 and reworking the rear suspension, I also gave the model 4 wheel drive, while keeping the functions and look. The model has working steering, four wheel drive [with three differentials], and dual live axles [with Panhard Rods] and seating for four....Model has 6 studs of suspension articulation and steering. Bodywork is unchanged, and I added two rear seats." There are two photos on his Flickr photostream and six on his Brickshelf gallery. Edited February 11, 2012 by DLuders Quote
