David Thomsen Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 This is just a reminder that those of us waiting to pick this item up in several months time are still eager to read an in-depth pictorial review of this item... Quote
thewatchman Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 im still really on the fence with this kit. to be honest it looks tired and un-inspired. at least market street will look good next to it. Quote
L@go Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 Can any of you guys who've already got this set tell me how big the box is? I'm thinking it's probably the same size as the Maersk Train's but can anyone confirm it? Quote
cimddwc Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 Can any of you guys who've already got this set tell me how big the box is? I'm thinking it's probably the same size as the Maersk Train's but can anyone confirm it? The Pet Shop box is about 58x48x9 cm. IIRC the Maersk Train box (which I don't have anymore) was smaller. I might have made a review, by the way, if I had built it according to the instructions and not on a custom structure for my custom (and in this case sloped) streets... And I don't think it looks "tired and un-inspired" like thewatchman. It's just not that eyecatching big shiny jewel, but rather two little gems with their own special value... Quote
lightningtiger Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 I consider this set as a gap filler, I wished they did the same in the city range instead of fire stations and cop shops all the time ! I just wonder if there is a back story to this whole modular street 'JB' has come up with or has it been a spur-of-the-moment ah, I'll design that to go there ideas ? Brick On ! Quote

FishHead Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 I'm fortunate enough to have a Lego store within 25 miles of home. I bought this set, and I actually bought it last Tuesday. Our family has put it together and I must say, it is worth it's price. You get a bunch of elements, the colors are great, the detail is nice, and that you can split it up as two buildings is just a bonus. So, thumbs up. Go get it. Quote
AwesomeTaylor Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 im still really on the fence with this kit. to be honest it looks tired and un-inspired. at least market street will look good next to it. I saw it in person at the weekend and the blue looks beautiful on the walls, and the house actually looks pretty adorable. I can't wait to get it :) Quote
Rick Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 I too am much more impressed with the real thing. It looks much better than the pictures. More than the Fire Brigade and the Grand Emporium it is filled with little details and nifty building techniques. The small spaces are very well-utilized. The last two modulars were 'grand', with big interior spaces, but this one has the charm of the Green Grocer again. Not that it can top GG, but I certainly don't see it as 'less' than the other modulars. When you build it, you'll realize Jamie really has managed to surprise even the biggest modular fan again. And if I had to nit-pick about something, it would be the top floor of the town house. I would have preferred a top floor (oriented) like Market Street. Quote
Follows Closely Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 Green Grocer 10185 is still my favorite modular to look at, but this was by far the best build. Quote
SwissBrick Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 Received it today... Tried to make a small stop motion video. Since it's my first one and have no experience with video, please be kind to my poor skills. I'll try to do better for the next parts of this set... Will try to post pics on flickr and a better video soon. PS: I was quite disappointed when the first images came out, but now that I see it in real, I think that TLG has gone another step further with 10218! I hope they will produce more 16 studs wide modular buildings... I mean all modular fans will get them and the ones that the price had frightened may buy these smaller sets... and we might get more modulars/year...! Quote
L@go Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 The Pet Shop box is about 58x48x9 cm. IIRC the Maersk Train box (which I don't have anymore) was smaller. I just measured the Maersk box, and it's exactly the same. Nice to know the dimensions when I'm bringing it home from London in three weeks' time :) Quote

Nice to know the dimensions when I'm bringing it home from London in three weeks' time :) Sorry but, the Box for the Mearsk train is smaller then the box for the pet shop! The Pet shop box is the same size as the other Modular Building not an inch smaller! Quote
Brick & Mortimer Posted May 17, 2011 Posted May 17, 2011 Green Grocer 10185 is still my favorite modular to look at, but this was by far the best build. A good build is equally important to me as the looks of a set. This is why I like the modulars, it's not just "stacking bricks on top of each other". I consider the not-so-popular Fire Brigade a very good set, just because the build is clever, with a lot of nice techniques. On topic: still amassing funds, but I will definitely get the Pet Shop a.s.a.p. Quote

Aanchir Posted May 17, 2011 Posted May 17, 2011 i couldnt agree more the design style of fire brigade is amazing. I think the only reason the Fire Brigade is unpopular among AFOLs is that its architecture is the least consistent with the modular buildings. It is a very distinctly American building, whereas most of the other modular buildings have a more European design. Plus, its use of a vintage fire engine rather than a modern one makes it hard to fit into a display with other City sets or modular buildings. I built it on LEGO Digital Designer a long time ago and I have to agree its build is incredible, but for a collector of the modular buildings it makes sense that it's not too many people's favorite. How often did you take a photo? It appears that you might have taken a photo after each step or maybe two. I am looking forward to the remainder of your videos on the Pet Shop. Andy D Quote

The Pet shop box is the same size as the other Modular Building not an inch smaller! It appears I'm quite bad with numbers, and you're right, of course. I measured the Maersk box again and it's 38x48x9, not 48x58x9. There's a considerable difference there :) Quote

Thanks very much! The set is so beautiful, I just wish I had the money for it ! If I did get it, I'd move the kitchenette, the table and the chair into the 2nd floor of the townhouse, and the bed and lamp into the 3rd floor of the townhouse. Then I'd move the stuff that was originally from the townhouse's 2nd and 3rd floors into the Petshop's. I'd still like to see a review from an EB member, that way I could understand the commentary. Bachus Posted May 18, 2011 Posted May 18, 2011 Today I added these new modular buildings to my layout. They're awesome :) Quote
