Posted May 7, 201113 yr So, what technic set do you feel "handles" the best? What I mean is, take the 8865 test car for example. To me this is the best handling set ever. It has ackerman steering geometry and perfect suspention that is not too hard (like 8880) and not too soft (like 8466). Having the tyres visably bounce up and down over rough terrain and having the car roll slightly in the corners was always pleasing. Strange question perhaps, just curious as to what your thoughts are. Edited May 7, 201113 yr by allanp
May 7, 201113 yr The HOG positioning on the Race Truck (8041) means there isn't all that much weight on the rear end, which makes for an epic carpet drifter. Easily the most fun I've had with a Technic set in recent years.
May 7, 201113 yr 8480 Shuttle.. no other set has as much 'swooshability', when flying around the room! Especially with the red LED's lighting up the booster engines! ...But I'm guessing you're referring to more 'land' vehicles! ;) RB
May 7, 201113 yr I like the 8258, it's just so much fun to drive this large truck and the 8258 in particular feels very stabile and "tight" rolling on the floor and especially with a trailer attached there is hours of "professional" trucker fun guaranteed. Another one I really like is the technic F1 1:8 Ferrari racer. The Williams(studded) being nicer looking but the Ferrari(studless) being more swooshable because of a few key differences somewhere in the design. The sheer size of these F1's is really breathtaking and they practically dwarf all other supercars and the 8258 aswell. You can almost feel the insane grip in the wide tyres when you swoosh around the apartment and watch the independent suspensions work when they tilt while cornering. Only thing needed for even better swooshability would be hog steering. Neither the 8448 nor 8880 come close in handling or fearsomeness even if they may have some more realistic features over the formulas. Too bad i don't have the shuttle so i can't comment on it, but it sure looks like a lot of swooshing awesomeness.
May 8, 201113 yr I agree with you, set 8865 win first prize! Here you can find my five best sets of ever: 1st Set 8865 Supecar, with perfect shape, fantastic suspension system, and brilliant 90° engine solution (with old pistons) 2nd Set 8421 Mobile Crane, the best of every era: nice, huge and complex 3rd Set 8043 Excavator, all movements are motorized and the four motors are perfectly integrated in the main body 4rd Set 8851 Excavator, the best set with pneumatic system 5th Set 856 Bulldozer, simple but still efficient with its beautiful lines Thanks for this nice topic

Ah yes, the 8258 has alot of weight and feels solid, when "driving" it around the floor it feels like it could smash though any other technic set. This gave it a very authentic big heavy truck feel (would love to see a video of it smashing through an 8043 ) Weirdly I had the same feeling with the 8460, even more so than the 8421 even tho the 8460 is smaller and lighter. I guess it's mass was just more solid. 8880 can feel quite good in the corners I think, but it's suspention was just too hard. I guess this is authentic of supercars but it was still too much. 8448 was missing HOG steering, but i'de rather have a working steering wheel than HOG. 8880 and the Barcode truck (can't remember it's number) had both HOG and a working steering wheel, best of both worlds. May 8, 201113 yr i really like the 8292 cherry picker. it was the first set after my dark ages... it feels good, you can steer around, the functions worked great. it even gave me the light truck feel, not big and lumpy but usefull and easy to drive. the switching mechanisme is really easy to operate, not like in some other sets.. i think this is an underrated set, it is really well build in my opinion. regards nielsvdv
