Cap'n Kopaka Posted May 14, 2011 Posted May 14, 2011 I really dig Raw Jaw, Rocka XL, Witch Doc, and Waspix, but box art can be deceiving. Raw Jaw is really my favorite of the bunch but I have a strong feeling that he's not as good in plastic. That said, I'll probably be getting Bulk, Rocka, or Furno instead since I typically don't get bigger sets anymore. Although I'm really tempted to pick up Raw-Jaw if the reviews are good. Then again I have to catch up with 2.0... Evo is a must-have for me. Quote
Bundalings Posted May 14, 2011 Posted May 14, 2011 I thought Raw Jaw looked good in all the Toyfair photos. Quote
Baylego Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 I really want the Witch Doctor, but I might get Rocka or Rocka XL too. Quote
Algernon Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 I gotta admit that the Witch Doctor is pretty eye-catching. Quote
Pate-keetongu Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 Witch Doctor seems must-have to me. I think it will end up being MOCing parts, but it's a cool set neverthless. The head/Skull pieces look badass. I'll also get Waspix for parts (great quantities of limb connectors) and Bear-stringer. Btlorange/Black is a very cool color scheme and black armour pieces look useful. Unfortunately Stringer has only one black fist. Quote
Raven Brickroft Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 Really digging the Witch Doctor and Rocka XL. Quote
Darkness Falls Posted May 17, 2011 Posted May 17, 2011 Waspix. Several of him, if he proves to be as good as I hope. I love me some four-armed, triple-jointed legs designs, especially with the Heroes joints. I might get Stringer, too. Quote
Omicron Squad Leader Posted May 19, 2011 Posted May 19, 2011 (edited) All of 'em. They are a goldmine of parts and the sets themselves look amazing... Rocka 3.0 - 9/10. Nex 3.0 - 7/10. Stormer 3.0 - 7/10. Bulk 3.0 - 8/10. Stringer 3.0 - 9.5/10. Furno 3.0 - 6/10. Waspix - 7/10. Raw-Jaw - 9/10. Fangz - 8/10. Rocka XL - 8/10. Scorpio - 7/10. Witch Doctor - 9/10. Shasat Spacerider Posted May 29, 2011 Posted May 29, 2011 Am I the only one who likes Fangz? Witch Doctor looks amazing, an awesome successor to the Fire Lord. Didn't he have the Hydraxon/Von mask in the early pictures? Raw Jaw looks epic, but I don't really like Waspix or Scorpio. Rocka XL is just another Toa Mata Nui/Fire Lord. Quote

No, I don't recall any pictures where he had the Hydraxon mask, even though he did have one of his own mask in black on his staff in some preliminary box art. Fangz is cool, but he doesn't really excite me. I do like Rocka XL, though. Quote
The Crazy One Posted May 29, 2011 Posted May 29, 2011 (edited) I think I'm going to have to have a little rating session. Heros: Rocka: 9/10 Gold mixed with feline awesomness. Nex: 5/10 Orange mixed with not so feline awesomeness. Stormer: 7/10 Lacking in character, but still looks beastly. Stringer: 8/10 Big friendly panda. Bulk: 10/10 Silver wolf...Brilliant. Furno: 4/10 I think they spilt coffee on the blue prints to be honest. Villains: Raw-Jaw: 9/10 Oh wow... Waspix: 7/10 Decent enough, worth a multiple or two. Fangz: 9/10 Bulks best friend. Scorpio: 5/10 Somebody spat on the blue prints. Witch Doctor: 9/10 Spooky, and so brilliant. So basically, 8 and above I am definatley buying, 7s are probably and the rest are highly unlikely. No, I don't recall any pictures where he had the Hydraxon mask, even though he did have one of his own mask in black on his staff in some preliminary box art. He did have the black Hydraxon mask in some earlier box arts. I remember thinking; "Ooh, looks like Von Nebula got owned". Edited May 29, 2011 by The crazy one Quote

He did have the black Hydraxon mask in some earlier box arts. I remember thinking; "Ooh, looks like Von Nebula got owned". Wouldn't Rocka and Nex be better phrased as "awesome feline-ness" "not-so-awesome feline-ness"? Anyway, I agree with most of these ratings, except I'd give Furno and Waspix higher ratings and Witch Doctor and Fangz lower ratings. Fangz just doesn't strike my fancy, and there are oh-so-many things I dislike about Witch Doctor's design. Compared to some of the better BIONICLE titan designs (Brutaka's a personal favorite) or even to Fire Lord, Witch Doctor is a blocky mess. Fire Lord basically showed us the foundation of a good, strong Hero Factory "titan" set, albeit underdeveloped. Rocka XL seems to develop that design further, enhancing it to remove some of the awkwardness Fire Lord suffered from. But as far as I'm concerned, Witch Doctor took the design considerations in completely the wrong direction, creating a model that's heavily dependent on Technic and not remotely streamlined. I imagine that people's opinions of Witch Doctor as anything but a parts pack may change once reviews start to appear, since from some of the pics I've seen it seems as though his torso structure is extremely lacking and his posability is awkward. Of course, that also means that we'll start seeing plenty of completely-missing-the-point "revamps" that try filling out the flaws in the Technic-based torso with a denser Technic structure. Quote
dviddy Posted May 29, 2011 Posted May 29, 2011 I don't understand the love for RawJaw. Besides the Scorpion model, he looks the worst of the bunch to me. By a lot. Quote
The Crazy One Posted May 29, 2011 Posted May 29, 2011 @ Aanchir: Fair points. I am not really taking posibility into account when making those judgements, just my personal opinion on their design. I'll admit that I was very harsh on Furno but I do have a particular dislike for his design. @ Darth Vader: Really? I think he's stand out best. Quote
Aanchir Posted May 29, 2011 Posted May 29, 2011 I definitely like Raw-Jaw. He's simple, chunky, and has an expressive design. Basically some of the main reasons I like Hero Factory. He's not an advanced design by any means, but he has a lot of personality. If I could list one thing I dislike about him, it'd be his back plate. It doesn't make his body look very solid underneath, and the silver is kind of grating on the eyes. I'd have preferred a red or black back plate. His tail is also a little ridiculous. However, I'm really fond of his funny face, those tiny back legs, and those massive hands. Fangz my least favorite other than Scorpio and Witch Doctor. He has that same weird posture as Spinax, which (at least in the Toy Fair pictures) really doesn't seem to work for him. Maybe he'd look better if his legs were bent properly instead of stretched out straight so stupidly (please ignore the unintentional alliteration). His back plates don't really make him look very solidly-built. One thing that continues to bother me is that Fangz and Waspix alike use the old-style joints for their feet. In Fangz's case, it's logical, because his front and back feet match stylistically. In Waspix's case, though, why didn't they just use the clawed Ben 10 feet? Then again, I guess those ones wouldn't have really worked with the way his legs bend. Needless to say, though, I'm kind of disappointed that TLG got rid of the Glatorian head in favor of weird cladding-based heads without getting rid of the old-style joints entirely. It makes it seem like their priorities are a bit backwards. Quote
Front Posted May 30, 2011 Posted May 30, 2011 No, I don't recall any pictures where he had the Hydraxon mask, even though he did have one of his own mask in black on his staff in some preliminary box art. It was Von Nebula with the Bionicle mask. Quote
TheRedGuy Posted June 1, 2011 Posted June 1, 2011 (edited) It was Von Nebula with the Bionicle mask. I'm sure it was from a picture I've seen that I shouldn't post here. Now, I'm going to try to get all the summer sets with Scorpio being the last. But I'm getting Doc and Bulk first. I'm really crazy for Doc right now.. Edited June 4, 2011 by TheRedGuy Quote
wghost Posted June 19, 2011 Posted June 19, 2011 (edited) I don't understand the love for RawJaw. Besides the Scorpion model, he looks the worst of the bunch to me. By a lot. Well, it's just me, but I think it pulls off the gorilla design really well and combines it with a little more (although the tusks may seem awkward, I admit). On the other hand, the set which I find the least appealing is Fangz: it's like another quadrupedal feline/canine creature (like Spinax and Spikit) with few interesting parts, a completely unoriginal build and a simply bad-looking head in my opinion. Yeah, I think my main problem is the head, other than the aforementioned body structure. To be on topic, I think Raw-Jaw and Waspix are really cool, I consider to purchase these two sets. Raw-Jaw is quite similar to a Lava Ape from the good old Voya Nui Online Game (there's even a concept art which shows even closer design connection), and I plan to use the parts of Waspix to improve my Bitil set (but I think the yellow insect/bug idea is rather worn off by now looking at Bitil, Jetbug and Waspix). By the way, I have no problem with Witch Doctor and Scorpio either, it's just they are too expensive for me right now. The heroes, however, are total no: their structure is too similar to their 2.0 version and their animal design is hard to blend with older sets and Bionicle. Though I'm really into their weapons, they are clever and catchy. Too bad the whole lineup of them reminds me some animal-themed Super Sentai series. All in all, compared to Bionicle, I think the new building system principles are nice, but I'm not fond of the new aesthetics. Edited June 19, 2011 by wghost Quote
vexorian Posted June 19, 2011 Posted June 19, 2011 (edited) I would have liked Fangz if it had exo-force-based claws like the heroes in its feet. Or if they used the Ben 10 pieces that Waspix uses in its arms. I may still get one if I have the money/find it in a sale because some of the pieces used for the back seem interesting. The head may also be useful. Waspix seems like a purchase for me because of the Ben 10 pieces of which I have none currently, and them in black is a very neutral color. My current fear right now is that the 2.0 villains are very expensive in my store, for some reason, they didn't follow the usual price increase for 13.00 USD stuff. I hope the normal 3.0 villains are not so expensive. I may as well get only heroes this year if they are. It is odd because Fire Lord, for example turned out to be far less expensive than Von Nebula. So there is actually a very small price gap between Drilldoozer and Firelord. I am not getting the titans, because my Brother has decided to monopolize them. I was initially interested in Scorpio, but the newest pics and review make it look a little disappointing. I don't know. Edited June 19, 2011 by vexorian Quote
Refy L.S. Posted June 19, 2011 Posted June 19, 2011 I will definitely be getting: Waspix (I love those printed armor parts) Fangz (Trans Neon Orange!) Rocka XL Bulk 3.0 Stringer 3.0 Rocka 3.0 (for parts) Quote
Ceroknight Posted June 19, 2011 Posted June 19, 2011 Raw-Jaw and Rocka-XL are pretty awesome looking sets as well as the heroes However the last 'action figure' type lego was a Bionicle so I don't know if I'll e getting any.. Quote
dviddy Posted June 20, 2011 Posted June 20, 2011 I know for sure I'll be getting Raw-Jaw, Furno 3.0, Nex 3.0, Waspix, and Witch Doctor. But when they're released, I'd like all the Heroes, Rocka XL, and maybe Fangz for parts. I want multiples of the Heroes for MOCs. Especially Rocka. I have plans for his parts. Quote
krystalKING Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 I will for sure buy bulk 3.0 and rocka 3.0, and if I have the money: waspix, fangz, and rocka XL. (BUT I WANT BULK NOW! ) Quote
ToaAtraks Posted June 28, 2011 Posted June 28, 2011 (edited) Probably Witch Doctor, Waspix and maybe Rocka, 'cause he has gold. Maybe. Edited June 28, 2011 by ToaAtraks Quote
