Masked Builder Posted May 11, 2011 Posted May 11, 2011 Everyone else - doing at least all right so far. It's important to remember to not metagame. And unless the host tells you something is happening (i.e. someone is tied up in a back room) it isn't happening. This is why I like to play in real life. IE. in the room with the other players talking with them. I can see advantages to both ways of doing the game though.
Scorpiox Posted May 11, 2011 Posted May 11, 2011 (edited) I just got back [and the day was already over so I couldn't vote I just woke up and so much has happend! My son has been convicted, I tried my best to bring him up to be a nice boy, If he is scum then I have failed as a mother. If he is scum then we're doing well, if he isn't then we're in a bad way. Sirius Black Posted May 11, 2011 Posted May 11, 2011 I hate to say this, but looking back, I think that we made the wrong conviction. Think about it. If he was a mafia member, then wouldn't someone have tried to create/fabricate some evidence in his favor? His actions make me think that he was one, but everyone else's actions makes me think otherwise. Anyway, we'll see tomorrow where we stand.

Ro87n Posted May 11, 2011 Posted May 11, 2011 Lesson 4 Part 2 While the characters and relationships in this game are based on my comics, the roles and affiliations are not. Assuming that someone is town or mafia based on what they do in the comic or their occupation in the comic will not help you. Roles were chosen completely randomly. This is not just an advertisement for my comic. Besides, if the vote against Marcus was based on the comic, which is what I've been told, then you didn't read the entire first season, or you would know Marcus is the hero. Don't base any more votes off info or plots from the comic! That is metagaming and it will get you nowhere. About what comic is the voice from above speaking, something I should go read too?
Hinckley Posted May 11, 2011 Author Posted May 11, 2011 About what comic is the voice from above speaking, something I should go read too? Don't read it. I just said don't base any decisions on it. You quoted it. Aren't you even reading what you are quoting??? Why would you think you should go read it? You need to take time, slow down and read and pay attention to what I'm saying.

I agree with you Lily Lamb, we most likely have made a bad conviction, not necessarily wrong given with what we had to work with.
Hinckley Posted May 11, 2011 Author Posted May 11, 2011 If you guys made the right decision or not, the reasoning is the worst. You should never base decisions on a character's description or any outside influence, in this case the comic on which the game is based. This game is about learning who is lying through personal interaction. I would not make it so easy as to purposely make the mayor's employees the scum. That's not a game, it's a lame riddle. Sounds like you guys have learned this lesson. Again, this isn't to say Marcus is innocent or guilty, but you cannot make decision this way, regardless.
Ro87n Posted May 11, 2011 Posted May 11, 2011 Oh voice from above please don't take me wrong. I did hear what you said. But what I ment is if I should read it just for some entertainment and ease my mind some more.
Brickdoctor Posted May 11, 2011 Posted May 11, 2011 About what comic is the voice from above speaking, something I should go read too? Fabuland Housewives.

But what I ment is if I should read it just for some entertainment and ease my mind some more. Well, duh, of course you should. Especially since I wrote it. Fabuland Housewives And you can call me Hinckley in the discussion thread. And nobody should be posting in character in this thread or talking strategy. Even the conversation about if you made the right decision should be saved for Day 2. Thanks.
Rumble Strike Posted May 11, 2011 Posted May 11, 2011 I just want to apologise for missing off the colon from the vote command. I was so concerned about getting it in bold that I missed it off!
Masked Builder Posted May 11, 2011 Posted May 11, 2011 The first day is always the hardest one to convict someone on. In some of the games I've played we've played it where we didn't have to convict anyone the first night.

In some of the games I've played we've played it where we didn't have to convict anyone the first night. It's a mixed bag, from a theory point of view, it allows everyone to contribute before the first night actions. But on the other hand there are no night actions to base the first conviction off of. I'm sure things will get easier with day 2, which I just can't wait for Hinkley to put up.
Scorpiox Posted May 11, 2011 Posted May 11, 2011 (edited) Oh sorry. Can't wait for day 2, this mafia is fab Hinckley! Edited May 11, 2011 by Scorpiox

Ro87n Posted May 11, 2011 Posted May 11, 2011 I'm sure (still) having a hard time with this. I'm more a visual guy, but hey I'm greatful for the pictures we are getting and that I'm getting a chance (alot of chances!) to learn how this game is played, but also need to work on myself (or take some medicine for it)
MacK Posted May 11, 2011 Posted May 11, 2011 Well day one is over, and I have to say I'm loving the narrative Hinckley. Will day two be up in 24 hours(upon the closing of the day thread)?
Brickdoctor Posted May 11, 2011 Posted May 11, 2011 (edited) Well day one is over, and I have to say I'm loving the narrative Hinckley. Will day two be up in 24 hours(upon the closing of the day thread)? At this time, since Marcus's affiliation won't be revealed until Day 2, those with night actions can PM them to me now. You have 36 hours to get them in to me, but the sooner you get them in, the faster Day 2 can start. If you do not use your role PM to send your night actions, they will not be counted! If there are 36 hours to turn in night actions, Day 2 can't start in 24 hours. (unless of course, all night actions are turned in quickly and Hinckley already has the Day 2 pics ready to go) Edited May 11, 2011 by Brickdoctor
Fugazi Posted May 11, 2011 Posted May 11, 2011 I wish I were playing! This game is off to a great start!

I'm more a visual guy, but hey I'm greatful for the pictures we are getting and that I'm getting a chance (alot of chances!) to learn how this game is played, but also need to work on myself (or take some medicine for it) But what do you need to be visual? There's the mafia handbook we've linked you to 100 times which explains the roles...with pictures. I've told you already there aren't any clues in the game's pictures, so being visual isn't going to help you. You need to read what is being said. If you can't do that, you're going to fail. If you're still looking for pictures, you have a profound misunderstanding of how to play a mafia game. If there are 36 hours to turn in night actions, Day 2 can't start in 24 hours. (unless of course, all night actions are turned in quickly and Hinckley already has the Day 2 pics ready to go) It could start earlier if everyone had their night actions in...but so far that has not happened.
Brickdoctor Posted May 11, 2011 Posted May 11, 2011 Did we seem this n00bish to the advanced players during Isla Paradisa? (not to say this is a bad group of students; just curious)
Tamamono Posted May 11, 2011 Posted May 11, 2011 Did we seem this n00bish to the advanced players during Isla Paradisa? (not to say this is a bad group of students; just curious) I've been wondering that as well. No, this group is doing well. In my experience (which isn't much yet ), mafia is a pretty difficult game, and it takes time to learn. However, while Alopex's mafia handbook is quite useful, there's still something to be said for reading through mafiawiki a few times.
JimBee Posted May 11, 2011 Posted May 11, 2011 Did we seem this n00bish to the advanced players during Isla Paradisa? (not to say this is a bad group of students; just curious) No, the performance by most of you was quite impressive, but I don't think how much of a noob you look like really matters. Everyone has got to learn sometime, even if someone is completely missing the concept of mafia at the beginning. I'm sure everyone who makes an attempt to learn the ways of mafia will turn out to be a good player eventually. Like Hinckley's said numerous times, there are several good sources for learning out there, including the new "lesson" concept that is being incorporated into this Mafia School game. By the way, I'm referring to all mafia players in general, and no one specifically. The players/students of this game aren't the only ones learning.
