Yes, I was a blocker. But I found that saying I was an investigator would be plausible if I was 'sleeping' with players to block. It was easy for me to 'clear' players.

It worked out really well for you considering those you "cleared" were some of your staunchest supporters in the final days. My mistake was in inferring that your ability had to be converting somehow. Probably made it seem to them that if they hadn't been converted then you must be innocent. I didn't think about you being a blocker because I hadn't really considered you actually forgetting to use your ability. I thought it had to be a limited use sort of thing.

It also really helped you that a real investigator never came forward to dispute it with you.

*Krista's Arrival. Krista was the one who stabbed the lifeguard, by the way. If you'd heard what she had said, she was staying with the lifeguard, but she really wasn't. It's also odd that when the lifeguard was found, she was wounded.

Hey, I did! Admittedly, I managed to relate this to the mystery figure we saw all over the place, and her being the one who crashed, but in essence I got it!

I won't lie, I'd like to host another mystery game ASAP. However, I'll have to wait behind Dragonator and Shadows, who have the next slot, before I can do this. I was also working on a plot halfway through this, so that's all done. However, this is only self-promotion.

Would you perhaps supply a teaser?

Well, I liked the game pretty much, although I was perfectly clueless for some times, although being one of the baddies. I think I srewed up at the last two chapters. But at least I won (though being killed by Garrison :hmpf_bad:).

I didn't really dislike the mafia parts of the game, they at least helped to figure some things out and brought some accusations into the game.

And btw, was Frankie neutral?

Wait, so my character did have a bulletproof vest? Was this a one-time only thing? Because I don't recall being told that.

And while I'm not going to complain about my loss, I do think that the story affected me as well. I know that if I was a Townie, I would think that the host would make the story's Commie hunter a Commie just to throw everyone off.

And finally, no one's answered my question yet: Did you guess/know I was a Commie based on something I did or something Draggy did?

As for the investigator, maybe it was a lack of posting that made him look guilty. Certainly when both Shadows and Draggie weren't posting, and only one was replaced, it made them stick out, but that could just be me looking at it with the knowledge he was guilty.

To be perfectly honest, that's what stood out to me. As I've said, I had suspicious on Krista (for being a newcomer) and Delores (mainly for her involvment in Chapter 12, not her backstory) but when I saw two people mod-killed for inactivity and Dieter doing fine, by the Investigator merely replaced, I had my doubts.

I think Hinckley may be the only one able to get away with mod-killing Shadows. If I were running the game, I might be hesitant in mod-killing mods too.

But replacing Draggy did seem like a hint added to Shadows' mysterious appearance late in the game with his accusation. I don't think you did anything necessarily wrong, Brickdoctor. You did very well being thrown in there late in the game.

A general comment now Bob, and I really don't want this to sound negative, because it's a genuine question. I can't remember how this was dealt with in previous Mystery games, but you chose to have the players 'declare' their PM conversations. It does make sense because in real life players would have been aware most of the time of private conversations happening within the group. I don't know how scrupulously this rule has been obeyed, but it seems to me like there was very little PM going on during the game. As opposed to Mafia games, it didn't seem to me like townie groups were forming, or that action results were shared that much -- although this happened in the public thread during the last few chapters. Did you expect this, and do you think this has had a negative impact on the town performance?

I wasn't aware that I made it a rule that people had to declare their PM conversations, certain people just did. I also think there were unreported conversations going on, especially between Def and Dragonator, Admiral Ron and Cralegoboy, and others. I don't think it had that much of an impact, and I also think that the townies didn't really try to hide anything.

And btw, was Frankie neutral?

No, he was a loyal American, although just angry with the Government. He was originally supposed to be the Anarchist, and that's the catalyst that forced everyone onto the Lakota. I changed it, though, partly because he wasn't supposed to be that psychotic.

He had a "Secret" Bulletproof vest, mostly because I figured he would be a target due to his character. His character was supposed to randomly accuse people.

I was initially apprehensive about replacing Dragonator, because he was the Games Moderator. The reason that I didn't replace Shadows was because he PMed me saying that he would try to participate more. Admittedly, it is a shame that Brickdoctor was thrown into the position he was in, however, I didn't want to kill off one of the communists. See the point I made on the previous page.

Also, I must confess that Dolores was a hard role to be given, which is why I gave the role to Def. Hosts are supposed to "Randomly Assign" roles, but in all honesty, the harder roles are given to the more experienced players. At the time, Def was doing stellar in Eurodina and he had played well in previous games. I think he did an excellent job keeping suspicion off of him for much of the game, one of the reasons why he won. He had everyone (but two people) convinced that Dolores was simply a "wrong place, wrong time" type of person.

Now it's time for my summaries of the players:

Characters:

Government Workers

mayorian.jpg

Ian Bradford (Mayor) played by Walter Kovacs

Where did you go? You were doing so well up until the last few chapters, then you just disappeared. I thought you were certainly going to win the game, but you stopped playing.

tcm.jpg

Will Ackerson (Town Councilman) played by iamded In the PM, you told me that you didn't give your full attention to the game, but I think you played quite well. Your character was a vanilla town role, and I'm perplexed as to why people thought you killed Laura Jefferson.

judge.jpg

Alan Cain (Judge) played by JCC1004

You participated sparingly, but whenever you could which was good. Despite what the narrative says, I didn't kill you because you didn't participate in the building contest. Lord Arjay did.

chief.jpg

Ryan Phelps (Police Chief) played by JimButcher

I still feel bad about you. You were playing so well, and then Def and I got you voted off. However, you slapped me back into being a host, and I think you provided an excellent lesson for me. Overall, in the Chapters you played in, you performed well.

cop1.jpg

Tim Fields (Police Officer) played by CallMePie

You were attentive and usually always protected. I think you played very well, and I am a bit upset that you lost.

cop2.jpg

Louis Harrison (Police Officer) played by Brickme You disappeared because of power failures in your state, which was sad because you were initially playing very well. There's not much for me to say other than that, your character didn't really do anything memorable.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Working Class

chefdieter.jpg

Dieter Schneider (Chef) played by Shadows You were doing so well in the earlier chapters, then you disappeared. Then you came back in full force near Chapter Nine I believe. Then you disappeared. Then you came back once in Chapter Fourteen, and quite frankly delivered the death blow to Inspector Liebenston. Many people thought he was merely incompetent, not a spy. Overall, I was a bit disappointed in your participating, especially because you seemed very eager in the beginning, as you even took the time to make a new banner for me.

lawyer.jpg

Patrick Jefferson (Lawyer) Played by Professor Flitwick You played very well, I think, for your first Mystery. You fit into your character easily, protecting your family just as the role called for. I especially liked your reaction in Chapter Fifteen, it was very moving.

dockworker.jpg

James Falzone (Dock Worker) played by CorneliusMurdock You were one of the stars of the game. You entered having never played a Mafia or Mystery, and you ended up winning the game. I laughed at your funny comments and stories in the start of the game, but that soon disappeared when the situation got serious, which I really liked. Either that or you forgot what your role called for, but just let me think the former. You hit nearly everything on the mark (except for the mutant zombies), and I'm proud of your victory.

doctor.jpg

Simon Lloyd (Doctor) played by Burman

You played somewhat in the first few chapters, but then you dropped off the radar and I was forced to kill you, as there were too many players and I didn't really want to keep a silent non-participating one around.

nurse.jpg

Julie “Princess” Parker (Nurse) played by The Crazy One

At times I had to humor your "bin searches" and I was somewhat disappointed when your character died. The Nurse was relatively uncalled for, until the moment when an autopsy had to be done, and you were killed. It's somewhat ironic I think.

farmer.jpg

Alan Simmons (Farmer) played by Fugazi

You are also one of the stars of the game. You were attentive, always playing, you got the most points out of everyone, and you also tied with Cornelius for the most posts every chapter. I'm very proud of you, especially because you were given a rather easy role, as when you entered, you had not played a mystery game, or a mafia game. In retrospect, I believe you could have even handled a harder character.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Other

dolores.jpg

Dolores Jefferson (Housewife) played by Def You were given a tough role, the toughest I think, and yet you still won in the end. There were times when your participation would falter, but you still managed to post at least twice a chapter. Well done, I'd say.

gloria.jpg

Gloria Jefferson (Student) played by Admiral Ron You did a good job, albeit a bit overzealous at times (jumping into the water in Chapter Two, throwing hammers). Overall, it was rather funny. I think you took advantage of your student role a bit too much, as you used your "knowledge" of Economics, Auto Shop, Engine Repair, etc.

stevie.jpg

Stevie Jefferson (Student) played by Legonater You played very well, and towards the end of the game I had to humor you with a false wall. It took you four months, but you finally found that wall. I'm impressed.

retiredwife.jpg

Valerie Jenkins (Housewife) played by Sok117 I'm sorry that you didn't stick around for that long. Your character was killed because Dolores had a fifty/fifty shot of killing Mayor Bradford. In the end, she missed (I flipped a coin, which is one of the lamer tricks), and your figure was standing behind Bradford.

retiredsalesman.jpg

Ralph Jenkins (Retired Salesman) played by Cralegoboy I liked your character. The emotional outbursts, the way you handled your wifes death, and your pro-activeness, asking me in advance for a description of your house. In the end, I had to give you a vigilante role (since we didn't have one), and you used it excellently, targeting two communists.

huac_man.jpg

Matt Liebenston (HUAC Investigator) Played by Dragonator

I'm a bit disappointed with your performance. Your character role called for you to openly accuse people, yell at them, over-zealously search things, and you didn't do any of that. Instead, you "sat around and took notes." I know you were trying to lay low, but in the end, that's what got your character nearly convicted, and what caused Brickdoctor to lose.

huac_man.jpg

Matt Liebenston (HUAC Investigator) Played by Brickdoctor

I threw you into a very hard position, and although you tried to fight your way out, there wasn't much hope for you. I'm impressed, especially since you've only been in one mafia game, and I think I was right seeking you out. I hope to see other games from you.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

New Arrivals

captted.jpg

Ted Harding (Captain of the Lakota) Played by Capt.JohnPaul Your accusations of Stevie are primarily what got you in trouble, but I think you played quite well. I'm sad that your character died, especially because you were doing a great job.

captwife.jpg

Jackie Harding (Ted's Wife) Played by Captain Becker I'm not sure what you were doing, but you initially got the role, confirmed with me, then disappeared off the face of the Earth without even one post in the Discussion Thread, or the Chapter Threads. After three chapters, I contacted you and you said you didn't have an interest and you were sick, so I killed you off.

shiphand.jpg

Frankie Daly (Deckhand) Played by Captain Genero You were another star of the game, and it's a shame that you died. You threw so much suspicion off of yourself, hiding the fact that you couldn't write in English (even though you could), and you played excellently, perfectly fitting into your role. I am very proud of you.

img_0455.jpg

Maxwell Touns (Congressional Aide) Played by Mrlegoninja You didn't really last long, but for the chapters you were here you played good. There's not much else to say.

img_0456.jpg

Captain Pete Garrison (Special Forces Captain) Played by Lord Arjay I'm sad your character died, especially because you did a good job. You didn't do a good job picking who to kill, but it was alright. Excellent performance, I'd say. I'm not sure why people thought you were a communist. By the way, he was a Special Forces Captain posing as National Guard. All of the soldiers there were.

img_0457.jpg

Krista Halle (Farmer) Played by Peanuts I think you did a good job, you posted regularly, didn't do anything to make yourself look suspicious, and overall did a good job. Well done, there's not much more to say.

Night actions will be up later.

The one that I didn't like about the game was the winning condition, but that's just me. Thinking about it, it does fit well in the mystery game. It prevents those who just protected themselves the whole time () from winning by default. I look forward to your next game, whether it be from the sidelines or the game itself.

I'm flattered. I personally think I didn't play so well, and didn't play my role the way I was supposed to. But then again, I didn't think I played that well in Isla Paradisa, and there were players there calling me 'driving force of the Town' and stuff like that.

Thinking about it, it does fit well in the mystery game. It prevents those who just protected themselves the whole time () from winning by default.

Which is why I think protectors shouldn't be allowed to protect themselves.

Ah, so you were humoring me there. Oh well default_laugh_new.gif .

I kind of find it funny looking at Ron's notes. I had always thought I'd played Stevie as more overzealous than anyone else. And, if you look closely at Chapter 2, I had sarted off doing the same student thing, but quickly dropped that in favour of the headstrong teen.

To be honest, that was my first question. I didn't expect a yes, since yea, I thought it would be a bit unfair. But hey, thank god I did. I'm still unsure if there was an attempt on me in the last action chapter.

I personally enjoyed playing my character, a war veteran/cop. The turning point in my character, I think, was gunning down Lloyd. That was fun.

I found it really hard to play mine, as I didn't really know how to react on certain situations and discoveries, which is why I often said nothing. But I think it was rather easy to fly under the radar during the investigations, as I didn't really have to do anything but looking at every place in other people's houses. I didn't have to be afarid of something that would incriminate me or any other commie, as my and Matt's houses weren't able to be searched and Dolores' one had already been when I arrived, so I could just write frequently and play town without having the problem of talking nonsense, as I would in mafia games.

Oh, and I don't like people using their night actions on themselves either. I think it's just half the fun if you find out your sanity by investigating yourself or are untouchable as you are always protected by yourself.

Btw, I enjoyed the narrative pretty much, and the conclusion was great. :classic: (except for my death :look:)

Thanks for the kind words, Bob. The game was a lot of fun, especially when we had people were participating. With the long stories, I tried to tie them in somehow into the conversation and as the game went on there seemed fewer opportunities for my character to go off on a tangent that didn't make him look uncaring about the seriousness of the situation.

So all the cops could protect? Funny that brickme was the only one really not protecting himself and he was the one I thought was a communist. He even protected me one night it seems. So sorry about that brickme.

One question, how did they get the body of Laura Jefferson out of the morgue? None of the communists would have had official access.

Thank you for the kind words as well Bob, I admit I did kinda overuse the student idea, though I tried to stop as we went along

And I am sorry everyone for claiming Def was a loyal citizen, I thought that cralegoboy was a communist after the attack on her, though he was the vigilante.

Though, I did try to be overzealous, simply because of the gravity of the town's situation. I figured, "Hey if I was in this time, and we were threatened with annihilation, I would do anything I could to find the communists"

Thank you very much. I made several small mistakes (writing notes in english without disguising my handwriting, almost forgetting to make sure no english was in my cabin) but I guess that I was able to cover them up fairly well.

Oh and one more thing, I also think it's a shame I dieddefault_tong.gif.

Dolores sneaked in using her cunning spy abilities. Duh.

Wait, Draggy could kill and investigate? And I thought my frame was unsuccessful?

Only on the night he was infiltrating the base, and only until he found the other communist, Dolores. I also guess I inserted the wrong thing too in the night actions list.

Thanks for the fun and entertaining game, Bob! I had a lot of fun fleshing out my character, and it was fun to react to my Wife's death. I can't wait to sign up for your next mystery! Here's the Role PM:

-Ralph Jenkins

retiredsalesman.jpg

You’re a retired salesman. You had a long and prosperous career of selling appliances, and you have since retired and are now living with your long time wife, Valerie. You live in a small house, with a small garden you upkeep with your wife. You live next to the farm, which causes you to be friends with your neighbor, Alan Simmons.

You love your wife dearly, and will do anything to defend her.

Remember, just because a chapter has concluded, that does not mean that the day is over.

You have no night actions.

Please place your avatar either in your avatar or in your signature. Please also confirm in the confirmation thread.

But later, I got this PM, giving me the night action of killing; I was very impressed with the narrative, it was a lot nicer than just sending me a PM saying I could kill.

You write silently in your journal, sitting on the seawall, watching the others bicker and argue with each other. You recall from yesterday, the image of your wife being cut down in front of your eyes, you helpless to do anything. You then remember waking up alone for the first time in many years, how you were barely able to make your way to the meeting. You then recall how divided the town is today, how a conviction will not end well.

You decide that you must take it upon yourself to decide. Every night you may pick one person that you wish to kill. This person may not be from the Government, however.

Choose wisely, and good luck!

Ralph Jenkins (Retired Salesman) played by Cralegoboy I liked your character. Thanks for the praise! I hoped I lived up to your expectations of this Character. Ralph has been a part of me for half a year, it's going to be odd to not come on after my day is over and play him! Thank you for the closure of me putting flowers on my wife's grave, it was very satisfying.

Great and fun game, I'd play it again in a heartbeat!

Funny but true. I keep wanting to delete the g out of every word I post that ends with -ing.

I think I leave my character in a good place, though, so it's somewhat satisfying. I think a lot of the characters evolved nicely throughout the course of the game. I think Bob deserves most of the credit for coming up with them. He also was very good about letting us bring ourselves into them and not stopping us when we wanted to take them in unforeseen directions. Most of the time they were even worked back into the plot nicely without seeming thrown in. It was a very memorable experience.
