Rumble Strike Posted May 13, 2011 Posted May 13, 2011 There have been multiple reports that they WILL NOT be posting these either :( That'll be a real shame as I sent away for the Mirror promotion. That one they had run out of each figure by the time I went from work. If that's the case for this Sun promotion it's just the weekend two for me, as I have time to get them.
simonjedi Posted May 13, 2011 Posted May 13, 2011 Already beaten dude: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=55399 but thanks anyway! The Mirror gets points for being anti-tory and no money goes to Rupert Murdoch. It's still terrible though. Lesser of 2 evils TBH.
Gregorovich Posted May 13, 2011 Posted May 13, 2011 It's nice to see that some the formally exclusives sets are now available over there. Share the wealth. Out of curiosity, how many tokens (or newspapers) do you need to redeem one set? Previously, it's just been that one token for that specific set to get it. Unfortunately they're only available for one day . I'm glad that the Jack is available on the weekend, as I don't have time to do go out during the week !
Dunjohn Posted May 13, 2011 Posted May 13, 2011 Ah, I was looking in the wrong forum! I was wondering why nobody seemed interested.
pedro Posted May 13, 2011 Author Posted May 13, 2011 Anyone know if it's WHSmiths in Scotland as the last one with the Mirror was Co-op & TRU (I'm hoping it's Co-op) I think it's RS McColl newsagents that do it in Scotland - at least that's where I got my promo sets when I was visiting last year.
Legoless Posted May 13, 2011 Posted May 13, 2011 Think of it this way - You're buying some polybags for 30p, and it comes with some free toilet paper Sounds about right! Wish they'd run a promo like this in The Guardian...
Donut Posted May 14, 2011 Posted May 14, 2011 Previously, it's just been that one token for that specific set to get it. Unfortunately they're only available for one day . I'm glad that the Jack is available on the weekend, as I don't have time to do go out during the week ! Thanks for answering my question. I also like the Captain Jack polybag, that would be my first choice if I am given the opportunity. I think it's really neat that the newspaper companies are providing this promotion. Here in the US, my local newspaper company is downsizing because of reduced viewership. I think the closely thing we had to promotional giveaways was through cereal box purchases.
WhiteFang Posted May 14, 2011 Posted May 14, 2011 Heard this second-hand last night and I see it on their website now (just barely - a small front-page ad half-way down). Seems to be a voucher thing similar to the Daily Mirror promotions, except that the stuff is claimed through WHSmith or Toys'R'Us. Neither of which chains operates in the Republic, so I don't know if I'll be able to get them. The models include an X-wing and a Pharoah's Quest car driven by Jake. Dunno why it was moved from the Mirror to the Sun. I mean, the Mirror was bad enough.... I moved and merged your topic in here.
TenorPenny Posted May 14, 2011 Posted May 14, 2011 As someone hailing from Liverpool, I unfortunately can't purchase the Sun. Even if it is for Lego!

Last year it was Scotmid & Co-operative which was ideal as I ended up with a load of them! This time it is WHSmith & TRU only which means I won't be so fortunate Edited May 14, 2011 by escortmad79
charlieboy Posted May 14, 2011 Posted May 14, 2011 As someone hailing from Liverpool, I unfortunately can't purchase the Sun. Even if it is for Lego! Have to ask why not? Its defo the better paper between it and the Mirror,if nothing else page 3 is worth the 30p price tag alone! Im quite lucky myself,a new WHSmith has opened up next to my local newsagents,in one for the paper(Smiths dont sell them at this store)then pop next door for the sets, only 5 mins walk from my house too!

As a Liverpool supporter, I feel the same way. Should have seen the look my Dad gave me when he saw me with it. The paper has its own section on this Wikipedia page and is still a foul word in that city.
Rumble Strike Posted May 14, 2011 Posted May 14, 2011 (edited) The X-Wing polybags were going very quickly, probably why my TRU is very strict at enforcing the one toy per voucher per customer rule. Edited May 14, 2011 by Rumble Strike
Jed Posted May 14, 2011 Posted May 14, 2011 I had loads of trouble getting 2 copies of the Sun today, and when I got to Stockport at about 3pm, both WHS and Toys'R'Us have been cleaned out of the X-Wings. Bah. I'm supposed to be getting 1 for my mate today and tomorrow, and he's getting them for me the rest of the week. Mission failed. Guess I'll head down to Toys'R'Us at 10am tomorrow to make sure I get 2 otherwise he'll probably never speak to me again. Anyone know if they're enforcing one-per-customer at Toys'R'Us Stockport?

Coincidence - I just got off the phone from them. The woman said I would be able to get as many as I wanted, then I totally blew it by asking what would happen to any spares - she asked 'Paul' who said there wouldn't be any spares due to high demand and that from tomorrow there was 1 per customer. I will have to go to 2 toys r us shops with my family of 5 to get the 9 for people in the US and 1 for me!
SilentMode Posted May 14, 2011 Posted May 14, 2011 I was fortunate enough to get hold of more than one X-Wing today... although being in London was a huge advantage. I would never in a million years otherwise buy a tabloid newspaper! Having had a look at the other models, the only ones of interest are the one tomorrow (mainly for the bottle) and the Ninjago set with the phoenix.
Peppermint_M Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 Ooo naughty. I just saw the advert and the fireman figure is a clone brand body (LEGO never made a red fire man). I do hope I can get the set today.
Trent Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 I am really irritated about this promotion. There isn't a Toys R Us in my county, and all of the WHSmiths in my county are shut on a Sunday. As the promotion is collect on the day only, I'm not able to get Jack. I have to question what the point is in a store taking part in a promotion that they can't fulfil? If WHSmith has stores that aren't open on a Sunday, then they should hand the promotion to ASDA or Tesco or something instead. I'm really disappointed.

In my experience of previous promotions, some WHSmiths will give out the Sunday bag on a Monday (if they were shut on the Sunday). It is not a consistent policy, and seems to be the whim of the manager how they organise this, but it is worth asking tomorrow.
Trent Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 (edited) Ah, thank you - I will try my luck tomorrow. Edited May 15, 2011 by Trent
Rumble Strike Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 What a shambles! I went to Swindon TRU with my voucher at 11.15 (the store opens at 11) because yesterday I'd not had a problem getting the X-Wing just after opening time. The car park was as busy as I have ever seen it - and I've done pre-Xmas shops there! The harrassed customer service girl told a bunch of us queueing that they'd run out of Jacks (bear in mind this is just 15 minutes after opening) and said that there had been queues outside the store from 8:30! Madness! I was going to ask a family member to get the remaining ones from the promotion as I am in work, but now I am not going to bother. Not worth the hassle.
amity498 Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 Have to say that is crazy, to be sold out by 11.15. I managed to get 2 jacks( I did give 2 vouchers). Sadly I missed out on the x wing yesterday so a quick look on eBay and I managed to find someone selling the whole set of 7 for £10. So I got lucky I think slot of these mini sets are getting snapped up by people who are looking to make a quick buck from eBay hence you had issues at 11:15

It was also very busy at WHSmith's in Swindon Town Centre , I got there at 10:30 (opening time) and there was a massive queue outside, and when they opened it was manic getting the papers, everyone was grabbing them, with one person getting about twenty papers. I managed to get a few though then they announced they were sold out of papers, but they still had the sets, so a few minutes later thay had to restock the shelves with News of the World's. Despite all of this I still managed to get mine and I reckon that WHSmiths had sold out by about 10:45 or 11:00 at the latest. BTW, I haved reviewed the set (30131) in the Pirates forum. ~buddy~
Rumble Strike Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 Don't rub it in buddy! Kidding, it's a nice review. I didn't know you were a Swindon lad too.

I find it odd that the mini X-wing is the NEW promotional piece when it was on sale in the USA for months. I personally have like 5 still, and I sent about 20 to a Sith Lord on this site. The way TLG makes things promotional in some area's and regular sets in others really baffles me.
