Fbrick Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 I saw someone in bricklink who sells 143 of today's 30131 set, I wonder how did he got all of those?
RubeusHagrid Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 I managed to get 10 today - Toys R Us had run out, but W H Smith just around the corner had a boxful left! I just handed over 10 vouchers and they gave me the sets no questions asked - so much for 1 per customer!

My friend can't even manage to get the paper because it is already sold out, so no Jack Sparrow for me :( Edited May 15, 2011 by Fbrick
Mr Hobbles Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 The only one I was bothered about was the X-Wings yesterday as I plan to make a Death Star trench run diorama. I went to WH Smith here in Dundee around about 5pm and there were still plenty copies of The Sun. Picked up 3, took them to the counter, asked for the toys, and she handed them over (From a massive box that was still over half full) at the same time without taking the coupons. Realising this, I walked out, ripped out the coupons, went upstairs, and traded them in for a further 3. :) I think the Jack Sparrows today were more popular though as I needed to go into WH Smith and noticed they had run out of Jack's and were giving out the remainders of yesterdays X-Wings instead.
escortmad79 Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 (edited) I went to Dunfermline this morning & had to queue just before opening time. I picked up 5 copies of the NOTW, my missus got 3. Took them to the counter, got the Lego & walked out with 8 vouchers!! Looking to pick up another 8 tomorrow from my local Smiths as that branch is shut on Sundays. Also managed to get another 2 X Wings as I'd managed to keep yesterdays vouchers. The woman that served me told me that they'd sold out yesterday but had another batch delivered this morning so was able to get the extra ones. Edited May 15, 2011 by escortmad79
estephano (DE) Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 Though we have The Sun being sold at our airport and train station in Stuttgart it's a pity I can't use the coupons in Germany. If there's anyone out there who has an extra 30131 - PotC Jack's Boat and is willing to part with one, I'd be more than happy. It's the only set I'm interested in and will be willing to pay or swap with other Lego. Thanks a mill in advance if anyone will reach me a helping hand!
jangofett Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 Well I do have one but you will have to persuade me to part with it. thanks legojazzbricks
estephano (DE) Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 Well I do have one but you will have to persuade me to part with it. thanks legojazzbricks So when you have an extra 30131 - PotC Jack's Boat what are you willing to give it away for? Trade or Sell? evilBay is already full of them, but I'd still rather get it from a AFOL fellow on here
jangofett Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 Hi I am mostly after other potc figures if you have any. cheers jango
estephano (DE) Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 Hi I am mostly after other potc figures if you have any. cheers jango Nope, can't help. This would have been my very first POTC set.
Gregorovich Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 Well I do have one but you will have to persuade me to part with it. thanks legojazzbricks Legojazzbricks ? I seem to remember that that person had a "Taking a Break" badge for a while. I'm guessing they must've got banned, and made a new account... Anyway, I never managed to get Jack today ! I never got a chance to go into town today, so I don't even know if they were sold out or not. I'm just praying (but I highly doubt) that they'll still have some left when I go to there next.
Mr Benn Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 Well I can certainly see what's in it for TRU - it was PACKED this morning first thing with parents and all of their children clutrhing the little Jack Sparrow bag - it's an excellent advertisement for Lego for the POTC sets. TRU were restricting the number of coupons they'd honour (they did 2 for me), buyt WH Smith were basically of the opinion that if you buy a paper you get one kit per paper - they're making money on it I guess whilst TRU aren't. No problem in Watford today - went in this morning, bought a couple of copies of the fabulous News of the World (did anyone see the excellent 'story' starring Philip Schofield on the very next page?' and got a couple as soon as I bought them, ripped some vouchers out and traded them in at TRU, and then went back at the end of today (about 4pm) with the rest of my vouchers and they were happy to change them for more sets. Sweet :) Though this is going to be the only day I can do this, except maybe Friday (which is good, as the PQ set is the only other one I'd want :)

Edbrick Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 Hi there everyone. I like many others missed the sun offers- I am looking to purchase a captain jack poly bag and maybe a black pearl too. They are on eBay but I would rather buy off one of you fine fellows than the majority of scalpers on evilbay ;) Anyone help? Paypal gift waiting :) Ed
Dazmundo Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 I'm really annoyed with myself, went into an empty WHSmiths at about 1:30pm today and picked up my paper and polybag no problem, said to the guy that I was afraid they would have run out as they did with the Mirror last time but he informed me they had loads! It never occured to me that other people would be finding them so hard to get! I'm going to try going in again tomorrow and see if I can convince them to give me some of todays. Was in Scotland when the Mirror was doing their offer last time and there was a little Coop in the village we were staying in and they were happy to give you what ever sets they had, got 2 or 3 on a couple of days! D
Dunjohn Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 I'm fortunate in that my local Smyths (the toy shop chain it's done through in the Republic) is a good walk and a busy road-crossing away from the nearest newsagent. It's too much hassle for most people to go in for these so there's always plenty left, even days later. As opposed to Tesco (the other place it's being done through) which typically runs out before noon, thanks to the massive daily footfall and the availability of newspapers in-store.
Matthammer Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 Just had someone pickup the Sun for me on the way home. I'm not upwardly mobile at present but had been told elsewhere that as usual, there would be a mailaway. Pretty gutted to be honest. In essence though it doesnt really sound like many people who are mobile are having a great deal of luck. Sounds like the promo is mostly inaccessible. Off to shred the Sun and scrub my hands, then a quick lie down. I feel nauseated just knowing i have been in possession of that paper ;)
escortmad79 Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 Picked up another 8 of Jacks boat this morning using the vouchers I kept hold of yesterday, plus 3 of todays mini black pearl
Kettchy Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 I managed to get myself a Jack's Boat yesterday quite easily - just moseyed into Smiths around midday and they still had plenty of them left. Don't think I'll worry about chasing down the rest though - I find buying Lego embarrassing enough, let alone buying the sun to get some. Have to say, though, it's an excellent little set. Wonderful minifigure and I'm loving the new bottle piece. I do want to say to the folks going out and trying to get great handfuls of the sets: imagine the faces of the five or eight or ten children who won't get their free Lego. Why not? So you can sell them on bricklink? So you could add an extra handful of unusual pieces to your collection? Just because you can't stop yourself? I really hope the buzz you get is worth it.

Well said dude. There is a thin line between hoarders and scalpers

Hear hear... IMO people who claim Lego for the sole purpose of reselling it are not real Lego fans. A generalisation, but that's how I feel. (Says the guy who has two X-Wings for sale. ) Back to the subject: I did pick up two boats yesterday (one from Smiths, the other from Toys 'R Us) primarily because I wanted the bottle piece. And I also felt dirty having to buy the News of the World. The filthy habit continues tomorrow, Wednesday and Thursday.

Well I'd say just having two to sell doesn't really affect your integrity as an AFOL really. It's not like you're selling hundreds like I've read somewhere. In my opinion,t here's a difference between having one or two spares to sell on or trade and hording large quantities with the sole intention of selling them on for profit, with the side effect of denying children and other Lego fans from getting these sets. Anyway, I'm glad there's a way to send off for the sets now, even if it is a lot less useful than the Mirror's version.
Dazmundo Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 Went into WHSmiths this evening to try to get my set, was gutted when the assistant said they had run out of papers, but was then shocked when she said they had plenty of Lego left though! So I got todays set (and she gave me a spare from Sat, they didn't have any of yesterdays left) for absolutely nothing!! D
buddy Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 I managed to get a few of today's 30130 Mini Black Pearl from my local WHSmith's this morning. I've build one and I think it is a good looking set with some good pieces in it too. ~buddy~
