On his moc pages page david has created two differant sizes of Lego Polyhedrons one Truncated Icosahedron and one Dodecahedron :classic:

Yes, it's true -- I made MY OWN MOC (instead of trolling for other people's creations all the time). :laugh: Here is the link to my MOCpages post. Here is an easier-to-read version:

LEGO HERO FACTORY/ TECHNIC POLYHEDRONS

I was inspired by the Lego DODECAHEDRON made by Aanchir using Lego Digital Designer (LDD):

Hero Factory parts can be clipped together to form sphere-like objects called POLYHEDRONS. With REAL Lego pieces, I made my own Dodecahedron (which has 12 ea. Pentagons connected together).

The small, black-and-red Dodecahedron measures 6 inches (15 cm) in diameter. It uses 60 ea. 90617 “Hero Factory Arm / Leg with Ball Joint and Ball Socket” parts to form the 12 ea. Pentagons, and 30 ea. Grey 61053 “Technic, Axle and Pin Connector 2 x 5 with Two Ball Joint Sockets, Closed Sides” to connect them.

One can get bulk 90617 parts on Lego Pick-A-Brick by looking at the “Figure Parts, Ball W. Guides” category. PAB calls the 90617 part “Beam B 5M Ball/Cup ɸ10.2”.

The larger black-and-orange polyhedron is called a TRUNCATED ICOSAHEDRON which has 12 ea. Pentagons and 20 ea. Hexagons connected together. It measures 10.5 inches (27 cm) in diameter. The Truncated Icosahedron is commonly known as the old-style “Soccer Ball” pattern. I used 180 ea. Black 90617 Hero Factory parts (bought in bulk from PAB) to form the pentagons and hexagons, and connected them with 90 ea. orange 47296 “Technic, Axle and Pin Connector 2 x 5 with Two Ball Joint Sockets”. Although the sphere-like polyhedron is a bit “lumpy”, it is very strong and is larger than a basketball.

Jason Rossitto made other Lego polyhedrons using LDD. You can make your own!

The 5L black 90617 Hero Factory parts (which form the Pentagons and Hexagons) are the same length as the connecting 61053, 47296, and 90622 parts which can all be interchangeable in these polyhedrons. The red, dogbone-shaped 90622 Hero Factory parts shown below are rare and are not sold by Lego Pick-A-Brick, so I used the Technic Connectors instead.

Think of the various geometric shapes one could build using the Hero Factory parts.... :cry_happy:

Yeah, I think TLG have done very well with the new Hero Factory line. Loads of new interesting parts.
