xwingyoda Posted July 20, 2006 Posted July 20, 2006 I guess we French are lucky for not creating a hideous name for our favorite Dark Knight :-D He stayes as Batman hehe *yoda* Quote
snefroe Posted July 21, 2006 Posted July 21, 2006 They never translate these things in Belgium. that would be kinda problematic, because they'd have to translate it into French, Flemmish and German... the title alone would be filling up the poster :-P Quote
Jipay Posted July 21, 2006 Posted July 21, 2006 It wouldn't be the correct translation in french. It should be "homme chauve souris". And Superheroes usually keep their original names in french. They sometimes put the american name and then a translation, but today kids speak a lot more english than their parents so they just stick to the original version Quote
alex54 Posted July 21, 2006 Posted July 21, 2006 The french name is also used but like a secondary name. It is used with specific situation, and give batman some more mystery... It's hard to describe. When I discover that batman textualy meens what it meens in french, like the other superheroes like spiderman, i couldn't stop to think that it would be more ridiculous to speak about batman in english. because I will find stupid if they have their french name all the time! It's hard to describe too, and in english is harder! I don't know if other french people understand me on this forum... Quote
Jipay Posted July 21, 2006 Posted July 21, 2006 Yes, I do get that feeling too. If I was english, I would find the name "batman" so dumb... Quote
