After establishing EB's favorite Police Station with kind of a surprise winner in the end it's time we come to the next very important institution in a LEGO city/town: the Fire Station.

As with police stations we've had quite a share of fire stations over the years. Which one is your favorite? Vote here and share your thoughts about the set(s) :-)

Here are the candidates

(Click thumbs for bigger pictures)

1. 590 Engine Co. No. 9

1977 was the year the new minifig was introduced. Unlike with the police stations LEGO

gave us a classic American fire station with the brand new minifigs we grew to love until

today (note the rare US flag). This set's hard to find searching for fire stations because

it doesn't has "Fire" or "Station" in its name. LEGO would change that later on for most

of its fire fighter sets.

2. 374 Fire Station

One year later a revamped version of 590 in yellow came out. I don't have either set but

I guess it was kind of a European version since it includes a Legoland flag. The only fire

station of the minifig era that wasn't red.

You see this style of station in many MOCs today (i.e. main building on the side and/or first level),

rather than the style in following years with the main building in the middle.

3. 6382 Fire Station

In 1981 we got one of the most famous fire stations of the minifig area with its classic

station look of the 80s. Its charme made it one of the most sought after stations on the

second hand market.

4. 6385 Fire House-I

Four years later this modernized version arrived, minus one minifig, though. This is the

only set incorporating blue pieces (including the garage doors) which gave it a modern look.

5. 6389 Fire Control Center

After quite a long break in 1991, 9 years before the new millennium, LEGO brought this

kinda futuristic looking, very red station onto the market. It was part of the new "RSQ911"

subtheme.

6389-1-996850575.jpg

6. 6571 Flame Fighters

In 1994 we got another station without "Fire" or "Station" in its name. At this time towers

seemed to be a cool thing to include with stations of any kind (see 6398, the police station

poll winner).

6571-1-1003418713.jpg

7. 6554 Blaze Brigade

The year is 1997. We're in the middle of juniorization. And a perfect example were the

"Town Jr." sets. This one's no exception. Unlike 6636 Police Headquarters you didn't get

that many accessories, though.

6554-1-1003417253.jpg

8. 6478 Fire Station

Can you top juniorization? Yes, you can. But 2000 wasn't a great LEGO year in general anyway...

9. 7240 Fire Station

The latest fire station arrived in 2005 with the new "City" theme. It has the same "dark"

color scheme as its police station pendant 7237 which I like. It's a rather small station set,

though, since it marks the first time a fire station came without a truck which was sold

seperately.

570 Fire House/357 Fire Station with Vehicles, honorable mention

I didn't include it in the poll since it doesn't have minifigs. It came out in 1973 and set a

standard for all the stations to come.

Well, these are all I could find. Now lets vote and share our thoughts on these fine sets.

To quote Master Yoda again: Vote on! X-D

Ahh a nice new poll orchestrated by our mayor ;-)

I can't remember which one I had as a kid !! Like the police station one it will be a tough race I feel/hope hehe !!

I will definitly NOT vote for the only one I own (the crappy 7240 !!) I t had potential but failed to deliver a good set !!

Its fun because my choice kind of parallels the one in the police station: I voted for 6385 because its a little more modern than the great 6382 !!

Both sets are brilliant IMO; great proportion of the building, great vehicles and so on. My only grip would be the lack of helipad BUT siince its a small town firestation, no need for one anyway :-P

I had to go for 6385 because of its more modern touch (windows, bays on the front building) and the add on of that nifty little tower ;-)

*yoda*

I voted for the 6571. I hesitated with the 6389, but after some reflexions, I prefer the 6571: a good general look, some grass on the baseplate, a car, a truck with a lot of accessories, a copter, a girl! I like the heads of the firemen and their closes more modern, whith a better firestyle. It is the station that I regreted not to buy after seeing the so wonderfull :-X <insert that tiresome argument> fire station. So, when I saw the latest 7240, I decided to buy it, knowing that LEGO could do but also what they made with juniorisation. So I hope a more beautifull Firestation like the 6571.

The odl garage doors like with the 6571 are so cool, that I don't understand why TLC doesn't used them...another mystery...

I was waiting for this poll, and now I will wait for the result! :-D

I've voted for 6382. Its one of the first sets I remember having as a kid. I've built it, had it broken into by burgulars (so the police could come) and had a plane crash into it so many times. Its lovely building.

I voted vor 6571, but I have also the 7240. I like the doors of the fire station, because every real fire station need such doors and this is what fail by the 7240 station.

I search a long time the 6571 for the doors to build a real firestation. :-(

6389 was the one I had as a kid and which gets my vote because of that. I love the large car that comes with it. It's still my favorite official Lego car.

Well, my vote goes to 590, the overall look did it. It's just how I picture a classic fire station.

I like that 374 came in yellow but somehow a LEGO fire station has to be red, so 590 made. Both use doors that are pretty rare now, as are the round trans-blue round 1x1 bricks.

I didn't have a fire station as a kid but I've always liked 6382 which I finally found on ebay in a pretty good condition about 2 years ago. I also own 6385 which is not as charming as 6382, though.

6389 looks pretty cool and modern, maybe too modern for me. With 6571 I like the truck most.

6554 and 6478: :-|

7240 has the potential of a good fire station if it were bigger. Two sets would make a good station, I think.

Great poll, I voted 6382, my favorit Fire station. It is the only one i have, And i bought on Ebay a few years back. I suits the 6384 police station very well.

As a physician I would like to see a hospital poll, if it is not to "soft" for your guys. It is just if you need input to your next polls. Trains could allso be good poll-stuff.

It's very much appreciated, thank you. Good to know that polls are welcome :-)

I've neglected this a bit, I'm sorry.

It looks like 6382 is going to win this, but Brickster hasn't voted yet and I kinda can't close a City poll without the father of the polls' vote ;-)

So, Brickster, if you read this and find time, your vote would be appreciated :-)

Well, summer comes to an end (at least here) and I hereby declare

EB's favorite fire station:

6382 Fire Station

agx611zz153beor46.jpg

A true classic :-)

Voting's still possible but won't be taken into account anymore.

I voted for 6382 Fire Station, and I see a number of others voted the same. I like the one released after it as well, but for some reason I just like the more classic look of the older one.

  • 3 weeks later...

I voted for flame fighters. While it's an old fashioned set it still remains to have a cool edge to it. *y*

I have always loved the fire theme. My first ever minifig was a fireman (620)!

I guess the one we usually remember most fondly is the one from our childhood. I was very fortunate to have been bought a brand new 357 for Christmas 1975. That dates me! Unfortunately all the bricks I had back then were very well played with, worn, dented, many broken and lost. I don't even have the instructions any more (sniff!).

In more recent times my youngest brother had 6389, which I regard as the pinacle of Minifig Fire Station design (sleek modern buildings, fantastic vehicles) before plunging into the dark ages of junoirisation. I'm surprised it didn't do better in this poll. I was deeply jealous of my brother at the time, as I was deemed to be "too old for Lego", but some years later I purchased one of my very own MISB on bricklink... and what's more I still haven't built it!

Right that's it, this topic has got me all "fired" up! ;-) I'm going off to build it right now!

Nr 3 is my all time favorite fire station!

It looks the most realistic of them all.

The later ones all look a bit too futuristic for my taste.

  • 4 months later...

Well my favourite fire station isn't on there(never mind) so im just saying my favourite fire station is the newest one *y* *y*

  • 4 months later...

Without a doubt, 6382!! Although the baton could quite easily be passed onto 7945 which really tickles my fancy and its not in the survey!!

Great Choice! I love the older Fire Stations. Welcome to Eurobricks! I hope you are having a great time here. The reason 7845 doesn't appear in the poll is because the poll is older than the set. But, I agree with you that it is probably the better set!

Take care and again, welcome to Eurobricks!!

  • 3 years later...

Well I couldn't have voted in any other way - it had to be the 1981 set!

6385, it's the first big set I had when I was a kid (Which was sold at a car boot sale along with the rest of my childhood Lego) & one of the first sets I bought when I came out of my dark age
