I am totally new to LEGO modular buildings.

This is what I planned to do, make a street layout.

I missed out green groccer, cafe corner and market street.

I plan to make a street like this.

Grand emporium Fire Brigade Pet Shop ( future corner modular building)

Any ideas on how to make the street more lively like adding more minifigures to It or making roads with black LEGO tiles. I planned to get some LEGO minifigures and add to my town like baseball player, cheer leader and trafic police or mine from collectable minifigs.

I also gt a lot of city minifigures.

To make the street more lively, do what I did. In my opinion some of the modulars have a dark feel to them compared to the others so why not decorate the modulars with flowers.

Another thing is when you are having them next to road plates and there is a gap between the modular sidewalk and the actual road you could add some more stalls or little Kiosk.

Hope that helps default_classic.gif

Thanks for the tip.

Adding some minifgs doing stuff, maybe some flowers, perhaps adding a road next to it could all help. Also if you have the parts, making your own modular building might look cool too (Bit of warning: You will need a HUGE amount of parts. I've been working on one for about 2 weeks now, and I used up all of my tan bricks and I'm not quite done with the first floor even).

What may be better and cheaper than brick building streets, would be to get the street baseplates(if they're available in Singapore). Definitely check out 'The Yellow Brick's town layout.

First of all, try to be happy with anything you create.

It happens very often that people have something in mind

they've seen somewhere, but cannot work it out in bricks

satisfactually (is that a correct word?...)

Anyway, i always look around when strolling the streets

wherever i go, and see if any spotted detail could be done

in bricks. Furthermore, look around what is happening in

your street. Any street sellers, waste bins, parking lots,

anything. You only have to notice it.

And then build it.

Cheers!

I would suggest to simply look at the real life thing and model it after that.(trash on the side of the street,

a cop car giving someone a ticket,a hot dog stand, firefighters racing to put out a fire...etc etc)

You might have to look closely at the details though.

Hope this helps a bit

I would shy away from brick-built streets and extra base plates until you build up your collection a bit. Obviously the modulars are quite pricey as are the collectible minifigure series (they've gone from $2 each in series 1 to $3.50 for series 4 in the U.S. - not sure if similar price increases happened worldwide).

As another poster stated, see if you can't try and amass the individual bricks you need to build the modulars you missed from Bricklink for a fraction of the price to get it as a set. Now that the Pet Shop uses the same dark red roof bricks that were so hard to get for a while now, perhaps making a Cafe Corner from scratch will be feasible again. Also look at other sets in the City series if you want more figs - the Castle and Harry Potter lines are also a great place to get sets that have a lot of useful parts for making your own MOCs.

I find humour livens up the street. You make a tree, a dog and a shocked minifig expression and you hey presto comedy gold. Street lamps, a telephone box, newspaper stands and signs. Also why are the people on the street? Buskers, shoppers, workmen and children. Above all take your time and put your personality into it.
