Klaus-Dieter Posted July 7, 2011 Posted July 7, 2011 The Winter Post Office looks amazing! I really like the post office itself. Hopefully it will even have a nice and decent interior - even on the second floor (but after the Winter Village Bakery I regrettably highly doubt that). Instead of the bench I would have prefered a small statue or another stand to tell Christmas stuff. But ok. I would have prefered an up-to-date post van and not an oldtimer. But better an oldtimer than no post van. The only thing I dislike is its red color (why not yellow?!). The gazebo with the saxophone and banjo player is supposably the best part of the set. I can well imagine it fits very well next to the icy lake of the bakery set. I'm really looking forward to this set and hope that TLG will continue the Winter theme even after 2011! Klaus-Dieter
Follows Closely Posted July 7, 2011 Posted July 7, 2011 (edited) I definitely prefer the roof technique on the new post office. The mix of black and white slope bricks looks great. I might have to retrofit the previous two buildings to match. I was never fond of the Bakery's hodge-podge of slanted plates mixed with slope bricks for the dormers. Looks like a SNOT roof to me. Made with black log pieces and some white tiles attached to modified brick with studs on the side? Very nice looking set. Will defiantly add it to our Christmas collection. Vindicare Posted July 7, 2011 Posted July 7, 2011 The roof looks to be plates with some white 2x1 and 4x1 tiles on it.
Haltiamieli Posted July 7, 2011 Posted July 7, 2011 The only thing I dislike is its red color (why not yellow?!). Well, for starters red is the colour that is strongly associated with Christmas, and by extension with winter. The car is quite a big part of the colour-scheme of the whole set, yellow one would set quite a different mood. Not to mention that red is also used buy prominent real world postal offices, like the British one.
David Thomsen Posted July 8, 2011 Posted July 8, 2011 Instead of the bench I would have prefered a small statue or another stand to tell Christmas stuff. But ok. I don't want absolutely everything in these sets to be Christmas themed... I prefer the idea that this is an ordinary (if somewhat twee) village that happens to be set up during the Christmas season. Otherwise it's some kind of weird village where everything is permanently Christmas themed.
Bellicose Posted July 8, 2011 Posted July 8, 2011 (edited) what is the kid holding? Is it a whip? I'm guessing it's a harp, to go along with the banjo and saxophone. Edited July 8, 2011 by Bellicose
Sandy Posted July 8, 2011 Posted July 8, 2011 I'm guessing it's a harp, to go along with the banjo and saxophone. It's not a harp ( ), it's one of those old whip pieces. The kid also seems to have a bone on the other hand, so maybe the whip is supposed to be a leash for the dog?
Vindicare Posted July 8, 2011 Posted July 8, 2011 I'm guessing it's a harp, to go along with the banjo and saxophone. He's trying to soothe the savage beast with. music. While a pretty lame attempt, I think it is supposed to be a leash. It's no wonder though how his dog got away, the leash is bigger than the dog.
jonwil Posted July 9, 2011 Posted July 9, 2011 Here is a better pic of the post office from the other thread From there you can clearly see that the boy is holding a whip (or maybe its intended to represent a leash) plus a dog bone. The roof clearly is plates with tiles on them. The saxophone is brick built (and looks interesting at that) The banjo seems to be a lightsaber blade with a round road-sign then a sticker on the road sign.
lightningtiger Posted July 9, 2011 Posted July 9, 2011 Thanks 'jonwil' for a slightly better image, it will be interesting to see these brick-built instruments.....pity the sax components weren't in gold to look a bit more realistic because it looks like something from this....
David Thomsen Posted July 9, 2011 Posted July 9, 2011 It's not that much clearer, but I think this is as good as we're going to get from a printed catalogue. A lot of things are clearer, although the inside of the gazebo still baffles me and I can't make out the logo for the post office. I don't think the banjo has a lightsabre handle, it's just a bar with a roadsign attached to it. Now that I can see the dark green thing on top of the truck is a parcel and not some weird thing built on the truck itself I like it better.

I think the logo is an updated version of this logo (without the letter): So it looks like it's a horn. I think the inside of the gazebo is just empty. That way you could fit the musicians in the gazebo and put the singers of the toy shop in front of the gazebo. I just saw that the post office minifigure has skies on and that the woman is also from the post office. Didn't noticed that before. Edited July 9, 2011 by mcbbvb
lifeinplastic Posted July 9, 2011 Posted July 9, 2011 Thanks 'jonwil' for a slightly better image, it will be interesting to see these brick-built instruments.....pity the sax components weren't in gold to look a bit more realistic because it looks like something from this.... I agree with this comment. I was excited when I heard there were musicians in this set but the saxophone does look pretty awful. Annoying really as I'm sure if it was a licensed theme there would be a better mould and would probably be metallic and more realistic. Hopefully we'll get a better one in the collectible minifigures range. Other than that, the post office looks ok, though nothing I couldn't build myself by assembling existing parts together (i.e no real unique must-have parts) and I'm not sure who designs the minifigs but nothing original there either and what's with the green hood stuck on a blue/grey torso? These figures need a fashion stylist! I doubt I will bother buying this set - it's nice but will probably be too expensive and not within my Lego budget or worth going over budget for. The winter theme is a great concept though.
lightningtiger Posted July 9, 2011 Posted July 9, 2011 I think the design team in charge of the winter theme sets just use parts that currently available and by the looks of it the collectable minifigs must have a totally different design team and it appears they can make what ever accessories they like. Now I wonder what the interior will look like inside of the post office.
iElkie Posted July 9, 2011 Posted July 9, 2011 They could have included the (series 1) clown's horn / trumpet instead of the saxophone... I think that would have looked better. Because, I do agree, the saxophone looks a bit strange.
Widdi Posted July 10, 2011 Posted July 10, 2011 (edited) This one is another must-Buy to me. I think the Price would be somewhere between 50 and 70€. The side building looks like a Gazebo to me. mFg Widdi Edited July 10, 2011 by Widdi
slovakiasteph Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 As far as the gazebo goes... I don't think there's anything inside, just three walls with fan-shaped decoration on each. And a sprig of greenery on the side of the one wall we can see completely...
GRogall Posted July 23, 2011 Posted July 23, 2011 Just found some more info on Amazon but no picture 10222 Winter Village Post Office Continuing the winter scene series, the Winter Village Post Office is the perfect snow-covered setting. In the cozy post office, the worker is hard at work sorting all the mail into containers and sacks, while upstairs, there's just time for the postman to take a break before setting off in the traditional post car with all the letters and gifts. From the pavilion outside, musicians fill the air with music, while children take in the wintry atmosphere by the park bench before throwing snowballs at each other - the musicians had better get ready to duck! •Includes 7 minifigures: Female post office worker, male postman, female, 2 kids and 2 musicians •Dog also included •Post office features dark-green split roof with snow, fireplace, light brick, table, coffee mug, and lamppost and mailboxes outside •Also features evergreen tree and assorted minifigure accessories •820 pieces
prateek Posted July 23, 2011 Posted July 23, 2011 Looks good. The vehicle is nice, the scenery is nice, and the building is nice. What more can you ask for?
Klaus-Dieter Posted July 23, 2011 Posted July 23, 2011 Thank you very much for this information, grogall! This sounds like there is some furniture upstairs, too. But it even sounds as if there won't be much furniture (since they extra mention the table and a mug). Klaus-Dieter
GRogall Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 Here is the for the new set! Thanks to Legomilk  Nice addition to the Winter Village series! Someone please embed!
Aanchir Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 Here is the for the new set! Thanks to Legomilk  Nice addition to the Winter Village series! Someone please embed! It's abundantly clear that when somebody other than the set's designer demonstrates the set in these videos, it's not nearly as natural-feeling. Which is a shame, because I'm sure there are many things the designer could have told us. At the same time, the person demonstrating the set's features (I believe a different designer) did bring a lot of nice things to our attention-- for instance, the parka seems to be Bright Green rather than regular green, and the part used for the claw in the Toy Story "Trash Compactor Escape" set is at the core of the pavilion's hinged roof holding it together. Overall, I can't wait until this set gets a review here so we can get a closer, longer look at some of the features. At the same time, it's a real treat even getting this video so early.
Mr. Elijah Timms Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 Awesome, Grogall... have we heard pricing information yet?
GRogall Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 Awesome, Grogall... have we heard pricing information yet? The set will cost €59.99 and $59.99 if the dollar doesn't hit rock bottom by October 1st!
lightningtiger Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 The set will cost €59.99 and $59.99 if the dollar doesn't hit rock bottom by October 1st! Great a hundred bucks plus in Oz....sounds like import time for us Aussie's again ! Just viewed the YouTube clip, looks very impressive, still the only part I not happy with it is the saxophone ! But what's with the guy wearing a chunky scarf - Lego designers sometimes they look a little like the guys from 'The Big Bang Theory' ! Sorry, just my twisted view of the world.....Brick On !
