I'm not sure that's exactly how licensing issues work. Since Disney seems to actually be one of the film companies on Avengers, it would be a Disney deal, but that might not be true for any Marvel property. Just because Coke owns Sony pictures, I don't think a LEGO deal with a Sony Pictures film would say "under license from the Coca-Cola company" (but maybe, who really knows).

In any case, an Avengers theme sounds like a likely rumor, which is great news. That could spawn some really cool sets, minifigures, etc.

You know last year at ComicCon, a pirate called Jack popped up on a camel.....maybe Comiccon will hold an even bigger surprise this year !

One can only hope !

Sony Pictures isn't owned by Coke according to Wikipedia. It was at one point, but that was when it was called Columbia Pictures and had no association with Sony. I think licensing issues like this would probably depend on how much independence a company gives its subsidiaries. Some companies might want all merchandising deals for their subsidiaries to go through them, while others might allow their subsidiaries to maintain control of their own merchandising. I could be wrong, but whatever the case Disney would still have influence in Marvel's marketing decisions, even if not assuming direct control of that branch of business.

Disney might have talked to Lucas and found out what a gold mine Lego is  , with Indina Jones sets and of course, what's called.....oh, yeah - Star Wars !

Like I wrote in my last post.....ComicCon may have the answers we seek.

we also saw the Indiana Jones minifigure before any sets, you know the yellow background shot, but I already mentioned this and the Jack incident earlier in this post, but it went largely ignored

Good point. Hopefully we'll see Iron Man on a camel.

I was thinking Captain America on Jack's dingy. :snicker:

I wonder how they will do the hulk, minifig scale, brickbuilt, or new molds a la wampa style?

I dunno... that article is from late May, ComicCon is less than two months later... I doubt they'll even be anywhere near the prototype stage by that point.

Ah, but the movie is set for May 2012 release just like POTC was ! (isn't it ! )

Keep your eyes peeled at the Con!! And those designs for Thor, IM, Cap, and the Hulk are pretty cool, but I'd bet on a normal MF-sized Hulk, if I knew they def making him.

And I wouldn't put it past Lego to put some sort of teaser up before the end of the year if they are doing anything w/ the characters be it shadow designs or a logo of some sorts.

All we can do is hope the fine licensees see our pleas and wishes.

I don't know if anyone has seen this photo yet, but here is the official Marvel promo poster for The Avengers merchandizing line; it features the first look at Hawkeye, as well as new suits for Captain America and Iron Man:

This was released at the Licensing International Expo 2011. Imagine if these got made into our favorite ABS counterparts!!! I really hope LEGO attended that event!

I think it's going to only to last 1 to maybe 3 waves, but it could be a long-lasting theme if they make sets out of every single Marvel movies and comics, but it is impossble scince the copyright of the movies are owned by different companies, plus TLG woulden't make sets of Blade or Punisher, which is also Marvel movies/comics.

Oh! This could be a good licence, i'd collect the minifigs if this happened!

But i image lego people get invited to all of the events like this for diff movies that warrants toys. now that MARVEL is owned by DISNEY and lego has the disney licence it might be easier for them to make a new deal if the relationship has been good so far.

Its not Lego, but I heard that some Disney stores will be selling some Marvel Minimates - I forget which characters, but it could be a good omen. I don't think Minimates has the fan base of Lego, but I see it as a good sign.

There have also been exclusive Minimates 4-packs for Disney stores.

I am not sure if Lego would want to get involved with the Avengers, but personally I'd be very excited if they did!

That poster is awesome! Thanks tin7!

How is that a good sign if it is Minimates and not Lego who has the license? :cry_sad:

Well the more we talk about it, the more chances are we might get our wish.

Disney have someone who has joined EB over in the Cars2 topic, so a poke in this direction might show Disney they would be on a HUGE winner - who wouldn't want Iron Man joining Spiderman and Batman eh ?
