June 12, 201113 yr I thought that Disney bought Marvel recently and owns it completely. So any new licensing will ultimately be a Disney/Lego deal. I'm not sure that's exactly how licensing issues work. Since Disney seems to actually be one of the film companies on Avengers, it would be a Disney deal, but that might not be true for any Marvel property. Just because Coke owns Sony pictures, I don't think a LEGO deal with a Sony Pictures film would say "under license from the Coca-Cola company" (but maybe, who really knows). In any case, an Avengers theme sounds like a likely rumor, which is great news. That could spawn some really cool sets, minifigures, etc.
June 12, 201113 yr You know last year at ComicCon, a pirate called Jack popped up on a camel.....maybe Comiccon will hold an even bigger surprise this year ! One can only hope !

It was at one point, but that was when it was called Columbia Pictures and had no association with Sony. I think licensing issues like this would probably depend on how much independence a company gives its subsidiaries. Some companies might want all merchandising deals for their subsidiaries to go through them, while others might allow their subsidiaries to maintain control of their own merchandising. I could be wrong, but whatever the case Disney would still have influence in Marvel's marketing decisions, even if not assuming direct control of that branch of business.
June 12, 201113 yr Disney might have talked to Lucas and found out what a gold mine Lego is , with Indina Jones sets and of course, what's called.....oh, yeah - Star Wars ! Like I wrote in my last post.....ComicCon may have the answers we seek.

June 12, 201113 yr You know last year at ComicCon, a pirate called Jack popped up on a camel.....maybe Comiccon will hold an even bigger surprise this year ! Good point. Hopefully we'll see Iron Man on a camel.
June 12, 201113 yr Good point. Hopefully we'll see Iron Man on a camel. I was thinking Captain America on Jack's dingy.
June 12, 201113 yr I wonder how they will do the hulk, minifig scale, brickbuilt, or new molds a la wampa style?
June 12, 201113 yr About 6 months back i made some Avenger Figs using Ldraw heres the link http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=50554&st=0&p=896466&fromsearch=1entry896466
June 12, 201113 yr I was thinking Captain America on Jack's dingy. NO, Hulk smash !.....a few battle droids !

Like I wrote in my last post.....ComicCon may have the answers we seek. I dunno... that article is from late May, ComicCon is less than two months later... I doubt they'll even be anywhere near the prototype stage by that point.
June 13, 201113 yr I dunno... that article is from late May, ComicCon is less than two months later... I doubt they'll even be anywhere near the prototype stage by that point. Ah, but the movie is set for May 2012 release just like POTC was ! (isn't it ! )
June 14, 201113 yr Keep your eyes peeled at the Con!! And those designs for Thor, IM, Cap, and the Hulk are pretty cool, but I'd bet on a normal MF-sized Hulk, if I knew they def making him. And I wouldn't put it past Lego to put some sort of teaser up before the end of the year if they are doing anything w/ the characters be it shadow designs or a logo of some sorts. All we can do is hope the fine licensees see our pleas and wishes.
June 15, 201113 yr Author I don't know if anyone has seen this photo yet, but here is the official Marvel promo poster for The Avengers merchandizing line; it features the first look at Hawkeye, as well as new suits for Captain America and Iron Man: This was released at the Licensing International Expo 2011. Imagine if these got made into our favorite ABS counterparts!!! I really hope LEGO attended that event! ~tin7_creations
June 23, 201113 yr I think it's going to only to last 1 to maybe 3 waves, but it could be a long-lasting theme if they make sets out of every single Marvel movies and comics, but it is impossble scince the copyright of the movies are owned by different companies, plus TLG woulden't make sets of Blade or Punisher, which is also Marvel movies/comics. June 23, 201113 yr Oh! This could be a good licence, i'd collect the minifigs if this happened! But i image lego people get invited to all of the events like this for diff movies that warrants toys. now that MARVEL is owned by DISNEY and lego has the disney licence it might be easier for them to make a new deal if the relationship has been good so far.
June 23, 201113 yr Its not Lego, but I heard that some Disney stores will be selling some Marvel Minimates - I forget which characters, but it could be a good omen. I don't think Minimates has the fan base of Lego, but I see it as a good sign.
June 23, 201113 yr There have also been exclusive Minimates 4-packs for Disney stores. I am not sure if Lego would want to get involved with the Avengers, but personally I'd be very excited if they did!
June 23, 201113 yr That poster is awesome! Thanks tin7! Its not Lego, but I heard that some Disney stores will be selling some Marvel Minimates - I forget which characters, but it could be a good omen. I don't think Minimates has the fan base of Lego, but I see it as a good sign. How is that a good sign if it is Minimates and not Lego who has the license? Edited June 23, 201113 yr by Oky Wan Kenobi
June 23, 201113 yr Lego Thor and Hulk? I think so! I would love to see the Avengers as a new them. ~Bayonet
June 23, 201113 yr Well the more we talk about it, the more chances are we might get our wish. Disney have someone who has joined EB over in the Cars2 topic, so a poke in this direction might show Disney they would be on a HUGE winner - who wouldn't want Iron Man joining Spiderman and Batman eh ?
June 24, 201113 yr Please let this be reality. It'd make up a bit for having Starcraft and World of Warcraft go to Megablocks... :(
