Posted June 4, 201113 yr Anyone got any info on when the forthcoming Lego store will be opening up in Liverpool? Anyone know if they're planning anymore in the UK in the near future? Still waiting for one to open north of the border!
June 5, 201113 yr According to jobsatlego.com they're looking for an assistant store manager to assist in the preparation, opening and then management of the store, the start date for the post is the end of July 2011... So it'll be opening sometime after that... Your post was the first I've heard of a Liverpool store and now I can't wait, I've had to make do with the one at the Legoland Discovery Centre at the Trafford Centre which isn't a real store and is pretty limited in the PAB wall and the BAM selection! June 5, 201113 yr Just on the comment of having one north of the border, I'd love to see this too. I can rarely justify trips down south but I do find myself in Glasgow/Edinburgh on a semi-frequent basis. However, with a Liverpool store, I am looking forward to this, I find myself in the area every so often, so an added distraction is more than welcome
June 5, 201113 yr according to Brickset it'll likely be opening in September. This is fantastic News. It's going to be in the newish Liverpool One development down at the bottom of the city centre. So it's in a prime location. Can't wait. Woohoo! And if successful it will likely lead to slow progression throughout the uk. I was worried after the Birmingham store closed but the Cardiff store and now this is very heartening. Edited June 5, 201113 yr by Brickenhead-town-dweller
June 6, 201113 yr according to Brickset it'll likely be opening in September. I look forward to seeing its first shop window display with all the vehicles propped up on Lego bricks after the wheels have been knicked! But seriously, its good to see that Lego in the UK is looking to open stores north of the Watford Gap. The furthest north existing store currently is Milton Keynes- and that is little more than an offshoot of London. Cardiff is the nearest one to me, but I find it odd that there is no store in Bristol or convenient to the Cotswolds, where I live, which is probably one of the wealthiest parts of the country (yours truly excepted)- Lego ownership is particularly high amongst middle class consumers (would have to be given the cost of the stuff).
June 7, 201113 yr I am really excited about this. I am due to go to London in August, and I was planning a mass raid on the stores down there, but instead, I may just get a PAB cup or two, and then pop along to Liverpool when it opens. It's great news to have a northern Lego store...the others were far too far away, and S@H isn't always practical.
June 7, 201113 yr I look forward to seeing its first shop window display with all the vehicles propped up on Lego bricks after the wheels have been knicked! ... So much easier to replace Lego wheels though! Seriously this is great news for us in the North West. I have not being shopping in Liverpool for years, even though it is closer to me than going into Manchester. I am really looking forward to the opening, and seeing what else Liverpool One has to offer.
June 7, 201113 yr This is brilliant! Finally a proper LEGO store for us in the North! I'll certainly be a regular there when I'm back living in Liverpool! Edited June 7, 201113 yr by ADHO15
August 18, 201113 yr According to the Brickset forum the Liverpool Lego store was due to open today (although the grand opening is a few weeks off yet) I was there yesterday and it did look nearly ready... Edited August 18, 201113 yr by Rudders
August 19, 201113 yr Is that the total size of the shop unit? Or does it widen out? Just trying to get a feel for the size of the shop, and whether it will be worth a visit! (the manchester LDC is always a crushing disappointment...)
August 19, 201113 yr Is that the total size of the shop unit? Or does it widen out? That's the total width but it does go back quite a long way... According to the press release it's 3933 sq ft if that helps
August 19, 201113 yr Sorry to double post but here's a picture from today my work colleague sent me...
August 19, 201113 yr From LEGO.com "Liverpool, UKLEGO STORE GRAND OPENING EVENT 9th - 11th September The LEGO Store in Liverpool is celebrating its opening with a 3 day Grand Opening event and is looking for your help to build the biggest LEGO display inspired by your favourite Liverpool landmarks! In addition everyone who attends can enter our raffle and guess the number of bricks in the giant display for the chance to win an exclusive LEGO set! Plus the first 300 customers to shop for £20 on Friday will receive a LEGO City Police Motorcycle and the first to spend £20 on Saturday will receive a 'limited edition' LEGO minifigure t-shirt with purchase exclusively designed for the opening days. The first 300 customers to shop for £20 on Sunday will receive a unique and exclusive set of minifigures."
August 19, 201113 yr "a unique and exclusive set of minifigures." They wouldn't have made the Beatles would they??? D
August 20, 201113 yr Well that'd be cheap to produce. Four suited minifigs with Harry Potter hair. That would be cool, but more likely to be a standard figure with 'liverpool lego store' printed on the torso... :P Is it operating under normal opening hours despite being not 'officially opened' do we know? May pay a visit and see what it's like.
August 20, 201113 yr I went today and was quite impressed having only been to the Manchester LDC before... :P The PAB wall is only basic bricks but a wide range of colours. They had build 3 figs for £3.50 including pieces from series 1 figures. The staff were all very friendly and there was quite a buzz about the place. The build a fig seemed most popular so hopefully they will expand on that, as the area was quite cramped and made it difficult to sift through for unique pieces! Good fun though. Spent about an hour just looking round!
August 23, 201113 yr Just my luck, I was in Liverpool the day before it opened... It was so very nearly ready as well, and the nice people in the Liverpool One customer services told us it might even open that afternoon if we were lucky. But it didn't. My dad, however, has very kindly said we might be able to go back next week, which is good. It's nice when people remember that the North exists! I was hoping that there'd be a build-a-fig bin, I shall have a bit of fun with that, I think... £3.50 sounds decent, I think, especially if there are good pieces to be found.
September 11, 201113 yr That would be cool, but more likely to be a standard figure with 'liverpool lego store' printed on the torso... :P Hi. Sorry to jump on an old thread, but that is exactly what the minifigs were. They are very 'cheap' in that they are three of the Beatles (Paul, John and a ginger one who is supposed to be George I think) in a plain black business suit with no back printing to say Liverpool 2011 or anything. They could have come out of any set and the only indication is a card insert. Very lame compared to other exclusives.
September 12, 201113 yr I saw a pic of them on Flickr, by tiberium_blue - I'll deeplink it - but how very predictable to leave out Ringo... The card insert is pretty lame, too. I never knew that there was a Beatle with a mohawk. Edited September 12, 201113 yr by L@go
September 12, 201113 yr Blond, redhead? They could be anyone. The Lennon one with square glasses could too. Very poor items. A figure with the word Liverpool and the city skyline on a plain torso would have been better. Now people have a bizarre set of three businessmen with a band in silhouette behind them. Lame. Leaving Ringo out is probably what Ringo wants. He's the one who's shunned the Beatles limelight. Harrison and Lennon aren't around to havea say and McCartney is a greedy fame whore who would sell his own family to line his pockets and grab headlines. Hateful little man. September 12, 201113 yr Well that'd be cheap to produce. Four suited minifigs with Harry Potter hair. Haha, pretty much bang on! Though no-where does it say 'The Beatles', presumably because that would require a massive amount of royalties. Maybe its The Rutles? :P Is this suit just this http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemIn.asp?P=973pb322c01&in=M ??
September 12, 201113 yr Maybe its The Rutles? :P Haha! In that case, I can't really tell whether it's Nasty, Stig, Dirk or Barry that they've omitted...
