SirScottLego Posted July 28, 2006 Posted July 28, 2006 Disclaimer: Mister_Phes and the Community, I've been wondering about a sub-thread in the Library of Honduras which would be the home to "Inspriatons", I already love the Set Reviews, Catalogs, Post Records, Box Art and Catalogs as resources but I often wonder what people have seen across the web non-lego that inspires them. Maybe this thread might be a start. My Pirate Lego Building life has very much been inspired by "Pirates of the Spanish Main", the History Channel website, and Ages of Empires III to start off with. What links outside lego give you inspiration for MOC's and stories? Quote
El Bucanero Posted July 28, 2006 Posted July 28, 2006 Well, lets say Disney inspired me :-) As a lil kid I loved the movie Peter Pan, not because of the flying guy, but captain hook and his ship!! After I saw POTC 1, I wanted a ship from the movie, I started thinking what, dauntless was too big, the Pearl was unclear, so I was going for the Interceptor, well my current frigate was supposed to be this, it came out a bit different *wacko* basicly I am inspired by pirate movies, and stories. Later I started a love with old sailing ships, the main reason that my ''Interceptor'' came out like it is now. Computer games also inspired me, like Pirates of the Caribbean(actually sea dogs II, Disney bought it over) or Empire Earth II. Arrr Mr Tiber Quote

I don't care what the critics say, Cutthroat Island was an awesome movie! Quote

oo7 Posted July 28, 2006 Posted July 28, 2006 I love the pirate line but it is not because of the pirates, it is because of the Imperials, they not only can be used in the Caribbean but in American Revolution scenes! Maybe it's because pirates are so clich Quote

That was the first Pirate movie I ever saw and the one I liked the most as I haven't really thought much on the other film versions of Treasure Island. They just didn't seem as good to me. Maybe that's because Disney's version was aimed more towards children. I've got the sequel as well but haven't got round to watching it. Quote

TI is definitely the pinicle inspiration of my pirateness Quote
ghoulrealm Posted July 29, 2006 Posted July 29, 2006 for me it's almost entirely the pysical archetecture and visual astetics of wooden sailing vessels that appeal to me. It's not the story, unless it has some extremely outlandish paranormal and mytical story behind it. Here are a few movies and shows that have inspired me, in addition to all the movies allready mentioned; Goonies, Moby Dick, Baron Munchausen, Popeye (when the setting is a wooden ship,) scoobydoo(when they investagate ghost ships), Time Bandits, 20,000 leagues under the sea, and 4 or 5 Sinbad the sailor movies. The cartoons were an ifluence when I was younger but I wouldn't use them as a template for mocs or anything. I was really disappointed that the movie Ghost Ship had a 'modern' cruise ship instead of a wooden vessel. Btw I also really love Cutthroat Island as well. Quote
SirScottLego Posted July 29, 2006 Author Posted July 29, 2006 Anybody find value in the cartoon game Monkey Island? I also thought found this museum site in England for the HMS Victory with good information... What about forts and towns? Any resources? Quote

It was proven a few years ago that the author wasn't defoe there are soooo many copies, and reprints, and fake copies, and stolen copies of that book that it would be imposible not to find a new version by defoe, plus since no one owns defoe's rights (copyright gone long ago) and there is no sort of estate to protect his name, i could right a book and claim it is by him! lol. his name sells the book better then by captain johnson (the real author, but probably a psydonym,,,) What really ticks me off is when i pick up a "new" book on pirates and i realize it is stollen strait from this book, they take a couple pirates stories from it, rearange it and reprint it. devios bastards! NatedogMSU Posted January 20, 2007 Posted January 20, 2007 Well i pretty much am influenced by all of the stuff mentioned, I'm a gamer, movie lover, and have a vast pirate book collection. on top of that I am a naval historian working on a masters that concentrates on the naval presence on the american great lakes durring 1750-1817... on top of that i live in Erie, Pa, we have the flagship Niagara, commadore Oliver Hazard Perry's second ship and eventual flagship durring the battle of lake erie (the first time an entire british fleet is defeated and captured) so growing up, they rebuilt the ship and local lore about perry and the niagara and the battle is huge here.... we have a nice little museam and all so its pretty cool and it has really fostered my love for naval history. Lego Pirate fostered my interest in piracy (my plans for my PHD dissertation is on piracy... just have to find a good school to do it at)oh... and i am a vitim of an overactive imagination. where are u getting that degree from ive been looking for something like that but on in general maritime Quote
