Alopex Posted June 7, 2011 Posted June 7, 2011 6811 Pulsar Charger and 6833 Beacon Tracer Pulsar Charger / Micro Bike Number: 6811 Theme: M-Tron Release: 1990 Pieces: 25 Figures: 1 Error 45619! Error! Error! The engine blew up! Interesting pieces: Nothing very special, just some M-Tron prints and some neon-green pieces. The Build: Took me a long time... ... About 2 minutes Done! Its a simple but pleasant build. The complete set: Conclusion I think this set is brilliant for a small set, has a sturdy design, and some nice pieces. Its missing magnets, wich makes it a little bit less clever and playable than most M-Tron sets but I guess you can still use it for lots of things. The figure is nice, and since you get exactly the same one in every set you can build a huge army! Design: 8/10 Nice little design, nothing special, but it looks good and is quite sturdy. Parts: 8/10 Its got a nice printed front piece wich is good for lots of things, and neon-green parts are always useful... Minifig: 9/10 I just love the M-Tron fig! Playability: 7/10 Its missing the Magnets... Price: ??? I have no idea! Overall: 32/40 Its a good little set, nothing special. Every M-Tron collector (and everyone else) should have one! Beacon Tracer / Inspection Buggy Number: 6833 Theme: M-Tron Release: 1990 Pieces: 38 Figures: 1 Pieces: Interesting pieces: The neon-green windscreens print is unique to this set. The Build: And it's ready! Like the previous set, the build is rather simple and quick. The completed set: Conclusion: This is a pretty cool set with an unique printed piece, reasonable playability and a nice look. Design: 8/10 It's sturdy, functional, and looks nice Minifig: 9/10 Pieces 9/10 Unique piece, and some nice M-Tron pieces. Playabillity: 8/10 Still no magnets... But you can roll it around and it's got an openable cockpit. Price: ??? Overall: 34/40 6877 Vector Detector and 6896 Celestial Forager Vector Detector / Search Craft Number: 6877 Theme: M-Tron Released: 1990 Pieces: 62 Minifigs: 1 Pieces: Interesting pieces: Some neon-green pieces, M-Tron prints, and... ...Two magnets! The Build: Finished! It takes a bit longer than the previous sets, but it's still rather simple. The completed set: Open the safe to find the Gems! The Conclusion: This is a cool set. It looks brilliant has got a sturdy structure and has got nice pieces. This is the smallest set where you can get a safe and magnets, so It's a useful set! Parts: 8/10 Nothing to special, but it's got some nice pieces. Design: 8/10 Nothing really amazing, but M-Tron sets are generally well designed. Minifig: 9/10 I still love it! Playability: 9/10 MAGNETS!! Price: ??? Overall: 35/40 Celestial Forager / Astro Wrecker Number: 6896 Theme: M-Tron Release: 1990 Pieces: 87 Minifigs: 1 Pieces: Interesting pieces: The normal M-Tron prints and neon-green pieces, plus magnets and controls. The Build: This build was far more complicated than the previous three, but still didn't take very long. Functions: It bends in the middle, and the safe lifting mechanism works with magnets. Conclusion Of these 4 sets, this one is my favourite. It's got an amazing design, and cool function. I really recommend this set to everyone! Parts: 9/10 Lots of nice parts, including the wheels, controls and magnets. Design: 9.5/10 I find this set to be very well designed, the middle section especially. Minifig: 8/10 Although the figure is nice, it would be nice if this set had two of them... Playability: 10/10 Amazing! It has lot of functions, wich are all easy to use. Overall: 36.5/40 The happy family Astronaut group shot: This is my first review, hope you like it! Quote
Blackknight112 Posted June 7, 2011 Posted June 7, 2011 Thanks for all those reviews. I must say I like the last set the most. And I just love all the neon-green. Quote
Siegfried Posted June 13, 2011 Posted June 13, 2011 Wow, nice review! It's hard to do a good review of some of these smaller sets, but you've covered it well. The photos of the canopies look great! Quote
fff Posted June 13, 2011 Posted June 13, 2011 Great and enjoyable reviews, we all love MTrons :D Quote
L-space Posted June 13, 2011 Posted June 13, 2011 Thanks for the review. I feel sorry now to have missed out on the M-tron line. Quote
22kane Posted June 13, 2011 Posted June 13, 2011 I found this to be quite ironic as I just discovered my M-Tron collection in my parents attic last night. Since the instructions are long gone this will be very helpful. Thanks for the review!! Quote
Masked Builder Posted June 13, 2011 Posted June 13, 2011 I got some Lego off my neighbor recently and I was quite surprisedto see the whole M-Tron line in there! I've built the two larger ships, and now I just need to build some of the smaller ones you've reviewed. I like what you did with the reviews, since these are small sets I think you did a great job! Aeturnus Posted June 13, 2011 Posted June 13, 2011 Nice review..I really like the old space sets.. M Tron , Blacktron 1 , classic space , futuron , space police.. I don't know what it is but i still think those old space series are much cooler than any space series lego has released in the past 10 years. :D Quote
lightningtiger Posted June 13, 2011 Posted June 13, 2011 Thanks 'Alopex' for this very large and in-depth review of these four M-tron sets....now I see by you saying magnets....sorry M-Tron was in my dark times.....dam, they look COOL ! Can't help but feel the first one is quite <insert that tiresome argument> or is it just me ! Keep on reviewing 'Alopex'! Quote
Notorious Guf Posted June 13, 2011 Posted June 13, 2011 I'm not a huge space fan these days, but as a kid these fascinated me. I think I had most of the M-Tron sets, plenty of the Blacktron ones. Space Police of a similar era were great as well as my favourite, Ice Planet 2002! Great review, thanks for bringing back some of those feelings of playing with these sets as a kid... Quote
Wout Posted June 13, 2011 Posted June 13, 2011 Very nice review. In that time I was more of City, castle and Pirates, but these are very nice models. The M:tron guys did some scientific things, so Blacktron baddies can rob them and they were hunted by Space police. That was the plot of the story I thought. Quote
brickmack Posted June 13, 2011 Posted June 13, 2011 Nice review. The last one is my favorite, but the space ship looks nice also. Nice background you used for the first 2 sets, looks like a nice spot to mine. M:Tron is awesome. Quote
Ogre Posted June 13, 2011 Posted June 13, 2011 Nice review. I never had a lot of M-Tron, just the first two sets in your review, but I always liked the look of them. Alas, I don't even have those two sets anymore, since I sold them off during my 'dark age'. Quote
XimenaPaulina Posted June 14, 2011 Posted June 14, 2011 Thanks for sharing this wonderful composite review Alopex! Reading through this brings back childhood memories as I happen to own most of these and I really like this classic space theme a lot, particularly the unique and interesting combination of trans-lime and red colors. The Beacon Tracer / Inspection Buggy is my most favorite among all the M:Tron vehicles. Quote
Cpt. Dan Posted June 14, 2011 Posted June 14, 2011 Thanks for the great review. IMHO I think this was the time period TLG had the best set designs in terms of playability because it took imagination to get the most out of these sets. They really do bring nostalgia! Quote
Plastic Nurak Posted June 14, 2011 Posted June 14, 2011 Reviewing old Space sets it's a job that has to be the practice here. We children of the Eighties will appreciate it very much . Great reviews . Quote
xray Posted June 14, 2011 Posted June 14, 2011 I really enjoyed seeing your reviews. I have multiples of most of the sets, including 6896, my favorite along with 6982 Particle Ioniser. I always thought of M-Tron as engineers and designers who built the gear for Blacktron & Space Police. I once built all the Blacktron vehicles in M-tron colors as well as designing them some more aggressive space craft. Great fun. Quote
Alopex Posted June 14, 2011 Author Posted June 14, 2011 (edited) Thanks for the comments, and thanks Siegfried for the frontpage! I also own all the other M-Tron sets, I might review them if I have some time. They're so M-Azing! Edit: Could a Mod please add a poll? I want to know wich set people like the most. Thank you. LEGO AFOL Posted June 15, 2011 Posted June 15, 2011 (edited) I like all of them. But blacktron attracts me more. Edited June 15, 2011 by LEGO AFOL Quote
Myko Posted June 16, 2011 Posted June 16, 2011 The Mega Core Magnetizer is my favorite set of all time, lovely to see some M-Tron reviews here! I agree the vehicle is the best of these four. Quote
snefroe Posted June 16, 2011 Posted June 16, 2011 great reviews! i liked the M-tron series when i was young, even though i didn't get these sets before the end of my dark age... Quote
Evilplatypus Posted June 20, 2011 Posted June 20, 2011 Thanks for the nice reviews! By pure coincidence I've been rebuilding all my old M-Tron this past weekend. The last model you reviewed turns out to be the only one I never had. Time to hit bricklink I think; looks like a truely wonderful model. All those magnets! It will trigger M-envy with the other smaller models. You said you have the other models, please do reviews for them too. I felt 14 again, and truly happy, when building them again and they really deserve a review. (Just have to hunt down 3 pieces that appear to have been filed incorrectly, for the rest my coffee table is full of big red vehicles). Quote
Legostein Posted June 20, 2011 Posted June 20, 2011 Hello! M:Tron was and still is one of my most favourite space themes. I grew up with those, and I loved the new trans neon colour. I especially liked the 6833 Beacon Tracer for its windscreen which is the only one printed with the logo. Cheers, ~ Christopher Quote
filospinato Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 Growing up, this line was my favorite due to the neon green pieces. I got some of the smaller ones for my birthdays and whatnot and it drove me to collect all of them. I still remember saving up for the Mega Core Magnetizer when I was 13 or so and buying it at the only store in town to carry it. It was $60, that's a lot for a kid. When I got back into LEGO, this line was the first thing I rebuilt, they're now all on display in my house. The inevitably missing pieces also led me to BrickLink, a resource non of us should be without. Thanks for the reviews, these sets still make me smile. Quote
1980-Something-Space-Guy Posted September 11, 2011 Posted September 11, 2011 M:Tron is arguably one of the best space themes ever. The color scheme was outstanding, and the designs were very good. I have always loved this line, although I only own one M:Tron set. Thanks for the reviews! Love all of them, even the small vehicles. Quote
