If the Canadians can have their own topic so can we.

Here we can talk about being British.

So to get the topic started has anyone notice how heavy the rain was a few days back

This topic is something to be proud of.

Also like other topic close to this one we can talk about set availability and where you by your Lego

As I can see your location is England, and you seem to want to talk about Britain, maybe it would be a good start not to slaughter the English language completely in the first post.

A vast improvement on your first version, but you have still spelt buy wrong!

We haven't had heavy rain really just light rain for long periods of time

Not much rain in Gloucestershire- actually I am probably the only person in the country who doesn't really want it as it plays havoc with my joints and besides, I have a wild jungle outside that I am supposed to be taming (God I hate gardening).

I'm not British, but live in England for 10 years, will that do?

I think the weather has been pretty good lately, a lot better than last year.

I hate it that everything is getting so expensive lately! Petrol is at £1.369/liter and rising, gas and electric will go up soon, as Johnny mentioned.

My car insurance will go up by 20% probably... Trains are too expensive and always run late

I could rant on for hours!

Well I can talk about being English, British not so much.

It's lovely weather here in Bradford well for now, bad rain (surprise) this afternoon .

It's very English this weather thin we've got going here .

Edit:Scrap that the heavens have just opened, by a LOT.

Petrol is at £1.369/liter

*Gasp* liter not litre well well .

Yeah, but surely you must be able to appreciate the beauty of the British countryside- it isn't flat!

You are right about the trains though- that is a legacy of decades of underinvestment by successive governments. Although there has been a hell of a lot of investment in the last 2 decades, our railways still need to improve. But heck- at least in a British train you don't have to sit on seats that are covered in green PVC!

Car insurance- don't get me started there. My previous car got written off by some ***ker who tried to steal it. He was so inept that he damaged 3 doors, broke a window and then the steering lock, but didn't know how to hot-wire it. He tried to do it through the fusebox then opened the bonnet to try to do it that way. It was an old Nissan Sunny and the locks could probably have been picked easily using a piece of wet string. So I am not looking forward to renewal time- as if an insurance company has to pay out once they seem to expect to recoup their money every time you renew. So I bought an old Ford Escort as an emergency replacement (surprisingly its actually a pretty good car)n and someone, probably the same person, prized open the rear door and did the same. Not noticing that it was fitted with an immobiliser which would have made it very difficult to hotwire, and a fitted radio cassette which would only be of use to another Ford owner. Luckily this time the only damage was to that one door so I didn't bother claiming. I do have to put up with a dent that he made with his knee when he bent the top of the door back, and it leaks where we couldn't get it to bend back enough to achieve an effective seal.

Bugger, spent so long typing this that I have cremated the pizza I was cooking.

@ Legoless: Sorry to hear about the car vandalism and attemps to steal your cars! It has happened to me a few times as well. I used to have a nice toyota supra, and one day someone slashed all 4 tyres, and keyed all panels. I claimed on my insurance, and they wanted me to proof it was vandalism... er what?! Why would I do that myself to my pride and joy? Anyway, I couldn't proof it as there was no CCTV, so I had to pay my £350 excess. GRR

@ Jedi master: I didn't apply for any olympic tickets. I'd rather spend that money on a nice HD tv and watch it at home. I found it funny that Boris Johnson missed out lol.

It's sunny this afternoon in Oxford, really nice :)

Where do people buy their lego from? It's cheapest on amazon at the moment, but I sometimes go to TRU on my way back from work to pick up a nice set.

Speaking of being proud to be British, our greatest treasure, Mr. Stephen Fry, has a few words to say on this subject...

I must say, when I saw this thread I hoped it wouldn't be Brits typically talking about Football and the Weather!

Just like our Canadian friends did, I'm sure that this topic can indeed be put to better use than to discuss Footie and the rain!

Please folks do try to keep mostly to Eurobricks-relevant topics, and not turn this place into a spam-fest! Show your British pride by making your thread a welcoming one.

Unfortunately for my bank balance I prefer the instant gratification of buying from TRU or the LEGO store, rather than waiting for an Amazon delivery despite the reduced price.

It would be great if this thread could become a valuable resource on LEGO sales, newspaper offers and the opening of new LEGO stores. :sweet:

...easy there...it's the Queen's language...and she's getting a bit old. Maybe I shouldn't write on this thread...Commonwealth doesn't quite count as British.

We finally had a thunder storm in the east midlands today default_excited.gif We haven't had a decent storm in ages.

The one thing I love about when it's been raining after a hot day is this. It may be weird but I love it.

I hope we have more thunder soon. default_snicker.gif

Indeed Mr. Fry puts it in an extroudanairy way on a purely british show QI!

Ah, I topic for being British eh? Lovely. Let's start with moaning about the EU, and then well touch on our neighbours France, and then have a good talk about the Premier League, have a moan about the weather and fuel prices and finish with violently slagging off our government!

So, who's going to the Olimpics? It's only a few thousand. I found this impressive. To buy tickets for the men's 100m final now, the cheapest ticket is £27k! That £2700 a minute! Brilliant.

Edit: Oh, please say there are no Sun or Mail readers here...

Great post there The crazy one, you're exactly right there about everyone starting to moan about typical British things and discuss the usual things, such as the government and the weather!

In regard to the Olympics, I was one of the many unlucky ones who miseed out on Olympic tickets  , including Boris Johnson. But at that price, I won't be buying any tickets, £27k is a massive price to pay.

And finally, I only buy the Sun when there is a Lego promotion with it and even then I don't read it.
