I've been having this problem more and more lately. Currently, I have a head stuck on a torso (put together brand new) water (both hot and otherwise), cold nor heat can help me with.

Did anyone ever find a good solution for a fix that does not cause scratches or other deformations to the head?

Pliers, but put some foam rubber (cut from craft sheets) in the jaws. It gives excellent grip and doesn't scratch.

I was reluctant to use pliers, but this worked. Thanks.

Yeah, so long as you have some padding in the jaws it helps grip the parts without allowing them to slip, but also stops scratching.
