stratguy23 Posted June 12, 2011 Posted June 12, 2011 So, I'm new here, I was a huge LEGO fan as a kid, and I have the Statue of Liberty set. Is it like super rare and expensive? I don't think I want to sell it because it was really fun to build as a kid, but I've seen them sell for like $1,000. Is that accurate? If this is the wrong forum or considered spam, I am sorry. Fugazi Posted June 12, 2011 Posted June 12, 2011 As you can find out on Bricklink, used Statue of Liberty sets apparently sell for more than $500. Quote
Modulex Guy Posted June 12, 2011 Posted June 12, 2011 Yes, the set is quite rare. I'd keep it if I were you (same as I would not sell mine). And yes, the 1000 average is accurate, some might go for less, new in box sets for quite a bit more. Quote
happymark Posted June 13, 2011 Posted June 13, 2011 well. if I were the Op. i might sell it then use the money to buy Pet Shop and maybe train stuff. that huge thing uses a lot of space too :P Yes, the set is quite rare. Follows Closely Posted June 14, 2011 Posted June 14, 2011 If it has enough sentimental value, keep it. Otherwise there are a lot of good set you could buy with $800 or so. I would build it again, then decide. If it where me I would sell it and contribute to a colege fund or something... Quote
panpowa Posted June 15, 2011 Posted June 15, 2011 As I'm one to keep my old sets I would suggest keeping it but like the others have said, the set itself would go for quite the pretty penny so perhaps you could reinvest that into some other lego sets! Quote
Creator Posted September 7, 2011 Posted September 7, 2011 I didn't want to start a new topic (although I think this topic should belong in the "Special LEGO Themes" section), but I was wondering what the opinions are regarding the Statue of Liberty set (ID 3450). Thus far, I have collected the Eiffel Tower (10181), the Taj Mahal (10189) as well as the Tower Bridge (10214) which were all fun and interesting to build. I'm looking into acquiring the Statue of Liberty set, but would really appreciate the opinion of those who own this rare set. Perhaps you also have a few photo's to share? Thanks! Quote
Aanchir Posted September 7, 2011 Posted September 7, 2011 I don't have the set together... unfortunately, many years ago during my childhood I scavenged so many sand green parts from it that it was easiest just to disassemble it entirely, and it hasn't been together since. However, I have to say I really enjoyed it. There's a review by another member here. Incidentally, the Statue of Liberty set is at 1:55 scale, and thus within the range of what is sometimes considered "minifig scale" (which is usually 1:60 at its smallest) Quote

I missed it in my search on this forum. Quote
ACWWgal2011 Posted September 7, 2011 Posted September 7, 2011 i heard about this set. MSRP was only a couple hundred dollars but is selling on average for 4-5 times more then that. However, I did find a couple on the ebay listings when checking brickset. both appear to be in EUC w/ no missing pieces: Current bid 510.00 w/ 11.75 hours left: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=120771558329+&item=120771558329&lgeo=1&vectorid=229466 And current bid 51.99 w/ 6 days, 11 hours left: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=320755446947+&item=320755446947&lgeo=1&vectorid=229466 Quote

Unfortunately, both sellers don't ship to Europe/Netherlands.. Is there anyone around here (preferably Europe) that has a (complete) set for sale? I have an Eiffel Tower (10181) set new in sealed box for trade. Quote

L@go Posted September 7, 2011 Posted September 7, 2011 I'm looking into acquiring the Statue of Liberty set, but would really appreciate the opinion of those who own this rare set. I waited patiently for quite long before diving in and buying one from an American seller on eBay. It cost me US$600 + shipping, but that doesn't seem that unreasonable if you look at the prices on eBay and BL these days... especially when you take into account that it was in immaculate condition, with no dust at all and all the bricks were like new. If you come across one that doesn't cost much more than the average eBay or BL price, and seems to come from a trustworthy seller - and you can afford it - I'd go for it. It's a fantastic, huge and imposing set, it looks great in that sand green colour, it's already a legendary set among collectors - not least because its hard-to-find status - and it will probably keep appreciating in value. I certainly don't regret buying mine, it sits on a shelf in my bedroom and puts a smile on my face every time I see it :) Quote
